From Butiki Teas

Our Maple Pecan Oolong utilizes our Nilgiri Frost Oolong base. This smooth, silky tea has maple notes that develop into pecan notes then finish with maple notes that linger. Some citrus notes may also be detected. The flavors weave together brilliantly and are well balanced with the oolong base. With a little sugar the maple and pecan intensify for a wonderful desert treat that resembles a pecan pie. We recommend adding sugar slowly; too much sugar and the tea will taste like exactly like fresh maple syrup with a hint of pecan.

Ingredients: Nilgiri Frost Oolong, Pecans, Organic Natural Flavoring (vegan)

Recommended Brew Time: 4 minutes
Recommended Amount: 1 1/2 teaspoons of tea for 8oz of water
Recommended Temperature: 170 F degrees

Had two steeps of this last night.
It wasn’t quite sweet enough the first time around so I added a bit of coconut sugar for steep two.

Helped to bring out the flavours.
The thing about sweeteners is you can add them to your taste but you can’t take them away, so I wouldn’t change a thing.

This morning I ate the pecans before I threw away the leaves. Heheh.

Still a Butiki must have for me!

Neat, this is my 100th tasting note. :)

Dry: Fairly long and twisty dark brown leaves with huge pieces of pecans. Some of them are half or more in size and there are plenty. I had to shake the bag up to distribute them as the pecans kept settling. The tea smells delicious- rich and buttery and like it has been drizzled in sugary maple syrup.

Steeped: Light to medium brown clear liquor. Smells primarily like maple, but with a nutty finish in the aroma. I steeped 1.5 tsp in 8 oz water.

Taste: Yum! I have never actually had the Nilgiri Frost Oolong base, but I knew before I looked it up that this one must have it as the focus because somehow this tea taste like maples, buttery pecans, frost, and minerals. I don’t know how to describe what tasting frost is like, but this is it. Between the divine scent wafting from the cup and the lovely and interesting flavor, this oolong is a great choice for something new and unique.

Some flavor tags are missing from the new layout, but I would have added maple and frost if I could have in addition to butter, nuts, and mineral.

Flavors: Butter, Mineral, Nuts

Exactly as good as I expected it to be based on the reviews. I found a touch of sugar really enhanced the flavor for me. I’m still not sure I would make a habit out of flavored tea (even one as great-tasting as this one), but I’m really glad I got some of this. What more can I say, it tastes exactly like maple and pecan. Great, now I want pancakes.

My Butiki tea’s arrived this morning after just over a week of waiting in anticipation :) This one was chosen at random by my husband from the big magical box of tea and as soon as I opened the bag the most magical sweet and nutty fragrance filled my nostrils. It resembles a fresh pecan pie and words cannot describe how wonderful it smells. Infact it smells so delicious that my cats have been trying to steal it from me!

This was brewed due to the instructions given and for the first taste test I have not included any sugar or sweetener.

Colour: Gold with brown tinges

First sip: WOW. Second sip: Wowzers! I can detect the pecan nuttiness and the natural sweetness of maple but it doesn’t dominate (which is a huge plus). The oolong is more noticeable about half way down the cup but it blends in very well and only adds to the flavouring instead of taking anything away. A slight citrus is noted too at this point but only very slight, like very subtle lemongrass.

Each sip has the same burst of flavours and it has been a while since I felt this but I will be upset to see this cup come to an end, I could drink gallons of this. I think adding sugar would pro-long the sweetness for those with a sweet tooth but I find the natural sweetness to it enchanting enough.

All I can say is wow, this is my new favourite flavoured Oolong.

Why have I waited so long to have this tea???

It must be because my previous note picked up on the astringence of the pecan as it cooled, and therefore needed some sugar. This cup is not like that at all – maple candied pecans that somehow manage to be both a heavy dessert taste with a light airy texture.

I do not like to add anything to oolong, green or white teas so I’m glad I don’t need to here. However, I will say that I think the oolong is not really discernible, and the color of the steeped tea (a light amber) could almost lend itself to a darjeeling.

Liking this a lot today for sure, I just need to return to it sooner next time!

I am not sure why I hadn’t reviewed this tea yet. This tea was great while it lasted. It definitely had the maple note, the pecan note was missing a bit for me. I drank this straight and a few times doctored up. I enjoyed this tea, but it is not one I will order again. The flavor for me just wasn’t my cup of tea. I am not head over heals for maple.

I just wanted to note that my rating of the tea isn’t based on the quality of the tea, but based on if I would peruse this tea again based on my personal preference. I think this is a great tea and I would recommend it to others.

I had this tea before, but didn’t log it. It was in one of my earliest Butiki orders. I got more as part of the black Friday promotion.

The dry leaf smells amazing. Brewed, the smell is mostly maple and the flavor is all pecan. It’s a pretty good tea, but it could be better. I wish there was a bit more maple in the flavor too.

This tea has been at the top of my want to try list for a while now because I’m a huge fan of maple, pecan, and oolong. When I opened the package up I was surprised as just how large the pieces of pecan were. Most of the teas that I’ve had which include nuts only use small pieces, so this was a welcome sight. My first sip just stopped me cold, this is everything that I could possibly want in a dessert tea. It starts off very sweet, you can taste a genuine maple flavor and the pecans stand out as well. There is even a slight bitter bite to the end of each sip, just like what you would get when eating a pecan. I love that the tea base and other additions don’t cover that up, it makes the flavor that much more genuine.

I will absolutely reorder this around Thanksgiving, I think I found my after dinner tea to enjoy with my pecan pie. I make a killer pecan pie :)

Backlog and sample sipdown, except not really, since I ordered some more of this yesterday since I really enjoyed it.

Sweet, mapley, and nutty. I’ll have to remember to try this with a hint of sugar, too, but it’s still amazing on its own.

So, I’m down to my last teaspoon of this tea. Not having any more of this is a sad sad thought. And just like when I had the last teaspoon of Butiki’s Cantaloupe & Cream, I know that this tea needs to be on hand always.

It’s amazing :)

To start, Butiki teas always smell wonderful. Appetizing even. Like I can even put off tasting the tea, just continue smelling it. But it doesn’t end there. The walnut is in perfect balance with the sweet maple. It doesn’t overwhelm, yet is clearly present. The maple, divine. It is dessert-like, without being overly sweet.

A very well crafted tea. Clearly I need to put in another order with Butiki.
