The more I drink this, the more it tastes like cinnamon toothpaste or gum to me. I can’t even finish my cup. I’ve only been drinking this one way – as an iced latte. Maybe I’ll try it hot. Anyone want to trade?

Thank you Courtney for sending a bit of this to try! I really appreciate the tea package! I decided to try my first hot matcha (the last time it was gingerbread matcha in a bottle of shaken water). So I boiled some water, waited for it to cool a while (the temp is supposed to be low, around 180 degrees — this is green tea after all). I added a small spoonful of this beautiful green matcha to the bottom of a mug and poured the cooled water into the mug. Then I mixed it around with the spoon. No, I don’t have traditional matcha tools yet, but I try! I’m sure I will love matcha enough one day to buy some simple matcha tools. This resulted in a gorgeous green clear mug. I actually really like matcha. Not only does it seem like I’m drinking something healthy (really matcha seems to have every health benefit imaginable), but it’s tasty too. The flavor here is more like pumpkin pie spices than pumpkin, but it’s delicious none the less. I may have added a bit too much matcha, but I like it anyway. Next I’d really like to try some matcha with some milk. I hope I remember next time to dissolve the matcha with about two ounces of hot water first and then add the milk (Red Leaf’s instructions). Red Leaf has so many flavors of matcha, I can’t wait to try more of them!

This is so nice and spicy! It’s perfect for this horrendously cold day we’re currently having. It’s a cozy tea, the kind that reminds you of the comfort you get from a big family dinner. The reminiscing and laughter. I’m getting ginger, cloves, nutmeg and cinnamon. If I actually focus I can even taste the crust!
I made this one in my little porcelain matcha bowl with my bamboo whisk. I steamed up some milk to have it as a latte. I feel like this was the perfect way to have it. My husband even let me try it when he used it in a smoothie. It added a nice spice to his bland, diet shake. lol
I ordered this one in the “There’s Matcha in there?” flavour level. I think it’s perfect this way, but I love spice. This is one of the best pumpkin teas I have tried so far, though I don’t really catch a whole lot of pumpkin, more so the spices that so a long with it. I want to make a good, old fashioned Libby’s Pumpkin Pie now. Guess that gives me something to do on my next day off! Thank Red Leaf, you kinda rock!

You can buy it here!

Ok, I have to start by saying that I love Thanksgiving! That is because I love that you can get so many pumpkin things at this time of year. For one month I get to indulge on pumpkin flavored everything! Then I have 11 long months of waiting for companies to bring out the pumpkin again! And let me tell you, I overload myself so much on pumpkin that I’m ready for it to end. That only lasts about a month before I’m craving pumpkin things again. SO, that is why I just HAD To order the Pumpkin Pie Matcha from Red Leaf. I’m hoping that they’ll keep this flavor around and not just have it available in the fall.
I really wasn’t quite sure how I wanted to prepare this the first time. I opened this matcha and got a cloud full of heavenly pumpkin spices. I put it into a tin to keep it fresh but I doubt that it’ll stay there for very long. The small size fits perfect in the tin with a little wiggle room…enough to be able to get the measuring spoon in.
I decided to prepare this matcha as a latte with warm milk. I heated up 10oz of milk on the stove and then used my frother to create foam. I then added the matcha and whisked the latte….finishing off with another round with the frother. This matcha was very smooth. I think the milk really complimented it well and made it taste just like a pumpkin pie! This was so good that I don’t think I want to prepare it any other way. I think it needs the milk to take it to the next level. I did purchase mine with the white matcha as I didn’t really want to much of an earthy flavor in this matcha. I was very happy with it this was so I don’t think I’ll order it any other way.
Here is how I ordered my Pumpkin Pie Matcha from Red Leaf Tea:
Size: Small
Quality: White
Flavor: Delicate
Storage: Air tight refill flat pouch – would definitely recommend purchasing a tin for your matcha to keep it fresh. I did not order one this time since I already had a tin.

My first hot matcha in God knows how long. Summer just doesn’t lend itself to hot drinks, I’m more likely to just my matcha with cold water and blend vigoriously. But this one (found here: http://www.redleaftea.com/matcha-tea/pumpkin-pie-matcha.html) was just crying out to be made hot…so I’m taking it to work with me today (all I ever do anymore is work). Well after a day straight from hell, this tea was sorely needed. After yet another patient called in to yell at whoever was unfortunate enough to answer the phone (aka me), I decided to take a break. I found a quiet corner and curled up with Hunger Games and this beauty of tea.

It tastes exactly as advertised! I really did feel like I was drinking a hot cup of pumpkin pie…yum. So much yum. I’m not the biggest pumpkin pie fan, but it’s grown on me in recent years. But I am a huge fan of pumpkin lattes, at least I was, so this is definitely going to be mixed with soy milk next time. And cheesecake matcha. And french vanilla matcha. The possibilities are endless! This has made me eager for Thanksgiving and my signature pumpkin pound cake. I wonder how that would taste with a matcha icing…

Second attempt at making matcha. Thank you, Ninavampi for this sample! I think I preferred the amaretto flavor. I added a little milk to this one, which helped, but the spiciness in the pumpkin pie flavor seems to be taking center stage. It’s drinkable, just not something that I would ever prefer over a nice cup of strong, malty black tea. Maybe I’m not making it correctly, even though I looked up directions on making matcha. All of the lattes and things that everyone makes with matcha sound so good, but I think I prefer a simple cup of tea where I just pour hot water over some leaves. I think I am just not a lover of matcha, sigh.

