From 52teas

There is nothing like a rootbeer float, especially one made with some real draft rootbeer like they have at A&W. I really hope they don’t sue me for using their image, but when I think of rootbeer floats, that’s all I can think of. If you’ve never had draft rootbeer from an A&W restaurant, you’ve never really had rootbeer. And a rootbeer float from A&W… well, let’s just say there’s a reason I really need to go on a diet.

This special blend of premium black teas, marshmallow root and organic flavors comes close enough to the real thing that for zero calories, I’ll be drinking this all day when I’m not saving calories for the real thing.

I’m still not a huge fan of root beer, but for some reason I enjoy this tea a lot more than 52teas Butterbeer one. They’re pretty similar, but this has marshmallow root instead of chicory (and no butter flavour, but I couldn’t taste that anyway), so that must make all the difference. Especially with a pinch of sugar added to give it more of a pop/soda feel, this is pretty tasty! I expect fans of root beer would like it a lot more than I do, too. Thank you for sharing, MissB!

So I just “Discovered” this tea in the wrong drawer. It was with my non-sample teas, so it was hidden at the bottom of the teas. In reality, this was a taster that I got…??? I don’t know when I got this, but I figured I’d give it a shot.

Unaltered, this tastes very strongly of root beer. Very bitey root beer at that. However, I wanted to latte this, so I did.

Taste Latte’ed is… well it’s creamy I’ll give it that. The root beer flavor comes in on the back burner, with a strong lingering flavor and heavy on the aftersip. It isn’t as in your face when you latte it. Not that it being in your face was a bad thing, I love a good SODA! flavored tea. However, this is supposed to taste like a rootbeer float, so maybe it isn’t meant to be latte-ed? Maybe it’s just supposed to taste like the float upfront. I’ll have to resteep it and try it a second time.

Ok, on resteep, the root beer flavor isn’t nearly as noticeable. It’s unfortunate. I believe I will need to revisit this at a later time. For now, just take my word that it’s definitely Root Beer and that’s all I can tell you right now.

I would think root beer would be an odd flavor without carbonation, but it works really well. It’s creamy as well, which elevates it to float level, rather than just root beer.

The smell of the leaf is root beer perfection. I brewed this hot, poured a finger into another cup, and stuck it in the fridge. I tried it hot, and it’s pretty good, root beer with vanilla and wood notes.

Oh yes, I prefer it cold. This is a fun tea! It’s a bit more woody cold, which is a little odd, but I like it. Thanks, 52teas.

One of the many 52teas selections sent to me by Kawaii433! I do enjoy root beer, so I’m happy she chose this one to share.

Hmm, I’m not sure about this one. It does have a fairly accurate root beer flavor, which is very tasty. However, it’s also quite woody. I’m not sure if that’s from the base tea or the added sarsaparilla root, but I’m finding it very distracting.

I definitely taste root beer, but I’m not sure I’m really getting the creamy “float” element here, and that may just be because of the strong woody overtones.

It’s still an enjoyable tea, and it does have a lovely root beer flavor. It just misses the mark for me a little bit with the ice cream element of the root beer float.

I tried this one too but didn’t log it yet. I have 5 more grams to try it again but I tasted a really good rootbeer but no milk nor creme either.

Sil

Same here. Yummy root beer, but not so much float.

I’m glad it’s not just me! It’s still nice as a root beer tea. :D

Made this one as a latte today for a little more calcium today. I have started prenatal yoga on Saturday mornings, and I never expected it to be so challenging….really should have started when I wasn’t so far along lol. Needless to say, when I waddle back home, I’m usually starving. So I made this up as a latte while I cooked lunch for myself. It wasn’t as strong as I’d want it to be (doubled the tea) so I think if I did it again I’d triple it. That being said, it was exactly what I wanted it to be. I haven’t had a tea lattes forever, and VariaTEA reminded me the other day how much I enjoy them.

gmathis

I remember the starving stage :) Glad you are feeling well enough to be that active!

__Morgana__

The best part is when you’re starving, but you’re so big that there’s no room for your stomach to expand after you eat. I went through a lot of Tums…

Sil

haha thanks guys. Staying positive – just hate feeling so drained!

