From DAVIDsTEA

There’s nothing more nostalgic than a coconut macaroon. We’re not talking about the super-trendy French cookies here…for us, it’s all about the bake sale classic: chewy, golden coconut cookies dipped in rich dark chocolate. And with black tea, toasted coconut, cacao nibs, pecans and rock sugar, this rich, nutty blend is just as good as the real thing. The only difference? You don’t have to wait for a bake sale to get a taste.

Ingredients: Black tea, toasted coconut, coconut, pecans, cacao nibs, rock cane sugar, natural flavouring.
Contains pecans and coconut.

This is mostly coconut and cocoa and sweetness and I’m ok with that. It’s not the fanciest tea. But it’s relaxing and this feels like a treat.

So much coconut.
I find that coconut in tea makes me think of warm butter. Odd, but tasty.

keychange

Yup, I find this tea to be generally comforting and uncomplicated as well.

TeaLady441

Man, that’s just exactly what I need sometimes too.

I tried this tea at the mall when going for a job interview on the weekend. I absolutely loved it! So nutty and creamy and chocolatey…reminds me a lot of Choconut Oolong actually.

I did end up landing the job, by the way. I now work at a chocolaterie and I love every minute. However, after work yesterday stupid me went into my local Davids and bought this on a whim without really looking at what was in it. The fact that there’s sugar in this really pisses me off. Is there really any need to pre-add sugar into their teas? What the hell?

Thus, why it gets a 50. I don’t appreciate being tricked into consuming sugar.

TeaBrat

congratulations!

Yvonne

Thanks :)

Indigobloom

congrats!

caile

Congratulations!

Dustin

Maybe they are trying to follow Teavana’s lead with those god awful samarai chai rock sugar samples they push on you with every order. :/
Congrats on landing the job! It’s great to do something you love for work!

Yvonne

I wouldn’t doubt it. I hate it when companies try to cram things down your throat. I hope this isn’t a trend for DT.
Thanks guys :)

Grats on the job!

I’m not a big fan of David’s teas, but I do love their accessories! When I went in today to get a travel mug, I sniffed a few teas and went home with some samples. It seemed only fitting to christen my new Davids mug with one of their offerings. I didn’t read the ingredients and thought that the chunks in the tea were dried fruit. Glad I tasted it before adding sugar since the chunks were really sugar. It is adequately sweetened for me, but I prefer to sweeten my own tea or have the option to go without.

The first sip I took out of my mug burnt my lip, bummer, but a good testament to the mug’s ability. It smells chocolatey and I get a really nice chocolate coconut taste, but there is an odd flavor to it that I dislike. It is almost like that stevia bite that I hate so much. I don’t know what to make of it. I really want to love it, but I’m just not there. There are a few more cups worth in the sample I bought, so we will see if I make friends with this tea over time.

(I did 4m at boiling) …note to self. :)

Brooklynsheep

I agree with you about stevia! There is a sort of metallic edge to it, in my palate’s opinion.

Dustin

I hadn’t thought of it as metallic before, but I’ll have to keep that in mind next time I have some! I really wish I could like it, but it’s not going to happen.

Stephanie

Samesies, hate stevia, like DT accessories but not so much the teas.

This one came in a swap from whatshesaid.

The dry scent was overwhelmingly sweet. Almost to the point of sickening. I picked out 4 chunks of rock sugar.

The sweet scent was significantly diminished once steeped. The tea has a thin feel with a primarily coconut and nut flavour. Very little in the way of chocolate. This one actually ended up being somewhat tasty, albeit a bit thin.

Thanks for sharing whatshesaid!

i like the smell of this one, but dont like the taste of it at all!

Tried this in the store. While I did the like the chocolate/ nut/ coconut combo, I didn’t really care for the extra sugar. It would be fine as chocolate nut blend.

LOVE this tea!!! I went to the mall a few weeks ago and got a to-go cup to sip on while doing my shopping. After LOVING this tea so much, I stopped by DT again before leaving to pick up another to-go cup for the drive home and a 50g bag to bring home (where I made yet ANOTHER cup of the tea). This tea is super creamy and chocolatey. I would definitely recommend a longer steeping time for this as at first it was slightly bitter. I’ve now had this tea several times and that has been the case for each sipdown. I will be picking up a full tin once I run out and strongly recommend you do the same. This one became an instant favourite!

I really like this tea. The smell of the leaves is just decadent and totally reminiscent of gooey coconut macaroons we used to make when I was young. Brewed up, the coconut is the dominant flavour, with a nice malty chocolate note backing it up. I found that there is definitely enough rock sugar to lend a sweet note to the tea, but I think I will still toss in a bit of extra sugar in my next cup. I think macaroons are so gooey and decadent, it begs to be super sweet. Overall, I am thrilled this is new to the line up, I think I could become addicted rather quickly!

This is a pretty good tea, but it tastes just a bit muddy…not enough distinction between the different tastes that are stated to be in the tea. Yes there is chocolate, coconut and a nutty kinda pecan taste…but all muddled together. I would have it again for sure, but only if offered by someone else, not for my cupboard.

Even though I am very picky about my chocolate teas now (I find they’re almost all too sweet for my liking), I knew I had to try this one the next time I went to my DT. And it was good (I had milk in mine), I’m glad I tried it, but I don’t know if it’s one I’ll be rushing to get more of.

A couple of cups on the way to work. When I left, it was hot, but the last 0.75 cup or so has cooled now, and it still tastes great.
