Mom's Apple Pie

I’ve become addicted to this. So perfect for autumn. I’ve got to hurry up and place a new order for more of this and Pumpkin Chai. Good tea makes the seasons so much more enjoyable. :)
I just made a big pot of creamy soup. Now to bake some pumpkin butterscotch muffins! I’m going to start a cooking blog soon. I have so many yummy recipes to share.

This is my first David’s tea and I was a little curious to know how apples and cinnamon would work on a green tea base.

It works perfectly well, I can get every flavor : the crisp of the pie, the cinnamon, the apples. It it really yummy.

As a French, I have to confess the apple pie is not a childhood reference for me. For apple cake reference,we are more on tarte tatin or simple tarte aux pommes here – and there is no cinnamon in Tarte Tatin and sometimes but rarely in a Tarte aux pommes.
So none nostalgia about the Mom’s cake (however my Mom was and is still a awful pastry cooker ! She makes nice salted meals but not desserts at all)

I appreciate the pastry taste of this tea, it is not only an heavy apple & cinnamon flavors.

The thing I liked less with this blend is the tea itself, I cannot really get the tea base.
To me it tastes more like a tisane than a tea. The good point is there is no astringency, no bitterness at all but I would have loved to get the tea base more present.

Despite this point, I really liked it but it seems this blend is discontinued ?

Oh wow! Yum! This is great! I don’t know why this tea has received mediocre reviews. The brewed aroma is very reminiscent of apple pie: the buttery cinnamon apple filling and the flaky pie crust. The taste is uber delicious! It’s not exactly like apple pie, but this is tea. It can’t be exactly like apple pie or that’s what it’d be! This is the next best thing and waaaaay fewer calories.

I added a little sweetener (gasp! I know!) and it did bring the flavor profile closer to sugary pie goodness and less like apple flavored green tea. I’m really enjoying this! In fact, I enjoyed it so much that I finished the first cup before even starting this tasting note. Time for a second cup!! Thanks Kittenna for this fantastic sample!

Bought this for my partner who is a fan of apple pie. Tonight when I asked “what tea do you want?” The answer, not surprisingly was “whatever you’re having”. So I’m having this even though I knew I didn’t like it, just so she can drink it.

I can’t get too eloquent about a green tea that tastes like watery apple cider. If you leave it too long, well, it’s green tea, it will punish you. I did ok with just under three minutes at 180 but the resteep was forgotten, was more like 5 min and made for a bitter tea.

But really, on the whole, apple cider. Long aftertaste, probably because of the lingering cinnamon.

So far “lime gelato” is DAVID’s most enjoyable green tea and “Kokomo green” their worst. "North African mint (organic) " is so unlike green tea that you can be surprised when you read the label and see “green tea”

What?! I haven’t logged this one yet? Well, I best get to it then.. Mom’s Apple Pie is pretty good. Sometimes I really like it, and other times it’s just okay enough to drink the rest of.

I have developed yet another chest cold, I have a deadline that I fear I’m not going to meet in two days, and I’m feeling generally miserable. I made an executive decision that a hot toddy was in order to turn my night around. So, I added a shot (or two) of Hot Damn! 100 proof cinnamon schnapps to Mom’s Apple Pie. Yes, it had a lighter fluid-y flavor to it at first. Then buzz took over and it still tasted like apple cinnamon lighter fluid but I just didn’t care as much. sigh

Footnote We don’t normally have Hot Damn! 100 proof schnapps in the bar. My hubby informed me that he bought the 100 proof instead of the regular one because they were the same price, and we’ll use less of the 100 proof. Yep, my sweetie is being economical and stuff :)

Thanks to QueenOfTarts for this one! Apple pie is a favorite of mine. (Okay, okay, all pies are a favorite of mine.) So I was looking forward to trying this one.

The dry leaf smelled very strongly of apple pie filling; like apples, cinnamon, & other spices (nutmeg, maybe?). Steeped, it’s a little more of a sour apple scent, but I can still get “hot apple pie” from it.

Taste during the sip is a light green tea with spices. After the sip, I’m picking up more of a real “apple pie” taste – well, specifically the filling for an apple pie. Reminds me of the version my Grandmother would make. Quite yummy.

Not getting any crust-like flavors, but still a pretty good approximation of homemade apple pie!

1.5 tablespoons of dry leaf for 375 ml of water.

The aroma of the brewed tea is mainly that of tart apple and cinnamon. There is a hint of baked crust scent in the background.

On the sip, the apple taste is rather flat and trails artificially to the end of the sip. The aftertaste is pleasant and does not carry the flat notes from the sip. Cinnamon flavour is mildly present. Buttery baked crust notes come through.

Mom’s Apple Pie + Pumpkin Chai = Decadent perfection.

Both fruity and spicy nothing else can beat it.
It’s a first story of love between the mixture and me.

The first aroma is really cinnamon and baked apple.
The first sip is fruity from the apple mixed with the spices of the Chai.
What a treat!

I just was watching “The tree of life” with that blend and feel like life was unreal. I was feeling good at this exactly moment in a way I can’t describe. The only thing that could make this moment better would be the presence of my girlfriend haha!

Do you have others blend to propose me?

Now THIS one is like an apple cider tea.
It’s really quite nice, very fruity! It’s perfect without any sugar, but I bet if sugar was added it would taste even more like apple pie.

The green tea is really what makes it unique to apple cider. It feels so much better for me than a powder mix too! The green tea adds little toasty roasty notes that conjure up the crust perhaps, but for me it just grounds it and reminds me that it is still a tea.

I steeped for just under 4 minutes and it’s just right for me. I wouldn’t add this to my permanent collection, but it’s a very well balanced tea. Not too spicy, not too sweet. Great to drink on a cold, rainy day like today.

WAIT- it just hit me! This tastes just like my favorite shot! Apple pie shot – SoCo, Green apple sourpuss and a sprinkle of cinnamon on top. I must add alcohol to this when I get home. a little spiced rum perhaps? Nice thing is, this tea doesn’t neet the tongue numbing sprinkle of cinnamon on top – it captures just the right amount!

EDIT – I added a dollop of soft vanilla ice cream on the top. Now THIS is apple pie.

EDIT again – Second steep has a lot of straight up green tea flavour, which I like a lot actually. Would be a good drink to have while eating a very sweet dessert

oops, nope, not for me. i got apple oatmeal and no cinnamon whatsoever. i will refrain from a number, but this was a full out miss from the david’s teas hit or miss tendency. i’m afraid it wasn’t even an apple cider. just apple powder in water…. i actually returned it.
