Tea of the Week for January 9, 2017!

My inspiration behind this flavor is simple: Roasted Marshmallows! I love toasted marshmallows and I thought that I might achieve a similar flavor if I used my organic roasted green tea as a base with marshmallow root, vanilla bean and natural flavors. So this blend started out as a purely Houjicha blend – however, after testing it and tweaking it a bit – I realized that my organic Houjicha tea needed to soften up around the edges just a tad so I added some organic Shou Mei to the blend.

The Shou Mei did the trick, folks! I still get lots of roasty-toasty flavor, but the vanilla marshmallow notes come through more clearly now. Initially, the sip reminds me more of the taste you’d get if you were to char a marshmallow – that first bite that’s a little more char than it is marshmallow but there’s still plenty of sweet creaminess to it. The houjicha is toasty and the vanilla and marshmallow add a wonderful, sweet dimension to the cup – the toasty flavor is the strongest note but the sweet creaminess lingers.

After this day’s parade of strong feisty black tea, I wanted something gentle and kind.

This fits the bill. Vanilla, marshmallow, gentle, and toasty.

Beautiful blend.

My day off, and I was looking for something sweet and cozy. This definitely fit the bill. Marshmallow and hojicha. Yum.

What is hojicha, I’ve never heard of it, but I keep seeing it now that I joined steepster.

Hojicha is a roasted green tea. The roasting removes any bitterness, and leaves the tea with a very distinct roasted flavor. It’s really comforting and wonderful. Highly recommend trying it!

It’s also low in caffeine! And delicious iced. :D

This tastes mostly like a toasted rice tea to me. It has a nice and light flavor but I don’t really taste the marshmallow. I like it…it’s just not what I expected.

This is an absolutely beautiful tea.

Don’t get the wrong impression from the name: this is not a sweet tea. Rather it is a beautiful mix of Shou Mei and Houjicha teas, with hints of marshmallow flavor.

The mix of white and green teas work perfectly, since the houjicha is a bit strong and roasted and the white is soft and smooth, the combination works perfectly. Not too strong to overwhelm the subtle vanilla, but with just enough rich toastyness to give it a ’toasted flavor.

Love it!

I may be the odd one out but I cannot get the toasted marshmallow flavour from this. This is mostly houjicha, which I love, all roasty and toasty, but on a much milder scale than I like, as well. There is a slight vegetal, soybean-like note from the Shou Mei. Maybe I didn’t add enough leaf? I’ll have to experiment further.

I had the same problem :(

Aww, I was kind of hoping it was just me and that it was actually flavourful for everyone else.

Finished this one off today – So many teas to drink and so little time! End of May will be here before i know it :) Even playing around with this tea, i couldn’t make it hit the sweet spot that others seemed to have found. It always felt like a creamy black tea. not a bad cup, but not what i’d like to see form 52 teas :)

I got some samples from 52teas via Kittenna who made a big order and allowed me to include some and she so kindly shipped them to me………. She’s the best!!

I’ve had all 4 so far, and now my problem is I LOVE THEM ALL BUT NONE ARE AVAILABLE TO BUY!?!? I’m soooooooooo sad.

I loved this one, and Rocky Road (which I could still buy a sample of), Something something velvet dusk (going to check that name, the vanilla lavender one), and Butterbeer.

Are they just gone forever and ever? Why must I fall in love with teas that are unavailable!? I was just going to make a purchase and then I was sad :(

This tea is so perfect, it’s everything I ever wanted in a marshmallow tea. Delicate, not fake tasting, I can still taste the base. WHY GOD WHY

Sil

that’s why i stopped buying from 52 teas for the most part. newsletter comes out in the morning, so by the time i get home and can purchase, the sizes i want are gone. If i do manage to score something, there isn’t anything else i can add to my cart to make shipping worth it. sigh makes me sad ‘cause there are a bunch i’d like

Cup from a second opened package of this, from the same batch. Quite tasty, just love the marshmallow on that toasted houjicha base.

Sipdown (286)

My first set of law school exams are quickly approaching and I should be studying…instead, yesterday I I made my typical make-ahead breakfast sandwiches, honey sriracha tofu which was amazing, and then a tofu stir fry which was terrible and got thrown out. Then I made rice to go with the tofu. Then a shepard’s pie and a kielbasa & sweet potato skillet. You know what I didn’t do yesterday? Study :(. Oops. Hopefully not having to cook through the week will balance out the not studying yesterday.

Anyways, this morning I woke up and have still not started studying. I made cinnamon rolls for breakfast and tea. Because we need tea. I reached for this one because it is another older tea that is an easy sipdown. I like it but the hojicha really pulls me out of the marshmallow-y deliciousness and so it is not my favorite. Given that’s the case, I am content saying goodbye at this time, even if that good bye is forever. Thankfully I still have The Vanilla Marshmallow around to get my marshmallow fix.

Good luck!
