From KaiMatcha

KaiMatcha Premium is a high quality, great tasting, ceremonial grade matcha green tea powder that is grown in the Uji, Kyoto region of Japan.

Our ceremonial matcha has a deep, vegetal taste, noble aroma, and a vibrant green color. It has a mouth watering sweetness (umami) that lingers with every sip. Absolutely no astringency or bitterness to worry about. KaiMatcha Premium makes for a perfect cup of thin (usucha) or thick (koicha) matcha tea.

KaiMatcha Premium has been taste tested against the finest ceremonial matchas available from Japan. In terms of taste, color, aroma, and mixability, KaiMatcha Premium compares to matcha’s that are close to double the price.

KaiMatcha Premium is truly a luxury matcha, but without the premium price tag.

Yay! I love this matcha.
Like… love.
I have tried a few other kinds of matcha before this and they had had a sharper more vegetal bite. This is much smoother.
I still like to make my matcha with cold milk but this has nice nuttiness and isn’t sharp. Eminently sippable and it got me through three days of filming on around 3 hours of sleep each night! That gets a serious A+.

ETA – thank you for the free sample, Kaimatcha! I love it :)

Ooo, lucky! Trying all this flavored matcha is making me want to try a really good quality plain matcha!

BlueKittyMeow

Trying all this plain matcha is making me want to try a really good flavored matcha! It’s too bad matcha is so freaking hard to package – I would be totally willing to swap a sample!

Babble

I would be happy to send you a sample of some flavored matcha if you could send me a sample of this. I usually double bag mine.

matcha, Matcha, MATCHA!

This is the good stuff. Just add water.
I bought it as a present for myself for my 41st birthday.
Not bitter tasting at all compared to other matchas I have tried.
A little dash goes a long way.
I bought it based on the reviews on steepster.

matcha, Matcha, MATCHA!

12/6 I still drink this about 3x a week as my second cup of tea in the morning. I keep my tin at work. The more I drink it the more it tastes like “butter” to me- sort of drinking melted butter when eating a great lobster dinner. It tastes like grass flavored butter!
It’s an amazing product. I drink it to counter-act any junk, sweet or greasy food that I eat.
So if I eat some potato chips, I wash it down with some hot matcha.

As for claims of any weight loss by drinking matcha, well, I walk 4 miles a day, kick box, zumba, do cardio and my weight remains the same at 174lbs consuming this product, but your results may be different.

7/11/2013 Update – I bought two more tins. I feel this is one of the best ceremonial Matchas to order on the internet. I make a cup when I first get into the office and makes me have energy and focused. If you have ADD / ADHD – I’d try this as an alternative to adderall. Makes me feel focused, relaxed, and “in” the present.

Today I mixed some Matcha with some loose Runa Guayusa tea and was heaven!

Simply brilliant flavors in this tea. Complex and whole, yet easy on the pallet.

I was ready to write off matcha tea all together after trying a few other brands, but then I learned the difference between the grades. KaiMatcha is ceremonial grade, and it makes a huge difference. I had been pinching pennies and thinking all matcha was created equal but that couldn’t be further from the truth.

I won’t pretend to be an expert, but basically it comes down to how the plant is grown and when it’s harvested. Ceremonial grade matcha only uses leaves from the most prime harvest, whereas cooking grade matcha uses leaves from the second and third harvest, and everything that wasn’t good enough to make it into the ceremonial grade.

That’s why a lot of people complain about bitterness when drinking matcha tea, it’s because they’ve only tried “the cheap stuff” and have yet to experience ceremonial grade matcha – the way it’s meant to be enjoyed.

I highly recommend giving KaiMatcha a try, even if you haven’t been too keen on matcha teas in the past. We will be featuring a more in-depth review at http://TeaPerspective.com soon and are looking forward to delving deeper into the world of matcha and everything it has to offer!

I was lucky enough to win 30g of this from the KaiMatcha contest—thanks so much! Couldn’t wait to try it.

Color-gorgeously green and fresh, vibrant and enticing.
Aroma-deep, rich, and soothing.

I mixed a little less than 1/2 tsp with hot (about 140 degree F) water, first whisking it with a small amount of the water with my bamboo whisk (which really does the job). Next time I will get the froth better, but this time it was pretty darn good. The color, when added to the water, is stunning and deep. It’s a forest I could get lost in.

And the taste…this is without a doubt the best pure matcha I’ve had. It’s thick, buttery, smooth, lush. No astringency or bitterness here—none. It’s fabulous…my only goals for next time are to achieve a really nice froth.

I can’t wait to have another cup—thank you again for your generosity!

