Sipdown! A sad one, because I’ve enjoyed having a cup of this tea in the afternoons. It’s probably one of the most unusual flavour combinations I’ve tried so far, but it works really well. The pineapple is sweet and juicy, it’s nicely offset by the corriander, and it’s beautifully creamy. I’ve been adding a couple of small pieces of crystal sugar to augment the creaminess, and it’s just wonderful. Lovely stuff, and definitely one I’d re-purchase in future!

Thank you Stacy for this sample tea!

I have TROUBLE with Bai Mu Dan and I have no idea why! I didn’t even know that this tea had bai mu dan in it when I brewed it…thinking nothing in particular past the name of the flavor in the sample.

What happens is either I can’t taste the flavor at all, or I get a furry kind of feeling in my mouth with no flavor. It’s odd (to say the least).

Being fair about reviews (and fair to Butiki)…and seeing that I couldn’t really taste the tea, I thought I’d share a funny story from my daughters blog about what happened this morning when the appraiser came to her house.
Annalisa has 9 children at the moment (3 are Foster Children under the age of 3), their 8 year old son in the story is bi-polar and gets excited easily.
Her blog is: http://theaseticlivesofmothers@blogspot.com

Pole Dancing!
So, dear friends, the appraiser came. He was very nice and thankfully he has two sons of his own because my 8 year old followed him around the house with his mouth going probably two miles a minute. My son showed the appraiser the plans we have for our micro farm and told him if he didn’t score us well we’d end up on the street (thank you 10 year old brother!). It was amazing what my son fit into a 10 minute interaction. Up to this point while he had been talking this poor man’s ear off he had not said anything particularly shocking. But we weren’t finished yet.

I learned a lot about appraisals and how FHA guidelines differ from conventional guidelines. I learned what a conforming window really meant and what actually counted as a bedroom. We were almost free and clear but just as he was slipping on his shoes to leave my son said “I want to be a pole dancer when I grow up.”

WHAT?!

Then he added enthusiastically, “And my oldest sister told me she secretly wants to be one too!”

The man just looked at me and smiled and told me it was okay before he headed out the door. I asked my son if he even knew what a pole dancer was. “It’s someone who dances on a pole.” Hmmmm. “Like at the circus where they climb up and down the pole and do tricks?”

I asked. “Yeah, just like that!”
Of course the appraiser didn’t get to hear that part. All that poor man knows is that we are a extra large family with children who aspire to be pole dancers!

Thank you Lord for the innocence of my son! I hope you enjoy this little chuckle today!

KallieBoo!

LOL That sounds like something the children in my family would say. Thank you for the silly story :]

When first reading this I got hung up on the Bai Mu Dan which I happen to love, not as much as Silver Needle, but I do love complex and subtle teas. Anyway, looking at this again – its pineapple and cilantro! I can’t picture the two together but even more I can’t imagine them being so tamed you couldn’t taste them. Interesting.

Bonnie

I tried on two occasions, still could not taste it. Not the first time for bai mu dan.

Love the story! Made me laugh XD

Such a different tea.
I was sure it wasn’t my thing after a few sips. I can taste the cilantro mostly (not a bad thing I like cilantro) but the pineapple was strangely absent. So I’m sitting here looking through a couple message boards ignoring the tea for a bit when out of nowhere I taste pineapple. It had been a good half minute since I’d taken a tip and it just popped up out of the blue when I wasn’t thinking about it (so strange!).
So now that it’s cooled some and it’s got me intrigued, I’m back to it and it tastes a bit different. I can now taste a LIGHT flavoring of pineapple mixed in. The strong cilantro has mellowed a bit and the flavors seem to be getting along better.
What an interesting tea. Not sure it’s my thing but I can certainly appreciate it.

Does the cilantro taste pretty true to the real thing? I’ve wanted to try this since everyone has been talking about it but I’ve been nervous since I’m not a huge cilantro person.

T.C.

I though it did shrug It was certainly recognizable to me as cilantro.

RachanaC (Rachel)-iHeartTeas

Thanks, I may have to pass on this one.

Butiki Teas

T.C.-I probably should have mentioned this in the description, but this tea is at its best after it has had a chance to cool a little bit.

T.C.

