I was pretty excited to try this tea because I’ve never had a pear tea before and pear is one of my favorite fruits. I must admit that I ended up disappointed. To me, this neither smelled nor tasted like pear, or at least not like real pear. It was quite artificial tasting. The spices were balanced nicely and didn’t overwhelm the fruity flavor with ginger taking the forefront. They were more muted though, so if you like a lot of spice to your tea this would not be the blend for you. This tea was pleasant enough but nothing that I would buy again.

Flavors: Cardamom, Ginger

Preparation
Boiling 3 min, 30 sec 2 tsp 12 OZ / 354 ML
Cheri

It’s disappointing when a tea is supposed to taste like something and it just doesn’t.

I’m not sure with what this tea is supposed to help mothers. Maybe they could use it as a punishment? “If you hit your sister one more time, so help me God I will get out the Mother’s Little Helper. Don’t make me do it!” That’s what I envision.

This tea. Just no. It tastes like what I imagine laundry detergent would taste like. You are avenged for the lavender chamomile, Virginia. I won’t rate this because I obviously have a problem with some flavor in here. I’m sure if you like all the ingredients, it would be…. ingestible?

Preparation

I love the idea of tea as punishment!

Between the chamomile and the valerian I think it’s supposed to sedate you. ;-)

Damn this is good! So chocolately…tempered with a little bit of mint, which is one of the better flavor combinations on the planet in my opinion. Thanks so much for sharing this with me, Virginia! It’s very similar to Harney and Sons chocolate mint tea but I think I slightly prefer this version. Plus, it has those cute little red lips in it :-). However, H&S gets points for accessibility since I can find it at Target.

Flavors: Dark Chocolate, Mint

Preparation
Boiling 4 min, 15 sec 2 tsp 12 OZ / 354 ML
TheTeaFairy

Ok, I never go to target, but now I want to run there first thing in the morning…they carry H&S???? Bet it’s only at their US stores though…hmmm, worth checking, you never know!

mj

Well, they only carry 5-6 varieties and only tea sachets- no loose leaf. But, it’s totally convenient, right?? I’m not sure about Target in Canada. I tried to check their Canadian website, but it’s super rudimentary compared with their US website. In the US you can check their website and it tells you what stores in your area have your product of interest in stock. Not so with the Canadian website :-( Still, it might be worth checking in person!

TheTeaFairy

Aww, you,re a sweetheart thanks for looking. I’m just going to remember to check things out next time I drive by :-)
(And yes, our online shopping system is pretty retarded compared to the US. we’re getting there, but veeery slooowy, lol)

Suziqzer

I didn’t know Target carried any Harney & Sons! I looked late last year when I first gained an interest in tea and they didn’t have it at my local store then… according to the website, they do now :) Thanks for the info.

mj

No problem The Tea Fairy and Suziqzer! You can’t throw a rock without hitting a Target in Minneapolis (it’s their headquarters), so I buy a lot of stuff there lol.

Holy tannins, Batman! This tea is BOLD. At first I didn’t think that I liked this very much at all, but I think it’s because I was just surprised. Now I am enjoying it. The taste starts as malty for split second and then it is just TANNIC. It is a super bold black tea, so you will like this if you like that sort of thing. Thanks Virginia for sending me my first Kenyan tea :-)

This tea is weird. Dry, the leaves smelled slightly medicinal but I couldn’t put my finger on what it was exactly. When steeping, the leaves smelled a lot like cannabis. Like, a lot. The taste is green tea with something else? Maybe the dandelion root? I’ve never had dandelion root, so I don’t know. My stomach was feeling not quite right but this tea is actually helping and I kind of like it more and more as I’m sipping. This is marketed as a hangover tea and I think it would work really well for that if you can get past the smell. It might be too much for me if I was actually hung over. I would never in a million years have picked this tea, but thanks to Virginia I now know that I like it and it’s pretty useful for calming mild stomach issues. Success!

drank Sangria by DAVIDsTEA

I cold brewed this tea and it does taste remarkably like sangria. Totally mission accomplished there. That’s all I can think of to say. I prefer my sangria with wine in it though, so I probably wouldn’t buy this tea. Thanks Virginia for the sample!

Preparation
Iced 8 min or more 5 g 12 OZ / 354 ML
Nxtdoor

You could, of course, mix in some inexpensive rose wine.

Cheri

I was thinking the same thing, although I don’t know that I’d go with a rose. But yeah, this could definitely be mixed with actual wine.

The leaves are so dark green! They were quite small too but really expanded upon brewing. Everything about this tea is GREEN. The look, the smell, and especially the taste. To me, it tasted quite a lot like edamame, which I enjoyed. However, each sip ended with a really harsh astringency that I was not a fan of at all. Maybe I screwed up when I brewed this? I won’t rate it in case I did. Thanks to Virginia for doing so much to help me broaden my tea horizons :-)

Preparation

The temperature of your water was too high, this is better at 70 degrees for 2 min

The David’s site lies! I’ll try it at 70C next time. Thanks :-)

The dry leaves smell amazing…kind of peachy? When steeping, I smelled brussels sprouts…kinda confused now lol. When sipping there is a rich and mellow savory base, almost like butter but not really as there’s a slight vegetal element to it. When the sip fades, there’s a tiny bit of peach flavor that pops up to wave goodbye. I like this tea a lot! I think rich is the best word to describe. I’m totally enjoying trying this out. Thanks Virginia!

This is a bold chai! No surprise that it came from the spice-loving Virginia :-). The star of the show is cinnamon for sure. I also get some cardamom with some chocolate whispers to end the sip. Underneath that…..the dreaded rooibos! It sours this tea some for me although the flavors are bold enough to almost overpower that taste…almost. I won’t rate this since I am not a fan of rooibos.

drank Glitter & Gold by DAVIDsTEA

Another tea from David’s Tea that gets major points for presentation but falls flat in the taste department. All those little shiny gold things melt into the tea so your tea is all sparkly! Fun! Tastewise, however, it tastes almost exactly like Harney and Sons Hot Cinnamon Sunset but muted and kind of watered down. If I hadn’t had the H&S version before, I probably would have liked this much better but it’s too subtle for my taste and I NEVER say that about cinnamon teas…most of the time I complain that the cinnamon drowns everything else out. With this tea though, the cinnamon is tamer, which I like, but all the other flavors are just as muted and still don’t get to shine through. It’s a big sparkly cup of meh.

Flavors: Cinnamon, Orange

Preparation
Boiling 5 min, 30 sec 2 tsp 12 OZ / 354 ML
Marzipan

So interesting, I am having this one now and it’s all butter toffee.

mj

I was just drinking it plain…maybe I should have added sugar? and/or milk?

Marzipan

I add sugar.

Tea-obsessed, book worm scientist.

I love black tea, especially Chinese black tea- I’m looking at you Fujians and Yunnans! I also enjoy Indian teas, mostly first flush darjeelings (and a select few assams).
I think I’m recently starting to like oolongs better though- gasp! I’ve been cheating on my black teas with all these lovely, alluring green floral oolongs. Sorry I’m not sorry.
White tea gets a lot of love too! I am particularly fond of silver needle whites.
I can’t seem to appreciate green teas and rooibos is foul, IMO.