Kittenna

@Morgana – oh man, the heartburn after eating anything! I almost couldn’t believe how quickly it disappeared after I gave birth.

@Sil – I was only crazy hungry a couple times during pregnancy, but I have never been so parched or hungry as I was in the first couple months due to breastfeeding. Haha.

Sil

@kittenna – yeah i’m not looking forward to that. I mean i am..but also really not lol.

gmathis

…and the crazy cravings. Anybody for tomato paste straight out of the can on a Triscuit? My dad thought that was so funny he bought me a whole case of tomato paste at Aldi’s. :)

Sil

@gmathis lol that’s hilarious

I’ve had this one a long time and just finished it up – I am surprised I haven’t reviewed it already. It is eerily accurate in its flavor. It really does taste like a super mildly sweet, flat root beer. Because of the similarity to flat soda when cold, I prefer this hot, though I imagine you could make a solid soda knockoff by adding carbonation.

Oh wait! This was actually the first cup of the day, but I drank it down so fast, I forgot about it.

Good root beer fragrance and flavour, with a touch of creaminess and a hint of fruit from the base. I still prefer DAVIDs, but this is really tasty, and would probably be great with milk and sugar.

Thanks muchly to Lala for sending some my way! I love root beer, and haven’t had a root beer float in ages (the picture on the pouch makes me want to experience that again sometime) so in order to try to emulate root beer in a cold, frosty mug, I decided to cold steep this.

And it’s truly yummy, like root beer with a stronger black tea background. Kind of wish I saved a bit for a hot cup to compare but this is an excellent alternative to actual root beer.

Speaking of experiences, I went to a movie at the theatre for the first time since 2010. Mockingjay broke my four-year streak. Not as captivating as the first two but I still can’t wait for the next to come out!

Sil

you broke it for that? lesigh

Fjellrev

Ugh, yeah. I showed my mom the first two on Sunday night and we thought screw it, let’s see the next one in the theatre now. Clearly I don’t get out much.

Angrboda

Do you not like going to the cinema?

yyz

I don’t go to the movies much anymore either. Mostly because, the sound is too loud and I have to wear earplugs to make it even bearable. Even then the sound is so loud sometimes it still causes me pain.

Fjellrev

Angrboda, I love going to the movies, but I just never had a life whilst going to university. Now that I’m done with it, I have time to go again. :)

I’m sorry the sound systems are too loud for you, yyz. I can see what you mean. I was surprised at how loud it was yesterday.

Sil

yeah…we like the movies as a treat, though now that we have the new tv, even harder to justify going since we can be comfy AND control the volume.. i had a headache the last time we went

Fjellrev

Oh yeah, hard to justify when you can sit at home and watch a movie on your own time in your own chair on a nice big flatscreen. For free! I recently bought a 39", and got a Shomi subscription, which works well enough for me. But still, it’s nice to see a movie… that’s supposed to be super awesome… in the theatre every once in a while.

Angrboda

We enjoy going but we’re very particular about what to see when there, so we only go maybe once a year or something like that. It has to be a really good film, otherwise I just feel like I’ve wasted my time, far more than I would if I’d watched it at home.

Fjellrev

That’s exactly how I feel about it too, Angrboda. I can’t justify spending that kind of money all of the time to see random mediocre films.

Angrboda

We have a comfortable economy in this household, so it’s not really the money for us so much as it’s the time. :) Somehow wasting time seems even worse than wasting money with some things.

Well, no surprises here. Tastes sweet and creamy. I’m surprised at the how strong the root beer flavour is for a tea, and it oddly works! If I still drank soda it would be root beer, but since I don’t I can satisfy any cravings with this tea.

Thanks for the sample, Lala! Yums!

Anlina

Root beer is the one soda I can’t give up, even though drinking stuff with bubbles makes me feel so terrible and pukey.

scribbles

Yeah, they’re pretty harsh on me too :(

gmathis

Funny you brought that up…we ate out last night and I drank the first root beer I’ve had in…a year? Barq’s. Pretty tasty!
