From DAVIDsTEA

Picture parfait

The ancient Chinese used it in medicine. The medieval Europeans traded for it along the Silk Road. And today we love it in pies, sauces, muffins or just plain, dipped in a little sugar. But the best way to eat rhubarb is with sweet, ripe strawberries. Like in this refreshingly fruity, deep red tisane. It tastes as bright and juicy as a fresh-picked berry, with a tart rhubarb punch and a subtle hint of yogurt creaminess. We love it hot or iced, or as the base for sweet, zippy sangria. Now that’s a beautiful thing. Caffeine-free.

Ingredients: Apple, hibiscus, raisins, carrot, yogurt bits, beetroot, strawberry, rhubarb, artificial flavouring*.

Allergens: dairy

I used to love this stuff when I first started on Steepster almost a year ago. Now I think it’s just o.k., nothing special. There are way better caffeine free options out there. This one is just another tart tisane…seems like one in a million. I’m glad I’m finishing this off today; and I have no plans to repurchase this one. Reducing my rating.

JustJames

funny how everything changes the more we learn and try, isn’t it?

scribbles

I started with Teavana & Davids, and I will not give up on them; however I agree, in a couple of short months I’ve discovered my tastes have changed significantly.

Sweet Canadian

It’s funny, I felt the opposite way. I wasn’t impressed with this one, and now I am obsessed with it.

canadianadia

It’s funny, reading back on my logs for this tea, my impressions seem to be greatly varied. I suppose a lot of it depends on my mood and perhaps on what comes out in the scoop? I think this is a good tisane if I’m in the mood for something tart, but there are just so may tart herbal teas out there, that the more I try, the less they make an impression on me.

CHAroma

What are your favorite caffeine-free teas?

canadianadia

That’s a good question CHAroma. Depending on my mood some of my favorites include 52teas Chocolate Malt Honeybush (particularly for the colder months. this tastes best if I make it a little strong)
52teas – any of their strawberry based Honeybush blends
DAVIDs Tea Peppermint Amour
52teas Pina Colada Honeybush
I also drink a lot of Davids tea super organic ginger and cold 911 but that’s more because I chronically get sore throats

CHAroma

Cool, thanks! I’m not much of a rooibos or honeybush fan, so it’s usually hard to find good caffeine-free teas that I like. Sometimes it sucks being picky. LOL!

First cold brew in my Mason Jar mug. It was so easy to just pull out the infuser when the tea was ready. I honestly love this teaware.

As for the tea, nothing new to report. It is rhubarb tart with a hint of strawberry sweetness and a delicious custard creaminess. Yum!

Ok, so I was pretty skeptical of this tea. Mostly because bleh, hibiscus. But hey, it’s supposed to be Strawberry Rhubarb, so the tartness should be appropriate, and I like teas with the creaminess of yogurt, so all hope is not lost!

The dry tea smells, to me, exactly like a strawberry Campino candy! Delicious delicious DELICIOUS! I’m so excited! Although guaranteed it won’t taste quite like that since there is hibiscus, but if the strawberry and yogurt come through…!

Steeped, it smells a bit more like realistic strawberries and some tartness, but as it’s cold, there’s not a ton of aroma.

I was very conservative with the infusion time so as not to end up with a mouthful of blechy hibiscus (it worked earlier today for me – I had quite a lovely cup of Paradise Found, which I apparently neglected to log)… and I think I was successful! There are lots of little yogurty floaties, a consequence of the tea cooling, but I can deal with that. I am quite shocked at how well the hibiscus works here though! The tartness pairs perfectly with the very much realistic strawberry flavour, and with the creaminess, I can actually imagine myself to be eating, say, plain yogurt with a lightly sweetened topping of strawberries/rhubarb! Delicious! I imagine that this tea would be absolutely glorious sweetened, but I shan’t ruin it for myself by doing that.

Add another to the potential re-buy list… this one’s pretty good!

ETA: I’m impressed! I re-steeped this one in half the water, and paid no real attention to infusion time, and actually got quite a nice second cup! Surprising because of both the hibiscus and the fact that it’s a herbal! Again, it was a tart drink, but fresh strawberry tart, not hibiscus tart. Not as creamy, of course, but I’d make the effort to use these leaves a second time. Also, I’m kind of sad that pretty much all the new teas were misses for me, or at least, not teas that I’ll miss when the season’s out. Luckily, this one’s the TOTM and I think therefore staying on as permanent, which is awesome!

That is good to know that the hibiscus isn’t too overpowering. I might pick some of this up now that I know that. Thanks!

Kittenna

Don’t get me wrong, it’s tart. But it works here, and you can definitely taste the strawberry and creaminess, not just hibiscus. It came off moreso to me as an unsweetened fresh fruit sort of tart.

Daniel Scott

You had the same reaction as me! THIS is how you blend hibiscus! It really works with rhubarb and a genuine tart strawberry flavour.

I too have been conservative with the steeping times on this one. Even at 4 minutes, I found it slightly tarter than the one they gave me in the store, which really makes me wonder either a) how much agave they put in mine, or b) if they’re only giving it 3 minutes in the store, despite the steeping directions on it.

Raritea

I just wanted to add that I agree about how the hibiscus was blended. I was incredibly surprised at how balanced all the flavours are in this tea!

