1886 Tasting Notes
The last couple days have been rough. I had a headache that lasted nearly 48 hours. My cat is sick and I’ve had to bring her back and forth to the vet multiple times over the last couple days (and spend $500 on tests/meds). Things seem to be looking up, though. My team at work was very supportive of me going home or an extended lunch to monitor my cats.
Anyway! To the tea! I’ve been anticipating this tea’s arrival since I saw the blog post go up. I love sweet potato, and brewed this up as a nice comforting treat, hoping it would cheer me up. It certainly has! It’s definitely not anything like Sweet Potato Pie by DavidsTea. This is a true starchy sweet potato, with just a hint of cinnamon. It is so wonderful and comforting.
Flavors: Cinnamon, Sweet Potatoes
Just got this in my 52Teas subscription, and had to brew it immediately, as I knew I was going to love the blend of favors. It definitely lives up to my expectations. The apricot is perfectly balanced with the light spice, and creamy custard flavor. It tastes like a spiced apricot custard tart, and I am so, so enjoying this cup. The nutmeg compliments the apricot flavor so well, and I’m happy to see that the apricot actually tastes like apricot.
Flavors: Apricot, Cream, Custard, Ginger, Nutmeg
Advent day 8! I had tried this tea a few years ago, and apparently didn’t care for it, but don’t remember that experience at all. This time around, I primarily got chicory and chocolate, with some nice tart raspberry. Chicory isn’t my favorite, but the raspberry balanced it out nicely.
Advent day 7! I’m a bit behind on some of my advent notes. But, was a welcome surprise in my advent from Inkling, as I don’t think I’ve tried a yellow tea before this one. It definitely has that nutty/peanut note that I see many others describing. A bit of a salty note, and mild vegetalness.
I received these for free with a recent order from Stash. A perfectly fine tea, but it’s nothing special. A very sharp cinnamon, which covers the rooibos flavor. Not much of a vanilla note. I’ll finish the box of bags that I got, but probably wouldn’t revisit this one.
A big thanks to Shae for sending this to me in our swap! I love marshmallow flavored teas, and this one is packed full of authentic toasty flavor. The blend of shou mei and houjicha was pleasantly roasted, and slightly vegetal. So lovely combined with the marshmallow flavor. It was so cozy and comforting, that I actually fell asleep holding the half full cup last night. Luckily, my boyfriend saw it happening and took it out of my hands before tea spilled everywhere.
Advent day 8! This tastes just like a cherry jolly rancher. Nice, tart cherries combined with almond and ginger. I don’t get much of a gingerbread note, it’s definitely more of a straight tart cherry. I really enjoy hibiscus, so found this cup delightful. I’d consider repurchasing it!
Flavors: Almond, Cherry, Ginger

Advent day 8! This is another Brutaliteas blend I’ve been wanting to try. Very glad to see it in the advent! The chocolate and cinnamon are most prevalent, but the orange is becoming more distinct as it cools. The rooibos is pretty much unnoticeable, with the pu-erh being a bit more at the forefront. Really enjoyable and well-balanced.
Flavors: Chocolate, Cinnamon, Orange
I’m so sorry you’ve had a rough couple of days! I hope your kitty is feeling better. I know that can be so stressful, not to mention expensive. Glad to hear you had a bit of comfort this evening. Hopefully the rest of the week gets better and better.
Feel better soon <3. The tea sounds really yummy.
