545 Tasting Notes

My second time drinking this one. I liked it quite a bit the first time. And quite a bit this time as well. A solid bagged tropical flavored rooibos. I’ll pick apart which topical flavors I can taste next time I drink it as I was mindlessly drinking it tonight and it’s very late now and I can’t remember.

So, I’ve been doing this thing lately with well, any non-black bagged tea. I’ll leave the bag in as I sip it down and the tea cools some, I’ll top of the last inch with more hot warm. Usually I can do this twice before I notice that the tea will start becoming too weak. It both keeps my tea warm longer and gives me more tea. And uses up the last bit of water left in the new electric kettle, which I don’t leave water in when not using, which is prolly why I started doing this.

The next time I drink it, I’ll be more aware of the topical flavours I can detect because tonight I was drinking it mindlessly and it’s late and I can’t remember what they were.

Okay so, I had planned to eat a very late breakfast of warm buttered banana bread and thought this tea would make a delightful accompaniment. After I’d already put my new variable temp kettle on to heat and portioned the tea out into the steeper, I decided I would rather eat the salad I’d be planning on having later then. (Romaine and spinach, orange bell pepper, sun-dried tomato, rosymary ham, sharp white cheddar, and balsamic vinaigrette, in case you were wondering.)

So I ended up eating my salad, drinking half my mug of tea, heating up some soup because it wasn’t a large salad and I was still hungry, eating that, and then drinking the rest of my mug of tea.

I made a second steep which I didn’t end up drinking this afternoon and will heat up and have in the morning.

I currently have a cup of Numi’s African Nectar, a tropical flavored rooibos, steeping up on my desk and it smells so good.

Grumpy. Blinking sleep from my eyes.

I’d made a small pot of this mid-afternoon yesterday. I’d resteeped the leaves directly after I finished it then. But didn’t drink the second pot then. I’m drinking it now. In a large mug. B/c I need to get caffeine into me. Also, it’s a good cup. =)

In other tea-related news. I got a variable temperature kettle [http://www.amazon.com/Bonavita-Variable-Temperature-Electric-Gooseneck/dp/B005YR0F40/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top] for Xmas from my parents. I luvs it !!

A bit back, my mom and I placed a Harney order to keep at her place and we got a tagalong tin of this tea in sachets because they were out of normal-size tins of it in sachets and she had wanted to try it and we were trying to meet the amount needed for free shipping. She tried it yesterday and said the flavors were very light and so was the tea base but she could taste both the cranberry and orange.

When I steeped mine this morning, I noticed that the tin said it was a ceylon base tea so I am thinking that’s why she thought so. I found it an enjoyable cup, similar to Harney’s Boston Blend but different. I could taste the cranberry more but also the orange, which was like a tart orange rind effect rather than orange juice or orange candy.

Did you just change your name? ;-) I got all confused…

I ♥ NewYorkCiTEA

LOL I just did it today when I updated my profile. Figured I’d jump on the name change bandwagon. ;) I’m not 100% sure I’m keeping this one but I think I am. But I’m waiting to post until I’m sure (IE tomorrow) b/c I don’t wanna change than change again. #indecisivemuch But I’m back posting I think now, instead of just loitering and reading. Sharp eye for catching it so quickly !

I saw the avatar and went-whoa, who is using Chrine’s teacup? And then I went to your log and realized it was you. I vote for keeping the name. I love NYC also-lived there for a lot of years and miss it terribly.

The August Tealog Catchup ! [23 tealogs remaining]

This tea was noticeable worse than Liptons to me. I don’t know why my Dad got this instead of his usual Liptons that is all he always drinks. Maybe they were out. I finished my cup but I decided not to drink it again anymore.

The August Tealog Catchup ! [24 tealogs remaining]

My Mom brought this one on her own which is a little bit odd considering she really only drinks black teas with the occasional green tea. But I like vanilla and I like rooibos so I’ll go with it.

Steeped up in a large mug for the maximum recommended time, I get vanilla and rooibos but nothing, you know, stellar. It’s a nice solid cup for before bed and I’m glad to add it to my nighttime rotation there. Since I finished off the Mandarin Green Tea last time I was out here, I’ll need to be getting a few more of non-black teas to add to it.

I steeped the other half of my sample in a 10oz mug and it came out not watery at all and it was nice. Unlike last time, I did not set a timer on the second steep (since it has hibiscus) and just put it on to steep and walked away as I’m prone to do on my 2nd/last steeps of a tea and it was crazy tart but oddly appealing.

I do not think this is something I’d buy but if/since I got some to try, it is something I could easily drink.

The August Tealog Catchup ! (Totally did not finish the August tealogging in August. Ofc things got busy!) [28 tealogs remaining]

This was the last of my Caravan. It’s not something I could drink every day, but when I wanted it, I wanted it. I’m sad to see it gone. But thankfully, there is a sequel (Caravan Resurrected), which I will be next trying out. Though, I may wait a month or so until the weather cools. This is not really a summery tea and as it’s very hot out here still, I’m not drinking a ton of tea period either.

Plus there is the dilemma of the A&D three packs. I do not need an Assam or a black blend at the moment, but you basically get the third tea for $8 instead of $20. I may be able to push it off until I finish Captain Assam then order the other three pack instead. I will not be finishing off my black blends or Earl Grey anytime remotely soon, despite the fact that I’ve been iced tea-ing the Earl Grey this summer. (Thanks mom for not understanding that 8oz is a lot of loose leaf tea! Though seriously, I love when she gifts me tea. I give her/her house tea too.)

Alright, so I’m still happy with my rating for this one ultimately. It was a great tea! And yes, as stated above, I want and will be buying more of this one.

2nd steep.

I’ve drank tea all my life but about five to six years ago, my close friend Spautz got into tea and got me more into tea. I drink black teas and tisanes/herbals most. Since receiving a variable temperature kettle from my parents for Xmas this past year, I’ve been drinking more greens, oolongs, and whites. I’m very very new to puerh. That is, I’ve had only one.