Sil

This is the only tea dt’s has had recently that I’d like to try…. Hmmmm

Wow.

This tea totally took me by surprise and bowled me over!
I’m getting sweet sugary strawberry, a bunch of tart rhubarb and buttery crumbly crust goodness.

It smells and tastes exactly like a strawberry rhubarb pie or crumble, and there is a hint of creaminess like a big scoop of ice cream is plopped on top and melting into a sweet gooey amazing delicious mess.

AMAZING herbal tea, I am taken aback!

Meg

I was wondering about this one – I love strawberry rhubarb anything (we recently made strawberry rhubarb sorbet…soo good!) and didn’t want to be disappointed! Might have to give it a try!

Sil

aaaaah! another great review on this tea. I may just have to break down and get some.

Bonnie

This seems to be the one that everyone likes so far.

Plunkybug

Did you find it slightly floral at all?

katgolik

I cannot wait to try this now!!It’s coming in the mail shortly..not soon enough!

Daisy Chubb

Oh Meg you will not be disappointed – it’s true to the name! I added a bit of sugar to the last of the pot and AH – PERFECT.

I didn’t find it floral, but I don’t have a high floral sensitivity so I might not be the best judge Heather :)

Daisy Chubb

I can’t drink a lot of this tea at one time, it’s pretty rich. Kind of like I can’t have too much strawberry rhubarb crisp at one time either haha

Sipdown?

Argggg! This went fast! Me and fruity herbals that I use for iced tea just don’t last long. I drink them faster than I can review the new ones!

I made this one really strong – it was that or 2 weak cups – with german rock sugar and honey. Soo strawberry, little tart and creamy. I might have to get this one again if I do another DavidsTea order. However, I could see myself passing and trying DT’s 2013 new summer herbals lineup instead.

I did a good job choosing teas. Or you guys all do a fantastic job of reviewing them, so I know exactly what I’m ordering.

This is another win. I love the tartness and sweetness, and the creaminess from the yogurt is amazing. It seriously tastes like I am drinking a big mug of strawberry rhubarb pie. I will enjoy the shit out of my 50g bag of this.

Can I say ‘shit’ on here? I tend to be somewhat inappropriate…

Nobody banned you so it’s all good lol ;)

jessiwrites

Haha, good! I don’t know what I’d do if I was banned from steepster. None of my real-life friends care what teas I’m drinking on a daily basis. :P

Not everyone in the world can be as cool as us ;P

Right? I’d be so sad without steepster. <3

Daisy Chubb

mmm sad to see it go! So sweet and tart and juicy!

Ysaurella

if you like strawberry + rhubarb, may I suggest you to try Thé du Hammam black leaf (Palais des thés) and Jardin Bleu (Dammann frères) both are black teas. the one from PDT is a keemun and is very smooth and sweet.

Not really related to this tea, more lamentation about tea below

Sooo…I should probably look at joining the tea hiatus group lol. Mom came over for a visit and wanted to take me to DAVIDsTEA…hahaha, of course I can’t say no! So we went, and she stocked up on a crazy amount of tea, she actually paid the same as me for hers, but she got larger quantities of some favorites :D so that was good, and I got a bunch of tea..and an iced tea mug..and mom got me a pitcher, she wanted to get me a gongfu pot but I already have that haha. So yes, NO MORE BUYING TEA/TEA THINGS! /my verdant order(s) are at the post office as well haha.

ANYWAYS..ONTO THE TEA

I just had to try some of this. I recall seeing a whole bunch of notes on this a few months ago, and I was like hmm that looks good, but it somehow slipped my visits for quite a while. I saw it today though, and smelled it, and man is it ever strawberry and rhubarb! My mom even thought it smelled like a rhubarb pie, and she makes an EPIC rhubarb pie. So yes, I got apparently 18 g of this tea haha, and I might have to get more.

I steeped it for around 6 minutes with boiling water, and omggoodnesss, this creamy, delicious scent is wafting up. Even after it cools, it still smells just SO CREAMY. The flavor is excellent. A perfect balance of sweet and tart, and it does pretty good with the flavoring too, which I am surprised with. I think you could actually pretty closely discern the rhubarb not knowing what it is supposed to be!

Overall, I am super pleased that I finally remembered to try some of this. It is a lovely treat that smells super sweet, but actually is very nice. Yay for good tea, and caffeine free tea before bed too! :D

It totally doesn’t count if someone else buys it for you. It’s really like you got no new tea at all. :)

mrs.stenhouse12

Haha but mom didn’t buy any of my teas really, she just got me my giant pitcher :P so that one doesn’t count, and I’ll say the rest only half count, as it was her idea to go to the store. :D

received this in a swap from nwolf

if anyone could see me right now theyd think I was nuts, sitting here with my nose in the cupand my eyes closed… and yea my mouth is watering from the amazing smell.
this smells so much like strawberry rhubarb pie it’s freaky.
I can taste delicious tart rhubarb & sweet juicy strawberry. Not getting any parfait taste or pie taste, but pure pie filling. ermahgerd!! so freaking good.

I wonder what this would taste like mixed with Della Terra’s Oatmeal rasin cookie. that may give it the bakeyness needed to taste pie. maybe the next one.
