drank Coffee Pu'erh by DAVIDsTEA

So, I don’t hate this and I was completely prepared to. I am SHOCKED. I am a complete coffee hater. I don’t even like chocolates with a coffee filling or coffee ice cream. I actually really like the smell of coffee and even the start of the coffee taste, but that bitter aftertaste always gets me. This tea magically has a bit of the aroma and the taste without any of the aftertaste. It tastes like all the things I like about mocha without that terrible bitterness at the end. I’m getting through this whole cup and it’s not a struggle at all. Would I buy this again? Probably not. But I am glad that I tried it, thanks to Virginia! I won’t rate this since I am not a coffee fan.

I am not a fan of bergamot but I actually like this well enough. Crazy. Vanilla is a magical substance! Granted, I did add milk and sugar because I was apprehensive about the blerg, but those two combined with the vanilla tamed the flavor beast that is bergamot so that it floated in the background and was largely inoffensive. If you like regular earl grey, this tea would probably be amazing. Thanks, Virginia, for talking me into trying this one! Who knew I could enjoy a tea with bergamot in it?

drank Caramel MATCHAccino by Matcha Outlet

Um yyyuuuummmm. This matcha is so good! I’ve already had two today lol. It tastes like a caramel milk shake. I’ve only had the English toffee and Belgium chocolate matchas. Compared to those two, the caramel flavor is stronger and the matcha milk seems much creamier. The directions said 1 scoop, so I used the small spoon from my silverware for 8oz milk. I want to drink this all the time!!

Flavors: Caramel, Cream

I enjoyed the caramel matcha from Red Leaf the most! So good!

This tea is so pretty! I love the dark twisty leaves interspersed with light golden leaves. Uuuuhhh this tastes amazing! So smooth with zero bitterness or astringency. Each sip brings up unsweetened chocolate with a nutty finish that’s a tiny bit sweet. What a nice way to wake up this morning :-)

Flavors: Cocoa, Nutty

Boiling 4 min, 15 sec 2 tsp 12 OZ / 354 ML

drank Tulsi Honey Chamomile by Organic India
268 tasting notes

My dear friend Lucky just got back from visiting his family in India for 3 weeks and he brought me teas!!!! What a sweetheart. He just dropped them by tonight and this was the only caffeine free option, so I had to try it immediately. This is only my second tulsi and I must say that I am really enjoying the tulsi-chamomile combination! It tones down the green bean-ness of the tulsi. The chamomile is just lovely too and there’s a subtle sweetness from the honey flavor that makes this a really well rounded cup. I actually think I’m going to make myself a second cup right now :-)

Boiling 4 min, 0 sec

drank Love Tea #7 by DAVIDsTEA

Hell yes to this tea. I like it. A lot. The strawberry flavor is quite sweet. It’s not like a fresh strawberry, but more like the strawberry filling in a chocolate truffle. The chocolate is also like a truffle, so smooth. The ingredients claim it’s dark chocolate, but to me it tasted more like milk chocolate. There’s also a floral element which sounds like it would be weird, but I actually felt like it tied everything together. If dessert teas are your thing, I highly recommend this one. Thank you Virginia for this strawberry chocolatey goodness :-)

Flavors: Chocolate, Floral, Strawberry

Preparation
205 °F / 96 °C 5 min, 45 sec 2 tsp 12 OZ / 354 ML

Ahh I’ll have to try that some time!

drank Coconut Oolong by DAVIDsTEA
268 tasting notes

I was super confident that I was going to like this tea….and I didn’t. I mean, come on, I love coconut and oolong! The smell was not good. I’m not a huge fan of the smell of lemon grass and in this tea it came across as extremely unappetizing. The coconut flavor was good; it came through strong at the beginning of the sip and the lemongrass flavor wasn’t as strong as the smell had led me to believe it was going to be. However, the lemongrass lingered and lingered and lingered at the end of each sip. I even felt like the smell was following me around the lab. There was an oily feel that this tea left in my mouth that I was not a fan of in the slightest. Thank you Virginia for sending me a sample of this because there’s an excellent chance I would have bought some of this and then been stuck with a tea I don’t like!

Flavors: Coconut, Lemongrass

Preparation
185 °F / 85 °C 5 min, 0 sec 2 tsp 12 OZ / 354 ML
Virginia

I know, I find it weird too. It’s super sad ‘cause once in a while it’s WOW and then it disappoints the rest of the time. Boo.

mj

I’ll have to try it again then! Maybe it will wow me the second time :-)

Mmm matcha. I had this on the way to work this morning, in cold milk. So good! I got this as the free sample for May. Are the free samples automatically the delicate flavor level? If so, I would get this in distinctive, or maybe even robust level of flavor. The chocolate was there, and so creamy, but I wanted MOAR CHOCOLATE. As always lol

Flavors: Chocolate

Preparation
0 tsp 8 OZ / 236 ML
Cheri

I got mine robust when I got this flavor.

mj

Thanks! I’ll get robust if I order this again

I really like this! I was feeling pretty tired at work this morning and so made a cup of this tea. The first sip literally made me smile and say “mmmm” like I was in a coffee commercial lol. So fruity and juicy! I really like the combination of the mango, which dominates the taste, with the tart pomegranate in the background. I didn’t finish the whole cup before I went to lunch and it was pretty good cold when I got back. I do slightly prefer it hot though. Thank you Virginia for the sample!

drank Birthday Cake by DAVIDsTEA
268 tasting notes

The wonderful Virginia sent this to me despite the fact that we both have an aversion to rooibos. I trust her so it was worth a try :-). I actually liked this a shocking amount considering it was rooibos. The birthday cake icing taste is spot on. The only thing that keeps this from being insanely good is the rooibos taste underneath. So woodsy :-/. It kind of tastes like someone ran out of flour while baking a birthday cake and made up the difference with sawdust.

Flavors: Butter, Cream, Rooibos, Vanilla

Preparation
2 tsp 12 OZ / 354 ML
Marzipan

That’s what I dislike about rooibos too. I wish I could get past the mulch taste.

albertocanfly

Yum! Cake and rooibos sounds like my cuppa! I couldn’t help but laugh at your description of the cake, though. I pictured some little, old grandma in the middle of the woods not wanting to hike all the way to the store and settling for sawdust instead:P

Cheri

This does sound like my cuppa as well. I enjoy a good dessert rooibos in the evening. I don’t have nearly enough of them. I also agree about the image of some gramma making a cake and after searching frantically for more flour just giving up and adding whatever she could find. giggle

Virginia

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA OMG
YES

That last sentence killed me. That’s a spot on description xD

mj

Haha that’s the only way I could think of to describe it. Now that albertocanfly brought it up, I’m completely picturing Little Red Riding Hood’s grandma making the sawdust cake.

I love black tea, especially Chinese black tea- I’m looking at you Fujians and Yunnans! I also enjoy Indian teas, mostly first flush darjeelings (and a select few assams).
I think I’m recently starting to like oolongs better though- gasp! I’ve been cheating on my black teas with all these lovely, alluring green floral oolongs. Sorry I’m not sorry.
White tea gets a lot of love too! I am particularly fond of silver needle whites.
I can’t seem to appreciate green teas and rooibos is foul, IMO.
