From Della Terra Teas

One of the best things about sitting around a fire are of course, the S’mores! We’ve captured all that is amazing about a melty gooey S’more in this black tea! You’ll taste the familiar tastes of marshmallow, graham cracker and chocolate. So, even when you aren’t outside by a crackling campire you can enjoy the delicious taste of a S’more anytime!

Ingredients: Black tea, chocolate bits, chocolate flavor, mini marshmallows, marshmallow and graham flavoring, finely crushed graham crackers

Suggested brewing tips:

Serving Size: 1 level tsp./6oz serving

Water Temp: 210°F

Steep Time: 2- 3 minutes

I won this tea on Della Terra’s Facebook page along with two others, they are so generous with contests! I like being able to try small portions of teas before I commit to larger sizes, which is probably why my samples are very close to outnumbering my actual teas… I may have a serious problem!

This tea smells AMAZING in the bag. Marshmallow, chocolate, and even a whiff of graham cracker! I could sniff it all day long, just walk around with my nose in the bag. But tea is for drinking after all, so I reluctantly pulled away from it to brew up a cup. As I suspected, the flavor isn’t as POW as the smell, which I think happens a lot with teas. The black base is actually the strongest flavor, it’s quite brisk and malty. Next comes a soft creaminess with a distinct marshmallow flavor, not surprising since there are actual mini marshmallows in it! The chocolate is also strong, though it’s a very milky chocolate—like a Hershey’s bar, which is fitting since this is s’mores. However, I really love dark chocolate so I was kind of hoping for a bit more depth. Then again, that wouldn’t really be “s’mores” would it? The one thing missing for me is the graham cracker—I get a bit of cinnamon, but not that toasty flavor I expected.

This is definitely a boldly dessert-y tea, with no qualms about what it is. Creamy, sticky-sweet, milky, bordering on the edge of cloying without stepping over it. It’s pretty heavy for an everyday tea, but as an occasional treat I can definitely get behind it!

This was my second work tea of the day! I drank it at work, but was too busy the last hour as so to log it so I’m doing that now, from home. I picked it out this morning because I wanted black tea and because I wanted to drink down what I have given that it’s not going to be a restock and no one seems to be interested in swapping for it. It’s not that I dislike this tea – it’s just that I find nothing about it to be particularly amazing.

For preparation, I steeped 2 tsp. of leaf in my 12 oz. timolino with boiling water for three minutes. Taste wise, I got lots of chocolate and just a little bit of graham cracker. Not really any marshmallow. Maybe that’s because I was drinking it hot, though. This tea tends to taste a bit better when it’s at a slightly cooler temperature.

Also, when I got home I had to clean up a bunch of spilled Blueberry Jam that I had left to sit in a puddle this morning. That, combined with all my shed clothing lying around the kitchen and living room floor from my speedy change this morning (I had slept in and was a bit late for work) made for an interesting looking apartment coming home…

keychange

I’ve definitely left clothing strewn all over the house in an attempt to get dressed as quickly as possible. Just last week I wandered around the partment looking for a particular…undergarment (of the upper half variety), and was like oh yeah, it’s on the dining table!

what a perfect tea on a snowy day!!
i brewed it very short, cuz i’m trying to reduce my caffeine intake. and it’s still perfect.

i’m reading ‘Devil in the Details’ about an OCD girl and really i just wanna leave work and go read and then watch my whole hulu queue at once. you know what i’m talking about.

i am drinking my very last cup of this. I’ve obviously saved it for a long long time.
i love this tea. love.
but Della Terra no longer exists. so I’ve cradled the last scoop of tea like a frail baby bird for several years.
i’m drinking it now because I’ve realized my backlog of untasted teas is completely unmanageable! time to get real. xox

Bee

Now I want to grab a cuppa this and finish reading ‘Devil In The Details’ (which I started reading years ago and never finished). Thanks for the inspiration!

Shmiracles

oh wow! where did you stop? did it get dull?
really it’s about the humor. she makes her parents sound so funny hah! i’m almost half way.

Bee

…ok, I answered you much earlier but for some reason it didn’t post. Anywho. I didn’t find it dull, I had just gotten distracted by something else and added the book to my ever-growing mountain of books I’ve been meaning to read. But I’ve been mainlining Vanilla Orchid oolong tea and I’m determined to finish reading ‘Cloud Atlas’ and go back to ‘Devil In The Details’ tonight!

Shmiracles

Ah! Cloud Atlas was the second book I bought on my kindle but never got past the first chapter! We are like on the same ride, backwards. Hah I guess I should read Cloud Atlas next.

This one really smells like S’mores!
I put some mini mellows in my cup like a couple other steepsters did. It does make the cup just a little bit more creamy and like a hot chocolate.
The last cup of this was real murky from the all the stuff that fell through the steeper but it was the most tastiest cup for sure.
This is a perfect camping tea. It’s sweet and I like it!

