From Butiki Teas

Root Beer Float utilizes our caffeine-free Organic Honeybush base. This naturally sweet honeybush is enhanced with a mouthwatering root beer flavor that gives way to a creamy vanilla flavor that lingers. Gentle citrus, honey, and woody notes are also present. We recommend adding a touch of brown crystal sugar for a wonderful late night dessert treat.

Ingredients: Organic Honeybush, Organic Lotus Stamens, Organic Natural Flavoring (vegan)

So, I turned this into my own little float by adding a dollop of whipping cream to the top. Oh my goodness! Sooooo good.

2.25 tsp in 12 oz. Tasted like I underleafed a bit, even though I used enough according to the instructions.

Flavors: Cream

That sounds wonderful with the whipped cream

OMGsrsly 11 years ago

It’s really good with coconut as well. :)

This is a little more muted than normal but still quite good. I have one more cup worth left but I think this will be a restock. I have so few caffeine free options that I enjoy and so i think this is necessary to keep around.

You’re making this one so tempting, even despite my general dislike of rooibos.

VariaTEA 11 years ago

I can send some along when I grab some more. I am waiting for the Amoda teas to be posted on the site to place my order though.

Courtney 11 years ago

I will probably place an order soon, so I’ll probably request this one as a sample :)

Courtney 11 years ago

Thanks for the offer :)

VariaTEA 11 years ago

No problem. I am always happy to share :)

Butiki Teas 11 years ago

VariaTea-The Amoda Teas were added to our website on Sunday. Amoda should be sharing the link for purchase soon. So, you may want to keep an eye on their social media.

VariaTEA 11 years ago

Really? I have been checking the site daily and can’t find them. They are hiding it seems.

Butiki Teas 11 years ago

Pretty much. They aren’t in the tea section. They have a special link, so the only way to find them is through Amoda posting the address since Amoda customers are getting first access to them since they are exclusive custom blends.

It took me over three hours to fall asleep last night, so even though I doubt caffeine is the problem (most likely anxiety and/or an over-thinking brain), I’m going to start the day off with something caffeine-free.

I normally can’t deal with honeybush or rooibos blends because they tend to be far too woodsy for me, but I couldn’t pass up the root beer. Dry, this is a dead ringer for creamy root beer.

After six minutes, I thought I’d test it out. After stirring the tea before pouring it into my cup, I licked the teaspoon and it tasted like creamy vanilla. Ok, so far so good. No overly powerful base. Yet.

But the first sip was far too woodsy for me. Even more so than I would expect from a honeybush. The root beer was there but was struggling to remain noticed amongst the honeybush frenemies.

Hmm, let’s experiment and put some half and half in this. By far better. The half and half simultaneously dampens the base and brings out the root beer flavouring. Kind of like drinking a root beer float. Yay!

I’ll be drinking it like this from now on, and will even try my other rooibos/honeybush blends with some half and half.

Now to think about what to brew to take to the library with me.

Oof, that’s a LONG time to be attempting to fall asleep…

TheTeaFairy 11 years ago

Not that it helps in any ways, but you know I feel for you and understand :-)
I’ve tried the no caffeine thing and I know that’s not the problem for me. But you never know, if you’ve never tried. To really know, you have to do no caffeine for about a week, man that was hard and all for nothing. I was tea-less for a whole week!

Fjellrev 11 years ago

Aww, yeah, I wish no one in the entire world had to deal with this. I’ve done caffeine-free periods for a while and they don’t seem to matter either. I’ve had sleeping problems since I was 12 or so, really.

At least now you know that you can drink all the tea you want!

tigress_al 11 years ago

Sooooooooooo frustrating not sleeping :(

Cold Brewed.

The flavour of this one has really deteriorated over time, which is pretty sad but to be fair this is also more than a year old. At least I’m almost out of it – just a little sad that my last cups of this beauty wont be the best cups of it.

The honeybush base was very, very strong with the rootbeer actually being the second strongest flavour overall. Didn’t get any sort of “float” aspect at all. At this point I only have enough leaf left for one more cold brew, two hot cups, or possibly one Tea Soda? Might make that soda today and if it still comes out weak just add some Rootbeer Schnapps…

Unofficial Steepster Survey/Data Poll

A few days ago in chat we were talking about our ages (for whatever reason, can’t remember how it came up) and now I’m curious what the “average” age is of Steepsters users. I’m also curious who the youngest and oldest Steepster users are – so if you’re comfortable sharing would you guys mind commenting with how old you are?

I’m 19 – can anyone hear “beat me” for youngest user on Steepster?