-Dry blend is a powdery green matcha.
-Dry leaves smell strongly of cinnamon. Tea liquor aroma is of spicy pumpkin pie.
-Tea liquor is a thick dark green color with foam on top.
-Vegetal flavor with a strong spicy finish. Light pumpkin pie and clove aftertaste.
-Best with milk and sweetener.
-Fair tea. Very strong spicy flavor with just a hint of pumpkin.

QueenOfTarts

I agree! This matcha had too much spice and not enough pumpkin for me — I didn’t get any pumpkin pie flavor in it to be honest. I do like matcha, but find that I prefer the red base more than the green.

Josie Jade

Glad I’m not the only one, QueenOfTarts! I will have to try the other types of matcha. I’m sadly not loving the regular green matcha, but am curious if the black or red may appeal to me more. :)

It’s pumpkin season! When I opened the packet it smelled like a very spicy pumpkin pie – lots of cinnamon and clove, maybe a little pumpkin. I prepared it hot this morning, planning to add milk and turn it into the latte, but have been drinking it straight so far. I really like the level of spice and don’t want to mute it, and there’s zero bitterness to begin with. I spoiled myself with my experiments, so I have the royal matcha base – bright green, richly sweet.

I get more of the pumpkin in the taste than I did in the smell of the dry matcha – it’s a little tangy, a little sweet, a little earthy. The blend of flavor and green tea is a little strange this time: they’re both very good individually, but the whole is just the sum of those parts, no more. It’s a little like green chai, actually.

I got distracted and let this sit for awhile, so now it’s cold and stronger, so I’m adding a little milk. The creaminess is a nice addition – less like chai, more like pie! It would probably be really good with a little sweetener, but I didn’t think of it until just now – even with flavored matcha lattes, it still seems weird to sweeten green tea :P

Overall this is very good, I would definitely recommend, and you can buy for yourself here: http://www.redleaftea.com/matcha-tea/pumpkin-pie-matcha.html I got the delicate flavoring, which is fine for me, but if you really like pumpkin I’d go higher :)

Pumpkin pie! North americans love pumpkin pie. It is a staple in our traditions, but we know it originated in mexico. It instanly reminds us of fall, is comforting, warming, and spicy. It’s inviting, if you will.

That could explain why I went through my 60g bag over the course of four days. I brought it to my workplace, tried it hot, but mostly put it in my smoothies (Celebratory smoothies, the type you forget has protein powder in it). This is as close to a pumpkin spice flavor as you can get, minus the carbs. I have a feeling Red Leaf are secretly chemists or botanists. They make nifty products.

It could also be because the actual matcha is good. It goes along the intense pumpkin flavor really well and while delicate, brings something to it. It holds up next to my pricier matchas. I think I might try it in white matcha form (which is quite the novelty for me!) but I’m perfectly content with it being my base in this one. If you like pumpkin pie you will love this, it is not too crazy on the spices, the taste is genuine, and everybody will comment that it smells good.

It’s that time of the year. Pick it up online: http://www.redleaftea.com/matcha-tea/pumpkin-pie-matcha.html

I should try again pumpkin…as pumpkin first before trying any tea. I had a bad experience with several pumpkin soups (salted or sweetened) when I was a child and I wonder if I can surpass these experiences…It isn’t possible so many people like it and I don’t. This matcha tea has great ratings so…I may begin by matcha :)

Mélissa

Oh, I agree! Since I know you like very fine, fragrant teas you will surely enjoy this one (and many other matchas, without a doubt). I’m excited for you!

I had some excitement at my mailbox yesterday when I found my package from Red Leaf tea and I knew my two matcha selections had arrived: Boysenberry and Pumpkin Pie. Which one to try first? With a bit of fall in the air, I decided I was in the mood for Pumpkin Pie. I had high expectations for this one because Caramel, my first flavored matcha from Red Leaf, was so wonderful. Well, Pumpkin Pie was equally fabulous-in fact for my own personal taste, since I am a big pumpkin pie lover, Pumpkin Pie trumps, but you can‘t go wrong with either choice. I opened the packet and immediately knew I was going to like it, since the scent was delicious. So far, I have found I prefer chilled matcha to hot,but I haven‘t tried a latte yet. That might be good. This time, I mixed a teaspoon of the matcha with 2 oz hot water and whisked it until it had some froth. I then put it in a shaker with 15 oz unsweetened almond milk, a splash of cream, and some sweetener. Added a few ice cubes, and Wow, fantastic!! Pumpkin pie without so many calories. I am amazed at how well it captures the real thing. A fabulous frothy dessert. Just go to http://steepster.com/teas/red-leaf-tea/29698-pumpkin-pie-matcha?post=133233to order.

Well I was saving this one for more of a fall-like day but I seriously couldn’t resist not buying it any longer. And just my luck it went on sale right after I bought it :P And as always you can get this fabulous matcha here:

http://www.redleaftea.com/matcha-tea/pumpkin-pie-matcha.html

When I opened my little gold bag the smell of warm pumpkin pie hit me in the face! When I dumped it into my little tin all I could smell was cinnamon and clove. MM :] It’s very strong…
The flavor is also VERY strong. The spices in here are very, very strong. The main flavor I’m getting from this matcha is clove. The clove is the dominant flavor, by far. And I’m not sure how I feel about that :[ I use cloves to numb tooth aches so it just reminds me of tooth aches… I’m really happy I got the “delicate” flavoring on this one because I just don’t think I could handle any more of this.. I really wish there was a bit more cinnamon or something in this. Maybe next time I drink it I will add some cinnamon and a TINY bit of sweetener to round those edges.
I really wanted to like this one.. But I just can’t handle this much clove..