I must say I’m impressed. I usually find Della Terra’s black base to be a bit weak, but this was truly great. The marshmallow flavor is the most prominent, but I also taste hints of graham cracker and chocolate. I may just have to order some of this in the future!

Marshmallow Monday?

DRY: mmm! This tea smells just like brownies! Very close to smore brownies I make! http://joythebaker.com/2009/04/smores-brownies/#
Lots of bits in this tea – need to do a good bag shuffle to ensure you get all the little bits!

STEEPED: Light brown tea, smells chocolate liquor like and roasty. The marshmallows dissolved too!

TASTE: Perky bold black tea up front. Graham flavor pops up clearly to me. Chocolate and toasty flavors swings in some sips. Marshmallow sweet aftertaste. The black tea is kinda bitter to me – maybe a shorter steep or lower temp might help out there.
Sweetened, the chocolate comes out more and the black tea tastes quite roasty. Slightly cooled, the sip tastes just like smores on some sips – best flavor!

COMMENTS: Hmmm, I love this tea but some parts I dislike – not sure if I’m liking the black tea used here or maybe I need do adjust the steeping times. However, this one has to be the best black tea/smorey marshmallow tea I’ve tried so far.

How in the world do they do it?

How is it that a tea can taste just like a toasty marshmallow with chocolate, stuffed between two crumbly graham cracker squares?

Believe it or not, Della Terra’s done it again. And it is just divine on all levels. I was craving a chocolate tea and decided to go with this one – I am not disappointed at all. Not one bit. Man I love this company.

I’m just starting to delve into the interestingness that is Della Terra! This sounds really good. Maybe I’ll snag a sample in my next order. :)

Thanks so much Azzrain for this sample! Gosh this is good. I love the sweet graham cracker taste you get at the end. This would be perfect tea to warm yourself up while sitting near a camp fire .

Claire

This sounds so delicious but crushed graham crackers mean it’s not gluten free. So sad!

Cedes

Hasn’t made me sick yet, so far so good.

Claire

Let me know how it goes! I forgot you were gluten free too.

Cedes

Yup felt completley fine. Maybe cause its in such a low amount.

Okay, so I won this on a Della Terra facebook giveaway (they’re so generous, it’s fantastic!). Immediately upon opening the bag I was blown away. How did they so perfectly capture the scent of a s’more? I’m getting really strong graham and marshmallow, which is fantastic. It reminds me of something from my childhood, and I can’t quite remember what…some sort of candy bar maybe? I don’t think I’ve ever had a tea that is more spot on with the flavor they claim to be replicating. I’m upset with myself for waiting so long to try this. Della Terra, you rock my world.

Babble

I love their giveaways! They are so generous and it’s a great way to try the teas. They rock!

Rebecca Lynn

I know! I feel so much more likely to buy from them now. And I like this tea so much that I can see myself having in my like, permanent tea line-up.

Nik

Now that’s what I call an endorsement! =) I think I have this one somewhere in my unopened stash; if not, I’d better add it to my shopping list. =)

CHAroma

Went to add it to the shopping list and it was already there!

Dang it, this tea is not doing it for me. I’m rarely the odd man out so I’m wondering why it is so with this tea.

Dry, the leaf smells great. It also looks moist. Like chocolate cake crumbs or something. I see the marshmallows in the dry leaf and I also see them floating in my steeper as I wait for it to steep but the base is quite strong and it’s not coming close to s’mores in flavour for me. I get marshmallow aftertaste and as the cup is sitting next to me I get the nice aroma wafting up at me but the taste is lacking.

I have 2 oz so I’ll play around, maybe I overstepped, maybe I overleafed (although other notes say it is too weak if you just use the 1tsp for 6 oz) at one perfect scoop for 8 oz. I added sugar only so aside from sweetening there is nothing to take away from the tea’s flavour.

Everyone is raving about this tea and it sounded so so good. Gonna rate next time around, see if I can make it work.

Can’t STAND that one, the smell makes my stomach turn. Same with 8 candles, but I know that’s also a very popular one, so it’s probably me!

VariaTEA

I was not a huge fan at first but I ended up mixing it with DAVIDs Toasted Marshmallow and that helped

Fjellrev

I used to absolutely love this one but after 50g or so, I got really sick of it, and it was a huge chore to finish the other 50g I purchased during my S’mores craze. So looks like you’re not alone!

Tuscanteal

I kind of feel like with S’Mores in general… you go camping, you bring your chocolate, marshmellows and graham and you go nuts for your 3-4 day camping trip. Then you go home never wanting to see another marshmellow again, until the next time you go camping or are by a fire.
