From DAVIDsTEA

You might think tea drinking is a pretty tame pastime, but we like to imagine every new cup is an adventure. Don’t believe us? Try a sip of this exotic, fruity tisane and see where it takes you. Maybe you’ll find yourself floating in a violet-tinted lagoon, perfumed with fresh blueberries. Or perhaps you’ll be sunning yourself on a remote beach, digging into a freshly picked pineapple. Wherever you get whisked away, one thing is certain: you’re going to want to go there again.

Ingredients:
Candied pineapple (pineapple, cane sugar, citric acid, sulfur dioxide), blueberries, lemongrass, elderberries, cornflower petals, natural and artificial flavouring.

Price per 50g: $7.50

Not really a fan. Smells delicious dry, and brewed. Brewed up, it has the odd stevia-like taste to it that I do NOT like. If I hadn’t read the ingredients, I would swear there was stevia in it. Somewhat similar to Blueberry Jam, but not as sweet and more artificial-y tasting. Not going to order it again.

Blue Lagoon is a tea that I had no idea what it would tasted like before I tried it. The aroma doesn’t give away much of the beautiful flavors hidden inside. once you take that first sip, it’s like a huge burst of flavors igniting your taste buds. The blueberry is the most prominent flavor in the tea. Then you can taste other exotic fruits, but nothing specific. Finally, there is an-ever-so-slight floral note to balance out the crazy fruitiness of the tea.

This is another tea where the ingredients sound like they’d be good together, the dry leaf smells good (mostly of blueberry) but the taste falls flat. It is weak if you follow the suggested steeping parameters. I steeped 5 minutes. Tastes mostly of lemongrass and it has a pretty unfortunate colour. I bought with the intent to have it iced because the season is coming and I can’t be guzzling only goji pop. I bought 24 grams but will not refill. It is kind of a miss. Not awful but definitely not what I thought it would be. I added some lemon slices to the pitcher to see if I can can brighten it up a bit.

Awww. That’s too bad that it didn’t work for you. I agree it could use a certain something, but when I think of drinking blue whale candies, that somehow makes this tea better…

Nxtdoor

I’ve never had a blue whale candy. Don’t even know what it is. Sorry!

I have a confession. I received this back in April as a sample. I love blueberries. Blueberry anything. When I went to place another order with DavidsTea this tea was gone! I couldn’t believe it. I was nearly distraught! I had really wanted to try it as I feel the little sample was weak with how much water I added. I knew I would like it, I just wanted the flavor to be stronger than what I had tried.

A few weeks ago, I was browsing around on DavidsTea a few days after I placed an order with them. I had received an email that they had added new webspecials. This was one of them! I snatched it up so quick. It’s an 8.8 oz (250g) bag. I didn’t care. I had to have it. I haven’t had this much of a single tea since my very first tea purchase in a Teavana store where the lady clearly could tell that I didn’t know what I was doing yet and let my buy nearly a pound of a tea! And of course, I am a sucker for free shipping so I placed a second $50 DavidsTea order in one month!

Happy to have this one in my cupboard :)

Question for you guys. How safe is it to leave tea in the zip-top bags they come in from companies?

I find that the zip top bags from Davids re inflate with air if left undisturbed for long enough (a week?). I use Mason jars for my tea because they seal really well and don’t hold odors. They’re also easier to clean than the tins I have. My tea is all stored in a cabinet away from light, so the fact that mason jars are clear isn’t too much of a concern.

I’d recommend repackaging this tea into something air-tight so you don’t have to worry about it going stale. Half a pound of tea can take awhile to go through (or maybe I just don’t drink enough tea!!).

Good luck! _

This tea was disappointing. I expected a strong blueberry tea with other notes, but instead it is prominently lemongrass. The liquor is murky and it tastes kind of murky too. Much better iced than hot. Hot, there is a strange chemical flavour that I don’t really care for.

So I’m basically drinking this to get rid of it. I must admit I’ve never drunk this tea hot, only iced, and its a little too chemically for me and not fruity enough. I don’t taste the blueberry or the pineapple only the sweetener… boo… not at all what I was expecting or hoping for

Memily

You’d be welcome to send it to me, I’m desperate to try it! =P

I’m apparently on a (blue)berry kick these past few days, not that that’s a bad thing (I actually really like blueberries) I just don’t usually have them blended with my tea. So next up? A herbal blueberry tea, probably the only one of DT’s spring collection that really called to me.

Dry this blend is visually dynamic with a bright, clean but yet sweet scent filled with berries. The pineapple and lemongrass lend a very refreshing tone to the profile as well though I don’t get much from the cornflowers.

Once brewed the blue-purple infusion gives off a slightly milder version of the dry aroma. I find the lemongrass to be slightly more present at this time but it blends well with the pineapple and berries.

Flavor wise it’s very similar to the scent profile, berries mixed with a blend of pineapple and lemongrass. It’s a nice light, refreshing mix that goes well with the season. My biggest criticism comes from the candied pineapple, the fruit itself works well with the blend but the sugar from the candy-ing process leaves behind a certain flavor and aftertaste that I don’t enjoy.

Aside from that it’s a pretty good tea, one that I could see cold brewing in the summer too.

Yesterday I was at the mall with my friend who is visiting from out of town, and after a long stretch of hardcore shopping (with my 3.5 month old who appears to be out of the “you do whatever and I will just sit here and sleep” phase…), we realized we were mega thirsty and decided to get an iced tea from Davidstea.

Now this is the first new DT I’ve tried since before I was pregnant.

We sniffed the Spring offerings and none of them appealed to me but this one, which almost smelled blue raspberryish, like a yummy scented candle or something.

We got it iced, hoping it would be refreshing….

I’ve gotta say, I can’t believe this is rated so well. We both thought the same thing…I looked at her and said I didn’t like this very much because it tasted like flowers (in a bad way) and she said she found it really perfumey tasting.

Not fruity at all. Pineapple?? Where?!

2 things – I’m not a huge fan of iced teas, often I might like something hot and find the flavours gross when iced

Also, I think DT has lost a lot of their shine for me…. Plus I’ve never been a huge fan of their spring/summer releases anyway, probably because they’re all fruity and meant to be iced.

If you’re looking for me this summer you will find me drinking up my leftover stash of Santa’s Secret, nice and comforting and hot….haha.

Then on top of this seriously underwhelming tea, the store was all out of the teal mason jar mugs. Boo.

Yum. This is a very fruity tea. I can really taste the blueberry and pineapple and it smells gorgeous in the packet and as it brews. It’s very sweet on it’s own and I find no need to add anything to it. The lady at the store said it would brew blue. That got me a little too excited. It’s more like deep red, almost violet. I’m going to make sure i have enough of this to last a long time.

Technically I’m allergic to pineapples. But there is dried pineapples so less acidic than real pineapples. It smells amazing!!! Unfortunately, I can’t say the same with the taste. usually I put a few german rocks when I steep the tea because it’s easier to melt. Yea…bad idea…too sweet…..too sweet….that I dumped it… :( next time…
