111 Tasting Notes

Finally giving this a go; I’ve had a sample baggy of this for a while now!

My palate is still er ‘green’ when it comes to green teas, but I like that this one doesn’t taste anywhere near as seaweedy as most greens I’ve tried have tasted. It has a juicy sort of taste that brings Summer to mind.

(On that note, why is it still January? D: I want Spring!)

Mmmm, I’m loving this. This is definitely one of my favorite whites, if not my new favorite.

Its flavor is surprisingly robust for a white — which I guess is why it’s recommended to lovers of black tea — and is oh so creamy and sweet. I find it tastes mostly of sweet corn with a creamy mouthfeel. So good! :D

This is my first guayusa! :) Got this as a sample from Butiki.

(A little bit scared as I sip it though to be honest. I tend to be super caffeine sensitive, so I’ll find out if guayusa makes me crawl up the walls from this or not… haha … ha)

Moving along, the smell of the leaves were very dreamy. Like a lemon sucker! :) The good kind of lemon sucker, where it’s still kind of tart, not the ones where they taste kind of soapy. GOOD lemon candies tend to be my favorite of candies, and this is exactly what the leaves smell like.

The tea itself is not disappointing! :D It has that same ‘best lemon candy ever’ taste to it, with a slightly creamy mouthfeel. There’s something about it that feels really refreshing too, almost like you popped a mint.

The lemon taste in this is incredible; as of this writing — though I doubt this can be topped — this has the best lemon taste in any tea I’ve ever tried.

All in all, I love it! Assuming the caffeine levels don’t make me loopy, this will definitely be something to keep on hand. :)

EDIT Hooray! I’m fine! The caffeine levels didn’t bother me at all! This will now be a cupboard staple :D

I don’t remember what specifically it is but I remember that there is component of the guayusa that evens out the caffeine over an extended time instead of causing jitters and a crash. Glad you are enjoying the flavor.

Ah I see, that makes sense. :) I think to be on the safe side I’ll keep it as a morning tea, and not drink it in the afternoons. I’ve goofed myself up sleep wise with white tea, and it’s just awful tossing and turning all night wondering why sleep won’t come.

I’m super excited to try out a few more of the guayusas! :) I thought I’d grab some the Killer’s Vanilla and Tangerine Creamsicle along with this one :D

Is this one your favorite of your guayusa blends?

Butiki Teas

Chizakura- Definitely best to keep this a morning drink. I’ve made the mistake of having a few cups very late and then not been able to fall asleep for hours. This is my absolute favorite of the guayusas. The cider is a close 2nd followed by Winter Fire and The Killer’s Vanilla. We will be adding another guayusa in the next few months. :)

There’s something about this one. It’s not even really all that especially good. Most people probably know that I tend to think of DavidsTEA as a ‘teaware only’ shop for the most part, with now and then trying out a tea of theirs if my curiosity is piqued.

But this is one I keep coming back to. Something about is comforting. I like how creamy the mouth feel is, and the soft lemon. I like taking good long sniffs of both the dry leaf, and of the steeped cup.

That said, it’s not really something I would rave about, nor do I think this is something that everyone needs to try or anything.

Yet something about it keeps bringing me back.

Hooray! Got this as a sample from my Butiki order. :D First order from Butiki in about three months. How I missed seeing a Butiki in the mailbox each month.

Anyway, this one is quite interesting. :) I mainly get rhubarb, and then a small bite from the hops. Creamy vanilla sweetens the sips, and then I get an almost toasted coconut flavor? The most interesting part though is the mouthfeel after the swallow. There’s an almost sparkle, or feeling like I’d just had something fizzy but without the burning going down the throat like a soda or something.

This is quite good. :) I do find the Keemun is pretty overshadowed, making this quite a sweet tea, but it is there as a hint in the background. I still get that slightly earthy flavor from it, so it’s definitely there.

Yummy~ I find vanilla (as well as rhubarb and strawberry) flavors are done SO well in Butiki teas~ Whenever I see vanilla in the description, I have to try it, haha. I’ve never had a vanilla-flavored tea that comes even remotely close to the richness that Stacy manages in her teas.

All in all this is really really unique. :)

It’s official. I’ve found my perfect chai. It’s the perfect flavor. The Yu Lu Yan Cha base is already fairly spicy and chocolately on its own, so it was a natural choice for a chai. :)

The flavor balance is just perfect. It’s spicy in the ways I really love, more of a cinnamon sweeter spice, but still with a good kick from the ginger, peppercorn and other ingredients. And with just as much potency as the spicy flavor, it’s also sweet like graham crackers, or granola, or like that golden graham cereal.

I need to stock up on this. Like, a lot.

Oh good :) Also happy to report that it re-steeps really well. Have the third infusion going right now :)

Hi Steepster! It’s been a while :D Hope I haven’t been forgotten. D:
Finally trying this one for the first time.

I love the body of this tea. It’s so thick, and creamy and feels sort of silky on your tongue. I don’t really get chocolately notes so much, but more of cream, a touch of pepper, and a hint of floral at the finish.

Looking forward to drinking this many more times to fully ‘unlock’ the flavor so to speak. So far so good! :)

Busy trying to drink all the tea. :)

Hehe, that’s the best way to be :D I’m going to try to be on regularly like I used to. I miss this place.

Hello! I’m a 24 year old Canadian, currently working at Starbucks while I figure out what I want to do with myself in life, haha.

Like most everyone else, I grew up with teabags, and then discovered the grass really WAS greener on the other side with loose leaf. Nowadays I drink nearly exclusively loose, but will drink a bagged tea if I don’t care what I’m having.

My favorite kind of tea is black, and unflavored, although I do enjoy an occasional dessert black. I like whites second best. I’ve recently been dipping my toes into honeybush tisanes, greens and oolongs.

My favorite vendors are Butiki Teas and Verdant Teas. Both have fantastic teas, above and beyond customer service (especially Butiki), and fair prices for their very high quality teas. I can’t recommend them enough.

Purely for tasting notes references, I don’t use any additives for my teas. Older tasting notes for blacks was with milk+sugar, and then with just milk. Whites, oolongs, greens and herbals are all drunk straight unless otherwise specified in the notes.
