Our Maple Pecan Oolong utilizes our Nilgiri Frost Oolong base. This smooth, silky tea has maple notes that develop into pecan notes then finish with maple notes that linger. Some citrus notes may also be detected. The flavors weave together brilliantly and are well balanced with the oolong base. With a little sugar the maple and pecan intensify for a wonderful desert treat that resembles a pecan pie. We recommend adding sugar slowly; too much sugar and the tea will taste like exactly like fresh maple syrup with a hint of pecan.

Recommended Brew Time: 4 minutes

I was feeling generous, so when my husband asked what I was drinking, I told him I was preparing Maple Pecan Oolong from a sample and then ended up splitting it with him. He likes his tea unsweetened and told me I should write that this began with a delightful oolong flavor, followed by a burst of maple pecan, with a clean finish. (Sounds like a wine review, but he’s in that business!)I like to sweeten tea, but Stacy is right, it doesn’t take much with this one. I picked up on mostly a natural fresh maple syrup flavor, which since I like maple alot, made this a very enjoyable evening dessert tea. My husband and I both liked it.

I have wanted to try this one for a while and finally got a chance to thanks to a swap with KittyLovesTea. Honestly I’ve been sitting on this one for a while, and am just now getting around to trying it!

The scent of the dry leaf is certainly delectible… it smells like sweet sweet pecan pie. Brewed, the aroma is a little more subdued, lightly nutty and sweet. The flavor is also light, but quite well done. It’s one of those teas that doesn’t hit you over the head with its flavors, but instead suggests them to you, only to have them grow and develop in the aftertaste and over the course of the cup. The first major flavor is authentic maple, which then fades to a lightly fruity, oaky oolong. Then the nutty pecan flavor really blooms in the aftertaste, combined with maple to make the flavor of pecan pie filling.

Quite a tasty tea, and I’m very glad I got the chance to try it.

First cup of the day, and my first time trying this new tea. I was shocked by the size of the dry leaves – they’re huge! They’re very pretty mixed with large pieces of pecans. The dry leaves smell like rich maple with an underlying nuttiness. The steeped tea has a hint of sweet fruit along with the maple. I think this is probably the best, most authentic flavored maple tea that I’ve had. The flavor is initially fresh pecan, and then it changes into a sugar maple syrup aftertaste that leaves me feeling like I just had a very satisfying pancake breakfast. After adding a little sugar, it becomes almost a pecan pie dessert flavor. I’m definitely going to have to share some of this with my mom. She has a thing for fresh, real maple syrup and gave me a bottle for Christmas this year. She’s trying to have my aunt in Pennsylvania mail her fresh maple syrup since the season is coming up. Come to think of it, this tea kind of reminds me of those little maple leaf shaped candies that you can get in Pennsylvania (maybe elsewhere too?) that taste like hardened maple syrup. They’re so sweet that it almost makes your teeth hurt! Yum! This will be a nice, comforting tea to enjoy during the cold winter months.

-Dry blend has very large black and brown tea leaves with large pieces of pecans.
-Dry leaves smell strongly of rich maple syrup with a nutty note. Tea liquor aroma is of maple with a hint of sweet fruitiness.
-Tea liquor is a clear medium yellow orange color.
-Smooth fresh pecan flavor and finish. Sugary maple syrup aftertaste that lingers.
-Best with sweetener. Milk optional.
-Very good tea. A sugary sweet and authentic maple flavor with a slight nuttiness. Reminiscent of pecan pie or maple leaf candies.

Tea #10 from Traveling Tea Box C

Woo! Double digit tea box notes!

This tea has chilled in my cart every time I make a Butiki order I can’t afford and then scrap because of the aforementioned inability to afford it. It really just looks and sounds amazing.

Now that I’ve tasted it, I just can’t wrap my head around how much this tastes like maple and pecan. Everything tastes natural, there’s no artificial plastic tastes, or residual aftertastes that make me regret not making a latte, just exactly what it’s supposed to be.

