There are some blends I create that actually make me feel like an evil genius. This is one of those blends.

I’m really tempted to just say:

Muah – ha – ha!

and leave it at that.
Here’s our caffeine-free African honeybush with organic cacao nibs, marigold petals and natural and organic flavors. If this doesn’t cure your sweet-tooth, I’m not sure I can help you.

I just realized that I skipped the very first day of the 12 days of X-mas sampler – I found the package for day 14 at the bottom of the box underneath everything else. Oh well, I’ll get to it tomorrow, I hope.

Frank has made some very nice cheesecake honeybush blends in the past (the coconut cheesecake one comes to mind), but somehow this one feels a little bit lacking. I can pick up the cheesecake flavour and the sweetness of the honeybush base goes really well with any sort of dessert flavour. But I’m not really getting that chocolate/peanut butter taste- instead the flavour reminds me more of caramel. There’s maaaaaaybe something a bit like peanut butter if you squint. I might just have to do a longer steep.

Meh. Not sure if I am just going thru tea blahs still, or if I just havn’t had a new tea that I really like yet. Or maybe it’s both, hmm?

This tea is not bad, and as it cools noticing a little bit more flavor…like a peanutbuttery taste, but not terribly distinctive. Thinking I might want to send this on, but I give it a few more shots to be sure.

Weird.

This is another one of Franks spot on blends but I"m not sure how well the flavor carries over to a hot beverage. I might try putting some milk in it, something I’ve never done with honeybush.

When it cools it is fabulous. The cheese cake is prominent followed by the peanut butter then chocolate. I might have enjoyed a little more chocolate but all and all this is a lovely night time tea.

This moment, right now, I can imagine licking at a gob of salty crunchy peanut butter off a spoon. The cheesecake element is more subtle but this is the closest I have imagined tasting a real flavour within a dessert tea without detecting an alcohol-like artificial essence.

Day 6- 12 Teas of XMAS

I AM SO BEHIND ON THESE REVIEWS! Btw, it’s the 23rd, and I’m up to date with my sampler, and this one is my favorite of the bunch. Great peanut butter flavor, the cheesecake comes through, it doesn’t feel overdone, and the rooibos is a good match!

MissB was kind enough to send me a box full of decaf teas after I mentioned I had to be careful with caffeine for awhile and this is the first tea I pulled out. If their all as good a this one then that box of teas is worth it’s weight in gold! Drinking this tea is like drinking a really good hot coco, so silky smooth and sweet! The distinction between peanut and peanut butter cup is apt in that it doesn’t taste of actual peanut butter, but more like the filling in peanut butter cups. I can see why that might detract from this blend for some people, just as some people only eat Lindt chocolate and not Hershey’s. But me, I very much enjoy what they’ve done here. The cheesecake doesn’t come through very much for me, perhaps in the mouth feel or overall creaminess, but not as a flavor note. A tasty (caffeine free) treat for a rainy night just like this!

I really need to check steepster before brewing up new teas. 2.5 min just isn’t enough! All I got from this was a hint of nut, not even peanutbutter, and some floral sweetness and then of course the honeybush.
I have enough to try again.
Thank you for the sample Lala!

I picked this up during MissB ’s stash sale. Or, more accurately, she noticed that this was on my wishlist and threw some in with my actual order. Thanks!

Experience has taught me that Frank’s dessert honeybush/rooibos blends demand sugar to really bring out their best flavor. This one surely does. With the addition of some brown rock sugar, this tastes of peanut butter cups. Not peanut butter, not chocolate, but precisely the combination. It’s interesting. I’m not picking up cheesecake flavor per se, but there is an underlying creaminess. Nice.

MissB

I wanted more cheesecake too – still tasty though. Glad you liked it!
