drank Pineapple Oolong by DAVIDsTEA

First test for my new baby- my Breville Tea Maker! Happy Birthday from my grandma! I am a truly spoiled grandchild :D

I wanted to start out with a tea that I could brew a bunch of times in one day, just to test it out! And I have to say I am impressed (both with the tea and the tea maker)! Its a lot of fun to watch it drop in the basket and take it out when the timer runs out!

The tea is goooodddd! A great blend of pineapple goodness and earthy oolong. Third steep was the best, leaves fully unfurled in the basket. Surprisingly the pineapple stood up well to multiple steeps, I was concerned that it wouldn’t.

drank Guava Cadabra by DAVIDsTEA

A lovely balance of guav-y goodness and tartness from the hibiscus. The bright pink colour is a lot of fun and the smell is intoxicating, but nothing super special when hot brewed. Definitely will be trying it iced though!

WAY better iced!

drank Kokomo Green by DAVIDsTEA

So I was forwarned by the girl at DAVIDs that this was a quick steep, so I followed her advice and only steeped it for 2 minutes in 80 degree water. It turned out really well, so I guess I found the secret!

The perfect green for summer, tropical and light! Nothing super special but it is a lovely blend that I intend to try both iced and cold brewed! The papaya and mango are stars for me in this one!

drank Honeydew Mate by DAVIDsTEA

So by the time I arrived back in the country, all of the Spring collection was gone :( Except this one! Which was awesome, because this one is the one that I was truly excited to try! I love mate with all of my heart, it is likely me favourite kind of “tea” even though its not even technically tea at all!

I was so excited that DAVIDs released another fruity mate blend, because Simply the Zest had become a daily staple but every once and a while, a girl just wants to mix it up!

And here are my prayers answered, I love it! It smells and tastes exactly like honeydew melon- a lovely summery and refreshing taste. 2nd steep was just as fantastic, could probably have gone for a third!

I gave it 100 last summer for its cold brew and hot deliciousness, and I retain it this summer for its iced amazingness!

Just seriously yum. No other description necessary!

drank Coconut Grove by DAVIDsTEA

As you may have guessed by my string of reviews, I am back in Canada and have made a trip to DAVIDs for the summer collection! Hello bliss!

Iced: Deliciously coconutty. I am loving all of the coconut in the summer collection! This one is basically all coconut, rounded out nicely by a gentle white base.

Hot: Yum, this definitely makes me thing of coconut macaroons! Fruity aftertaste is pleasant but a tad strange given the lack of fruit- must be the vanilla coconut combination! Light and easy summer sipping. I am usually not partial to whites but I really enjoy this blend and find it worth the money for a white! 2nd steep was just as delish!

drank Mint Julep by DAVIDsTEA

Iced: For some reason this tea has a definite chocolate flavour for me iced, which is strange given the lack of chocolate… Maybe the coconut? Mint is definitely stronger in the iced version, nice and refreshing, but the mint tastes somewhat artificial here.

Hot: Smell is a deep fruit mint, remarkably smooth taste with flavours that complement each other very well, and none that stand out. Cloying coconut-mint aftertaste is delightful. The hint of pineapple is a nice refreshing touch for summer and I love the black/ rooibos blend! 2nd steep still flavourful, but individual flavours, especially the mint, stand out more.

Iced: Pow! Definitely bursting with flavour! Refreshingly tart from the hibiscus, didn’t specifically taste the passionfruit, but it was a delicious fruity blend with an amazing hot pink colour! If you want this solely for the passionfruit, I am not sure it will live up to expectations, but it is enjoyable nonetheless!

Hot: Well this one got the stamp of approval from my tea hating sister but failed to impress me. More sour than I was expecting- hibicus strikes again. I don’t dislike hibiscus, but I am a little picky in terms of what is blended with, and it does overwhelm the passionfruit for me in this one. I also get a lot of apple and orange, which I know is strange as there isn’t any orange in it… Stood up well to its second steep.

Iced: Made this myself and also had it as the tea of the day at DAVIDs, both times I found it somewhat weak, despite using almost all 25grams for 1 tumbler of Iced Tea (the DAVIDs leak proof iced tea tumbler, my latest tea accessory and a much loved one!). I love mango smoothies, but this isn’t the mango taste I am used to, I found it somewhat overwhelmed by the tangerine. But it was indeed pleasant and fruity and grew on me as I drank!

Hot: Definitely need less to make a hot cup with equal flavour. Smell is intoxicating, as is the taste. Mango comes through stronger here, complemented nicely by the tangerine. Lots of little powder pieces on top of the brew- not very appealing but don’t do too much to mar the taste. Overall, yummy but no magic.

So I was wandering around London and I came across the original Twinings merchant store, from 1706! Inside they have a little bit of a museum and of course a fairly awesome store, and the tea lover in me was in heaven! Even though I don’t usually drink Twinings, I can recognize their importance in tea’s history!
Anyway, in all honesty, I bought this one because it comes in such a pretty tin, and I really like pretty tins…I wasn’t expecting to be a huge fan as I rarely am of blacks that are not super fruity or super chocolatey, but in my loose-leave deprived state I got a lot of enjoyment out of this cup! It is a mild and smooth black with a yummy malty finish. No astringency (which I can’t stand in a black), just good old yummy tea!