This tea is naturally sweet (and not cloyingly so), so there was no need for sugar even if you were drinking it for dessert. It’s not super strongly flavored, which I really appreciate; it’s nice not to get clubbed with flavors once in a while. The maple and very subtle citrus notes are on my tongue first, followed by butteriness and what is very definitely pecan. The aftertaste leaves my mouth feeling like I just snacked on a handful of pecans.

This was one Stephanie sent my way. I have so much tea from her:) This base was a great choice! This for me was a very light tea. The aroma reminds me of the most amazing maple muffins we make at work! They are heavenly! The first sip you definitely get the nuttiness from the pecans and a slight maple after taste. Its a nice light afternoon tea:)

I ate the nuts out of this after 4 steepings and they were ridiculously delicious. Nice seasonal pick. I’ve noticed I tend to have my socks most knocked off by Butiki’s summery-er flavor profiles (like the melon teas, and today’s Flowery Pineapple Oolong) and haven’t been quite as obsessed with the warmer, spicier offerings, but that’s not to say they’re not well done at all; I just find them less insanely dead-on evocative and strong. Maybe part of it is those warmer, spicier, richer flavors are more prevalent in the dessert tea world so it somehow seems less special even though it’s often way better in execution than the myriad other teas out there. Whatever it is…aside from Potato Pancakes and Applesauce (and where else are you going to find that!), a lot of the cool weather Butiki teas I enjoy but don’t feel like I MUST keep around at all times. This was in that vein. Tasty and better than so many other similar things, but not zomg essential. Really lovely for a fall day like today though.

this was a very nice tea… a unique woodsy oolong reminiscent of a puerh. maple is a favourite, as are pecans…. but i must admit that the tea fell by the wayside when i gave in to my snacking impulse and chewed on one of the nuts in my steeping basket.

i have had wasabi peanuts, praline pecans, candy coated almonds… apparently my new favourite snack is nigiri frost oolong steeped pecans, lol! stacy, you could expand from teas to naturally flavoured nuts!

Put a little, tiny bit of sweetener in my cup this morning. Made that delicious maple pop out even more.

Edit: Had a second cup this morning to complete a sipdown. This one was a sad sipdown; I mean, I’m happy that I have room for more tea (especially b/c I just placed a big Adagio order), but I’m sad that I won’t have any more maple pecan oolong!

I’ve been looking forward to this one. This makes my second oolong ever, and I’m very excited to explore this ‘new’ type of tea. :)

Opening the bag, my eyes nearly rolled back into my head, haha. If this isn’t what heaven smells like, then … Yeah, I just can’t. Wow. Words … can’t describe.

Very excitedly scooped some leaf (and nice chunks of actual pecans!!) into my infuser, set the timer, and very impatiently waited.

It was worth the wait. To say it nice and quick: MMMMMMMMM!!!!!!!!!!! OM NOM NOM NOM.

It tastes far far better than I expected. The pecans steeped well with the tea, and the maple is to die for. It almost has a hint of salt in the taste too, sort of like those salted caramel drinks/treats you can purchase in Autumn.

I have to refrain from just guzzling this delicious tea right down so I can start on a second infusion, hehe.

Next order, I’m going to order the base of this, Nilgiri Frost. It tastes delicious with the flavors, and I’m very excited to taste this tea in its natural state as well.

EDIT: This tea makes an excellent dessert buster! At the first few sips, I was thinking ‘One of those Rocky Road Bars left over from that family reunion thing would go so well with this!’ but as I continued sipping, I felt more than satisfied. While I enjoyed the cup to the last drop, I certainly didn’t feel the need for the rocky road bar any longer. xD

I haven’t tried Almond Indulgence, but based on my experiences with Butiki so far I’m sure it’s also a winner. :) I know what you mean about flavored. It probably looks like I rarely drink any straight teaa based on my notes, but it’s really the opposite. xD; I just get excited and try a huge variety of flavored, but most days out of around 5 cups of tea, I don’t even make one flavored.
