From DAVIDsTEA

Meet our newest obsession: the crème brulée. French for “burnt cream,” this rich and creamy dessert is famous for its silky custard base and crunchy toffee crust. Not only is it such a mouthwatering combination, it’s also inspired one of our favourite macaron flavours. This decadent tea combines all the vanilla-cream sweetness of a classic crème brulée – with a twist. Our secret? We added a pop of jasmine for a light floral touch. Satisfying, sophisticated and downright addictive, it’s the ultimate teatime indulgence.

Ingredients: Apple, jasmine tea, rosehip shells, pineapple (pineapple, su gar), sweet blackberry leaves, marigold flowers, natural and artificial flavouring.

Price per 50g: $8.98

The jasmine green tea base was such a smart move on DAVIDsTEA’s part. I think if a traditional Japanese or Chinese green tea was used, much like many of their other green tea blends, the creamy and buttery flavours would be competing with the grassy and vegetal notes of the tea. However, the jasmine and creaminess complement each other perfectly. The tea is not overly sweet, it combines beautifully with soy milk, it does not require sugar or sweetener, it does not oversteep easily… it’s everything I could ask for in a blend. This is one I would not hesitate to recommend to anyone; it’s absolutely wonderful in every way. Even the name is beautifully fitting.

A teapal sent me samples of the Malt Shop Collection, so I had a chance to try them all before placing my April Fools’ Day flash sale order.

This tea is an enigma to me. I’m not into floral teas (except for those with hibiscus in them). I don’t generally love DT’s flavored green tea blends. I’m not even a fan of crème brulées. This tea is delightful. I don’t love it straight, but, honestly, that’s no surprise since I sweeten most of my teas. With a few drops of stevia and a splash of dairy, however, it is such a tasty treat. I’m glad I don’t get much pineapple because that would’ve ruined it for me. The green tea base is smooth and light not bitter or astringent. It’s quite possibly my new favorite flavored green tea from DT, and that’s saying a lot because there aren’t many teas on that list.

I bought 150g during the flash sale, and I’m almost positive that I’ll buy more before it’s gone for good.

I was very skeptical of trying this tea as I am not a fan of jasmine, but this tea is pleasantly delicious. Tastes like caramel corn to me.

Michelle

Its funny cause I like this tea, but I don’t like caramel corn at all.

I think I overleafed the first infusion of this one – it was a little bit too heavy on the jasmine, but the second infusion was better. Just need to have a bit lighter hand with it, which is not necessarily a bad thing!

This was the tea I was most skeptical about from the new release. So I just got a skinny tin, and to my surprise it’s actually pretty good! I do get a slight hint of jasmine. The dry leaf smelled interesting, like something I can’t quite put my finger on. It definitely tastes better than it smells. I’m getting the desserty vibe from this tea. (I only say that cause I have never had creme brulee before, so I wouldn’t know) It’s also kinda fruity in the sense of the pineapple in it, but I also got a burnt tasting brown sugar taste. With the slight floral note. I really so like this tea, and I’ll have to get more. (Maybe I’ll redeem my points for it)

Popcorn! The dry leaf totally smells like popcorn ;)

Michelle

Hmm, not completely. Maybe like a sweeter form of it?

This tea is simply divine hot (which is the only way I have prepared it). The flavors of jasmine and sugar blend nicely together with a hint of tartness from the pineapple. This is a truly magnificent tea, and I love how I am getting the benefits of a green tea while drinking it. It is a decadent treat. I’ll try it cold next to see if I get similar results.

Drank this iced. It’s the first tea I’ve had in weeks. Going through some stuff IRL and haven’t been interested in tea/hobbies. Sorry for being absent.

The jasmine flavour is quite subdued. Creamy caramel, brown sugar, milk, vanilla, fruity pineapple and sour rose hips. I don’t enjoy the rose hips at all. The green tea is very intense, I didn’t enjoy the base very much. Overall, I think it was tasty iced, but I can’t imagine enjoying it hot.

I hope the stuff works it out soon though it is nice to see you back!

Thank you! I’m going to be on and off for a while while I sort myself out, but I hope my passion comes back sometime. I’m just not in a place to enjoy things right now.

I picked this tea up in store this week – after fighting with Davidstea customer service about their online sale. (Total false advertising IMO)
It smelled weird, but I love creme brulee so I was like yeah, sure. I asked for 30g and the girl did the ol’ “Ooops I poured too much! Is 45g ok?” I’m sorry, did I accidentally walk into Teavana? Because they pull that all the time, this is the first time I’ve had it happen at Davids. And she did it with all 7 teas I bought. Seriously, Davidstea is not in my good books right now. (I also opened a pack of tea bags the other day, and half of them were not sealed on the bottom, which I only noticed when I dropped in the tea and it spilled out all of the floor)

I actually totally forgot about it, until I opened my tea cupboard this morning. It’s a very clumpy tea. One of those where it’s nearly impossible to accurately scoop it because just a few big chunks will fill your spoon.

I steeped at 85 degrees. I didn’t want to scorch the green tea in at, but then I started to wonder if that’s hot enough to get a good flavour out of the other ingredients.

First sip was very WTF. I needed a few sips to decipher the flavour. I definitely got a sense of burnt sugar – I could really smell this too. Similar to the flavour in genmaicha. Then there was a bit of jasmine, and some sweet and a little bit creamy. The more I drank it the more I was like DAMN GIRL WHERE YOU BEEN ALL MY LIFE. Though, I do think I made it a bit weak. Next time I’ll add more tea.