This is kind of neat to see. I tend to assume people on the internet are around the same age as me, unless there’s good reason to believe otherwise, and I’m pretty sure I’m wrong a lot of the time.

Roswell Strange 10 years ago

So far VariaTEA and I are the youngest; but yeah, this is fascinating! I didn’t realize so many of you are in your thirties. @Anlina, I think I must do the same thing as you because in my head I “aged down” a lot of you :P

Butiki Teas 10 years ago

Roswell Strange-I would have never assumed you to be 19. I always assumed late 20s-ish.

Yay for 35 club!

Sil and Bear With Me were talking about root beer lattes earlier, so I had to make one with what I have in my fridge!

Root Beer Noel Nog (soy this time) latte. I broke into my last packet of Root Beer Float for this one! So sad. It’s one of my favourite honeybush teas as it doesn’t taste sour to me.

Anyways, you might not think that root beer would go well with eggnog, but adding the nutmeg and rum to the vanilla and cream… this is an amped up hot root beer float. Really really delicious. :D

(12 oz tea, 8 oz nog added in stages, 16 oz mug)

Preparation
205 °F / 96 °C 5 min, 0 sec 4 tsp 12 OZ / 354 ML

Bear With Me 10 years ago

Nice!! You should try it with the other root beer float and report back :P

(Or I should go search for any remaining nog locally. Hmm…)

OMGsrsly 10 years ago

I don’t have any of the other one left! I found it at my Safeway two days ago. They had soy, and some 50% off milk ones.

VariaTEA 10 years ago

I meant to make this as an eggnog latte and I keep forgetting. Soon…

Bear With Me 10 years ago

Lamesauce on both fronts! Boo to none of the other one left (i have just under half of the 750g I picked up before it went away again…) and boo to safeway (ours are all gone. They’re save on foods now)

OMGsrsly 10 years ago

That is so weird, Bear With Me! But stuff here is all turning in to Price Smart foods, and even Shoppers carries Presidents Choice, and I can’t remember who but something else got bought out by the same company as IGA. Thrifty’s and something else…

OMGsrsly 10 years ago

(I got 100g of the other one and enjoyed it, but not enough to get more!)

Bear With Me 10 years ago

Thrifty’s is owned by Sobey’s now (and theh actually bought the property my old high school is on, and will be building a grocery store there once the new schools open and the old one is torn down). Superstore I think carries PC as well as no name. But yeah.

Roswell Strange 10 years ago

Sobeys owns Thrifty’s and Safeway now.

OMGsrsly 10 years ago

Yeah! That’s it. There are “Compliments” things at Safeway and IGA and Thrifty’s now. Blah. Safeway is even more expensive, and the accessible Thrifty’s is now a Price Smart.

OMGsrsly 10 years ago

I don’t like it because all the stores are carrying the same things. It’s boring. :)

Bear With Me 10 years ago

Weird! If Sobey’s owns Safeway too, then why are the island ones all Save Ons instead of Safeways?

I’m glad our Thrifty’s are still the same awesomenesses, despite being owned by Sobey’s. A few of them are open 24hrs now which has come in handy a few times.

Bear With Me 10 years ago

Rumour has it we’re getting a Whole Foods at Uptown soon. Hello expensiveness.

OMGsrsly 10 years ago

Maybe I have it wrong idk. I thought it said Safeway when I looked up Sobeys. I still miss the thriftys brand salsa. :( Cheap and delicious and in large containers! And surpisingly some things are way cheaper at Whole Paycheque Foods. I know, it doesn’t seem like it because all the new expensive fancy stuff tempts you and somehow finds its way into your shopping basket… but some things are cheaper. :)

Bear With Me 10 years ago

I just wish Trader Joe’s would come here. Mmmmm cookie butter

OMGsrsly 10 years ago

Boo cookie butter. :(:( But yay wine in the grocery store. :D

Dexter 10 years ago

Sobeys owns safeway and the competition bureau of canada made them sell off certain stores in certain areas re fair competition. Here several safeways became co-op foods. Loblaws owns both superstore and shoppers hense presidents choice appearing in shoppers…..

Roswell Strange 10 years ago

Sobeys has two “in house” brands – Compliments and Sensations. They’re similar to/the equivalent of “No Name” brand. Not sure why your Safeways are becoming “Save Ons” though (never heard of that company/chain). Personally I don’t mind the compliments brand – I think it’s definitely better than a lot of grocery stores’ private brands/labels. But maybe I’m a touch biased since I work for Sobeys now…

OMGsrsly 10 years ago

Save On is Overwaitea. Compliments gluten free stuff isn’t super great and is even more expensive than the known good brands. Makes me sad because they’re carrying more of their brands and less of the brands I want to eat. So I buy more at the local independent grocers.

