I’m a sucker for anything Sherlock Holmes, so when I saw this tea I had to have it! I bought 100g without thinking (I have A LOT of tea to get through right now), but fortunately it is wonderful! It’s deep and smoky and bold. I oversteeped because I got distracted, so it’s a touch on the bitter/strong side, but that actually works nicely with the flavours. I’m just adoring the smokiness of it! It reminds me of dusty books and pipe tobacco and vintage coats. Kind of what Holmes would smell like, I presume!

drank Sunny Citrus by DAVIDsTEA

I picked up 10g of this today to see if there was any reason I needed it in addition to all of the Pink Flamingo I already have. Begrudgingly, yes. Yes I do. Sunny Citrus is like Pink Flamingo’s sultry bombshell of a cousin. It’s got all the same wonderful tart, sour citrus I love, with the added richness of vanilla to make it a little more complex and thick-tasting. As an added bonus, the aroma of the vanilla wafts about the cup, making the air around it smell divine!

I still think Pink Flamingo has my heart in this category, with a bit brighter and more sour flavour, but I do believe I should have both, because, as it is said, too much of a good thing is wonderful.

Meh. I tried a sample of this in-store today, and it was sadly underwhelming. I had wanted to pick up some of all the spring teas from David’s, but I thought it was fortuitous that they were sampling this one today, as I could just try it first. Good thing! It’s definitely not a bad tea, but I just found it completely unremarkable. It was somewhat floral, a little sweet, and a hint of bitter, but nothing really to give it a unique character. I would happily drink a cup of it, if offered one, but I wouldn’t choose it over anything else I already have, so I guess I’ll be giving it a pass. (Which is nice, cos it ain’t cheap!)

Mmm, I tried this as a sample in-store today, and it was divine! It has a wonderfully sweet, fruity taste without being sugary. My friend actually had to ask if there was any sweetener added. It’s nice and refreshing, and our sales rep said it’s one of her favourites as an iced tea. I’ll definitely be picking some up for summer!

drank Melon Drop by DAVIDsTEA

I decided to get a cup of this as an iced tea at work last week when I was craving something sweet, and it totally did the trick. It’s marvellously refreshing and sweet enough to feel like a treat without being cloying or sugary. I found it completely delicious, and will definitely be getting some for summer iced teas. And yeah, I totally thought it was cantaloupe until I looked it up, later…oops. ;)

I tried a sample of this in-store last week and I can’t wait to buy some for myself. Just need to decide how much to get. It was so juicy and fruity and peachy delicious; I instantly fell in love.

I love a good Earl Grey, and picking one up in Oxford seemed like a no-brainer. I didn’t expect there to be so many varieties, though! Regular, breakfast, afternoon, and flavoured varieties abound! I finally decided on the breakfast variety, as I hadn’t seen it in Canada anywhere, and I really only drink black tea in the morning. Well, this was a good choice! This is an Earl Grey that will punch you in the mouth, and you’ll like it! It’s a lovely blend of black teas, and it’s got that great aroma of bergamot to sweeten the deal. I’m really happy I decided to try this blend. It’s good and strong and has lots of personality.

Another purchase from my trip to Oxford. The dry leaf here smells like…intoxicating, really. It’s got a strong chocolate liquor aroma with heady dark tea blended in. There was no way I could leave without it! Unfortunately, the brew was less impressive. I got very little chocolate in the mouth, and the tea flavour was not terribly remarkable or special. It was just a bit boring, which is sad. I have 100g, so it has many future opportunities to change my mind, but the first try was not a great one.

Bio

I live in Toronto, Canada, land of the fiercely intense, but short, summer, and absurdly long, equally fierce, cold autumn/winter/spring. Tea, coffee, soup, stew, chilli, mulled wine, and hot cider are staples here for a good part of the year.

Currently, I’m really digging plain black tea, chocolate and caramel accented black teas, and chais. I’m not into super grassy teas, but I like a good, smoky jasmine green. I’m told I should try some lapsang and pu’erh, which I intend to do, but I’m hella lazy. One of these days!

I live with one (very loud) Siamese cat, one (floppy-eared and goofy) Doberman Pinscher, and one (somewhat introverted and stoic) man who indulges me shamelessly. I’m pretty lucky. :)
