268 Tasting Notes
Well, first it is pretty fun to watch the “butterflies” unravel in the hot water. This tea is a delicate jasmine tea for sure. I can’t really taste the base at all and the jasmine is very subtle. Of the jasmine teas I have on hand, I much prefer Verdant’s White Yunnan Jasmine. Of course, I prefer white to green tea in any case and I like how both the jasmine is stronger and the base shines through with that one.
As an aside, here is a fun fact about Lepidoptera (the order to which butterflies and moths belong): When caterpillars enter the cocoon or chrysalis, their entire body is broken down into a kind of caterpillar soup which then reforms into the body of the moth or butterfly. However, the butterfly or moth retains memories that it made as a caterpillar (older than three weeks). How incredible is that?

Don’t mind me, I’m just here getting tea drunk by myself on a Sunday morning. Holy crap I felt it a little bit before, but I’m 2/3 of the way through this mug and it hit me hard. The dry leaf of this tea reminded me of the Golden Monkey (The Northern Lights Tea Company) that I just tried. It has the same marigold-colored leaves interspersed through the darker brown but the leaves are longer than the golden monkey. Taste-wise, I am also reminded of golden monkey, but without the strong cocoa notes. It seems like a more tame version of golden monkey. All in all, a good cuppa! Thanks for getting me tea drunk, Virginia! LOL

Well, this tea has the buttered part of the buttered rum in spades; the rum part not so much. Really, all I’m getting is butter but I want the coconut to come out because coconut and I are BFFL. I can’t find the coconut though. Sad face. I’m going to resteep this now and add the recommended sugar and milk and see what happens.
Yes, always add milk and sugar to this one. Now the coconut shows up as well as the vanilla:-). This tones down the butter, which also helps. I mean, I like butter as much as the next girl but I don’t want to drink a cup of straight butter. Thanks to Virginia for this tropical treat!
Also, I watched WAY TOO MUCH Hannibal yesterday. I had to sleep with the lights on LOL. That girl that hid under beds freaked me out too much!!

It is so good! Is it just me, or does Hugh Dancy remind you a bit of Hugh Jackman with his facial expressions?
This is pretty good! It does taste very syrup-y and buttery and a little bit creamy too. And even though it’s rooibos, no wood chip taste! I’m not a syrup connoisseur though and I don’t think I’ve ever had syrup that wasn’t Mrs. Butterworth or equivalent.
Also, those little maple leaves are adorable.

First sip. I can barely write this tasting note over the sound of my taste buds screaming “ohgodohgodohgod getitoffmegetitoffmegetitoffme”. There is this terrible chemical aftertaste. Also, disclaimer, I don’t like lemonade to begin with but I promised Virginia I’d try this. There’s no way I’m drinking the rest of this.
Preparation
I have a good-sized sample left and you are more than welcome to it. PM me if you’d like me to pop it in the mail to you.
This tea is strange. It doesn’t taste as rooibos-y as other rooibos blends, so that’s a point in its favor. It doesn’t taste much like anything really. I get a little caramel taste when I exhale after the sip. It does taste a little creamy but there’s really no flavor for the creaminess to compliment. At least it doesn’t taste like wood chip tea like some rooibos blends!
Also, there’s a pretty good (for Minnesota) thunderstorm going on outside and it is making me miss Florida SO FREAKING MUCH! Why did I ever move away? Le sigh.
Flavors: Cream
Preparation
This is excellent. I really really like it. I love oolongs to start with and this has that oolong-ness to it, but that flavor is wrapped in this soft layer of milky creaminess. It reminds me of the crème fraîche that my grandma (who’s from Newfoundland) used to give me as a child. I love what I called “neufy cream” and am so pleased to find a tea reminiscent of it :-).
Flavors: Butter, Cream
Preparation
This tea is very relaxing and also very confusing. To me, it tastes very definitively of peach with some honey notes. However, neither of these things are listed in the ingredients list. Whatever, I’m still enjoying it although there is a slight astringency at the end of the sip that I’m not crazy about.
Also, I can’t stop watching Hannibal! Thanks a lot Ost and Virgnia. LOL
Flavors: Honey, Peach
Preparation
This tea is really delicate, which I didn’t expect for whatever reason. It has a nicely mild vegetal taste with a hint of lime in the aftertaste which is not too tart or intense. There is a creamy feel to the tea, although not necessarily a creamy taste. I like it but I’m not blown away.