Thanks, Dex. I thought Shoppers was going weird. ;) And they are! More PC stuff and less ‘Life’ stuff.

Roswell Strange 10 years ago

Sobeys also owns FreshCo, IGA, Foodland, and Price Chopper – and partners with Lawton Drugs for the in store pharmacies in many of those stores.

Sami Kelsh 10 years ago

Whoa, Shoppers merged with PC?! This is blowing my mind! Will I even recognise my home and native land when I move back?!

Sil 10 years ago

40% off 250g on david’s website haha…

OMGsrsly 10 years ago

It’s so weird! And the only one we have is IGa. Idk what price chopper etc are.

Sil, I do not need 250g of it! I’m happy with what I had. :)

gmathis 10 years ago

I must be weird…getting a huge kick reading about all these chains I’ve never heard of :)

Sil 10 years ago

Funnily enough, this one came to me shortly after i finished up the butterbeer tea from frank that i had. Now, i haven’t tried frank’s rootbeer float but THIS is easily a replacement for the butterbeer tea from him that i enjoyed. I’m looking forward to trying this one as a cold brew to see how that works. Stacy is still settling on steeping paramters, so for this attempt i went with 1tsp per 8oz and brewed for 5 mins. What i’m gifted with is a delicious cup of rootbeer tea! I even gave some to my other half who proclaimed that it was “not half bad…” glowing praise from him indeed :) I’ll have to try 1.5 tsp per 8oz next as i suspect that will bring out more of the “float” flavour. What i also really like about this version is that it’s not a black base. I need more honeybush/herbal/rooibos blends in my cupboard for the evenings that i’ve spent most of the day drinking a ton of caffeinated tea :) I think this one is a win stacy!

Is this new? I think I’ll have to stock up as I loved Butterbeer.

Crowkettle 12 years ago

Excellent to hear about the Butterbeer comparison. I was hoping that would be the case.

Antonia G 12 years ago

Ooooo, I’d be too afraid to invest in a tea like this, risky indeed. I hear great things about Butiki, but I am super picky about flavors like this. I would also expect it to be a black tea base, which is interesting indeed. Is it an herbal base? It’s great that you liked it!

Sil 12 years ago

This is a honey bush base so it’s differs from the root beer versions I’ve had from 52 tea, which have been black when I’ve tried them. I’ve also tried some rooibos rootbeer blends that weren’t as delicious as this one. I want to try it a few other ways but I am digging this version a lot!

Crow – as long as butterbeer tastes like rootbeer to you, you should be good. Cause it just tastes like rootbeer to me :)

Sil 12 years ago

Cavo – it is….not up on the website yet but you CAN order it by asking Stacy heh

OMGsrsly 12 years ago

I am so excited to get mine! Soon. :)

tigress_al 12 years ago

TTBA #9
I understeeped this, it seems. Was rushing, as Dad asked me to make him a cup at the last minute (of another tea, don’t worry haha) and then Mum wanted one so I was scrambling to get things done before the water boiled. Anyhow.
Hmmm. What I ended up with was a very tasty, smooth, slightly bubbly chai rooibos. Quite enjoyable! but I won’t rate it, as I certainly didn’t get rootbeer, or “float” and it’s probably my own doing. C’est la vie?

Backlog from last night!

I got SO MANY teas in the mail yesterday- http://twitpic.com/dmlor5

This is the first one I decided to try. It does indeed taste like rootbeer! I’m really glad it was a honeybush and not a rooibos tea. I hate rooibos. I’m glad to have a few nice caffeine free teas around for evening consumption :)

Sorry Root Beer honeybush! I enjoyed the first few sips of you and then was quickly consumed by fanigirlishness. And I never thought I’d be a fangirl, but I ship Johnlock so hard it’s all-consuming.

And I don’t care who knows it. :P

It started because I read this fic: https://archiveofourown.org/works/240332 (Seeds), and followed that up with this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jiYyv_vQokw and now I just want to jump up and down and squeal and be the happiest.

So, in short, this tea was very good, but I don’t think any tea would be able to distract me when I’m so ridic happy.

Thanks to Stacy for a sample of this.
This is a tasty cup, very true to the root beer flavor & aroma, with vanilla ice cream mixed in there as well. Although it’s not something I would crave, & I’m grateful for the opportunity to sample it. Stacy is the master of creating amazing flavored brews, & this is definitely one of them.