I noticed this. At the start I tasted mostly cilantro and little/no pineapple. After it cooled some the cilantro retreated and the pineapple came out some and it was very well balanced.

Butiki Teas

For most of our flavors, the flavors tend to come out more after the tea has cooled a little but when other herbs and spices are added they are noticeable immediately and it can take some time for the flavor to catch up. That’s interesting that you didn’t taste any pineapple at all right away and then it suddenly appeared.

I am currently kicking myself for not trying this tea sooner. I was feeling in the mood for a good white blend and found this in my “omg review me” pile.
The cilantro made me scratch my head. Cilantro is rabbit food in my house, Benson eats it as a staple along with kale.

Anyways, this tea is GOOD! Great buttery white tea! Amazingly creamy! An whoa, that pineapple flavor is dead on natural tasting! The cilantro is at end of sip and more of a light grassy flavor adding lots of interest and complimenting the buttery flavor of the tea. yum! Totally made my day!

Hmm, but do I like this or Flowery Pineapple Oolong (also Butiki) more? I’d lean on Flowery Pineapple, but both are really good and different enough to justify owning both.

This is not a tea I’m expecting to enjoy – just need to say that up front. Cilantro tends to taste soapy, and I don’t care for bai mu dan.

And after the first sip, umm, no. It’s interesting, yes. Delicious? Not to me. But I can see how people would like this tea.

After sugar: Hmm. A little better, but still no. I’m getting more pineapple now.

I’m about 1/3 through my mug trying to pick this tea apart. I need to stop and move on to something that doesn’t taste quite so much like chutney.

I prefer Stacy’s other pineapple tea :)

OMGsrsly

Me too! I’m going to wait till summer is closer to get some of that one, though.

I’d love to try the Flowery Pineapple before ordering more if this. I finished the last of mine tonight and am doing a resteep.

Oo Oo Oo what a treat!!! thanks so much Shelley_Lorraine you are a mystery box pro.
i think you started a trend. you are ahead of your time.
it’s a beautiful tea and smells fresh and shiny. i’m a person who easily likes cilantro. and basil too. i think basil can go in anything. i made this as a very tiny cup. in my gongfu. and did a second steep. so basically i saved the little rest of the bit for tomorrow :)

Shelley_Lorraine

I’m happy that you’ve found at least one so far to love. (^^) And I’m so happy that the mystery box thing is getting trendy. I can’t wait till I am able to jump back into the fun!!

I have some of this coming to me so I can’t wait.

Surprisingly floral in a few of the sips, which I’m (kind of?) okay with. Little cilantro anything sadly, which I love, and a touch of pineapple after the sip. I wish there was more pineapple, more cilantro, and less-to-no floral notes. It’s a lovely light tea though, vegetal and really flavorful as the cup progresses.

1.5 tsp in 8 oz, notes of floral, pineapple, vegetal.

I’ve been curious about this one due to the cilantro, but not sure I would like the vegetal notes. Hard to imagine cilantro in tea.

I really enjoy white teas and this one was no exception. It is slightly sweet with fresh pineapple and that creamy note that Stacy always blends so well. Oh wait….what is that….it’s the cilantro but it is not overpowering or too strong. Delicious. I NEVER would have thought to pair these together!
It isn’t quite as good as my beloved Flowery pineapple oolong, but it is definitely up there!
Resteeped for 4 minutes was also great!

Sipdown, 192. The last of my samples from Stephanie, thanks!

I will go on the record as saying that I am deeply skeptical of this tea. Although I do love cilantro, I only have it in savory applications and it doesn’t sound like something I want in my tea. But when Stephanie offered to send me a sample of it I said ok, because I am willing to give pretty much anything a shot.

The steeped tea smells lightly of pineapple and cilantro. I definitely get the sensation of sniffing a tropical salsa. Hmm interesting flavor. I think the most predominant flavor I get is the cilantro, followed by white tea and then pineapple. It’s a bit vegetal and a bit fruity, but overall the flavor is fairly light (I am sure I didn’t underleaf it, as Stephanie sent the perfect amount). The texture is certainly creamy. This tea definitely turned out better than I might have thought, but its definitely not the tea for me. Cilantro just doesn’t belong in my tea I think. :)

I pretty much agree with you about this one. It was fun to try but not something I want to drink all the time or anything! :)