I wish I had liked this more, given the reviews it had as I ordered it. Now, do not get me wrong it is a very tasty matcha indeed, but it is also not the best for my taste in this price range. I made it on two separate occasions to ensure my opinions.

This matcha is very smooth, buttery and not chalky at all in texture, and does not require re mixing. People who like their matcha more on the buttery side and less vegetal, will love this, it’s like Pure but if my taste buds are recalling correctly, this matcha has more depth in taste complexity than pure but less strength. It has a nice astringency to it, a little too astringent for matcha for me, but not at all bitter. I also don’t think it froths up well in comparison. My biggest complaint came in the after taste department, it’s astringent for matcha, and lacking of that wonderful lingering slight cocoa taste you can get with premium matchas.

I happened to buy an additional tin of this to send to my mother who has expressing interest in matcha tea! It will be interesting to see what she will think of it as it will be her first matcha ever.

Current winner for me is still Aiya, and my next purchase to try will be ocha! Love me some matcha :)

ooooh, interested to know how they compare!

Hey Steepster folks. It’s uh… been a while. A long while. I’ve still been drinking tea, but my obsession has dialed back a bit from where it was. Still haven’t forgotten about you tea.

So I ordered this matcha a couple Black Friday’s ago. Some awesome Steepster sent me a sample so I knew I was gonna like it, but I actually NEVER got around to even opening the canister. So it sat – unloved – for a couple years. I did end up pitching some of my older tea, but I couldn’t bring myself to throw this away. So, I finally broke the seal and incorporated this into my daily drinking routine, since I’m trying to get back to eating well and slimming down for upcoming wedding (yay!)

I’ll be honest – I’m way too lazy to break out the matcha bowl, whisk, and do that whole jazz. It’s just not for me. So what I’ve been doing is taking 1/3 tsp in my water bottle, mixing it with cold water, some ice cubes, and giving my water bottle a big shake. No mixer, no frother, no additives. Just matcha and water. It mixes decently enough and the taste is AMAZING. I wish all matcha were this palatable. There’s hardly any bitterness. It’s vegetable, but totally drinkable. Even though this matcha is probably WAY past it’s expiration date ;)

On a sad note, though, I don’t think this company is around anymore. Their website is still up, but support has not responded to my e-mails and their social media is pretty much dead. So, I don’t want to take my chances. So I’m on the hunt for another matcha I can drink regularly. Still, thanks KaiMatcha for your awesome tea. I probably should have bought more when you were still around :(

It pulled right up for me! Their website does look like a big infomercial, but that is the correct site. I have ordered from them twice now. Love their matcha. My kids asked for it for Christmas. I did notice a while back that they were sold out of tea for a really long time and had to wait for the new harvest to come in to start selling, but a few minutes ago it was going to let me order.

Babble

Their website still works, but support and social media were unresponsive so I figured they weren’t around anymore. Are you saying they’re still active? When’s the last time you ordered from them?

ashmanra

I haven’t ordered in awhile. The website looked active. I have never seen them on any social media so I wouldn’t know about that. And sometimes I have a wretched time getting companies in general to respond to emails. If in doubt, don’t, they say.

ashmanra

Hm, it says their phones are manned 24/7 but when I called I got a message that said to email them instead. When I tried that, I keep getting the verification box with the code to submit and I am typing it correctly but I still get another code to type in so I don’t know if my email is going or not. I will email them from my private account and see what happens.

Babble

Okay, thanks for looking into it. I’d like to think they are still active, but I don’t want to send my money into a black hole.

ashmanra

I emailed them last night and had a reply first thing this morning. They are presently out of stock but will email when they have matcha to sell again. So I wonder why theme site doesn’t make that clear? It should say OUT OF STOCK in huge letters. Granted, I didn’t actually click to order and try to pay. It is the best tasting matcha for the price I have tried, but they do tend to go out of stock for a very long time. I waited many months last time. I guess they are waiting for the new harvest, but it really should be made clear and should carry an estimated date of restocking. I apologize for not investigating them more quickly before saying their website as active!

ashmanra

I just went back to their website and “ordered” and when it got to the actual checkout page it said, “Oops! Sold out and currently out of stock! Will send an email when back in stock with 10% off for the inconvenience” or something like that. Exactly what happened last time I ordered but I did indeed later get an email and discount when it came back in stock. So I am glad that at some point it does tell you what is going on, but I still think it should be front page.

Babble

Ooh thanks for looking into it. I really appreciate it. I’m going to sign up on their website and get a 10% off coupon. Really wish they would monitor their support email though :(

Sipdown. Not sad to see it go, but the taste grew on me. Vegetal and greeny tasting with a little bit of sweetness at the end. Also never had as bitter a cup as the very first time I made this so that raised it up in my eyes.
