Tea of the afternoon here, this is the 2nd tea I’ve had today that has a cake theme! This is pineapple-y and brown sugar-y, not exactly like a real cake but close enough to satisfy my sweet tooth for now. See previous notes.

Ohhhh man. Smelling this in my cup now. My second Della Terra ordered arrived today, happy birthday to me!!! Great timing because it’s a rough birthday.
This is fast becoming a fave tea company of mine. Move over Davidstea!!

I’m going to let it cool a bit and then report my findings.

Ok, drinking this again. I made it at work yesterday and again right now, my coworkers practically followed the scent from the kitchen to my cubicle. I could hear them saying “mmmm, what’s that smell?? Something smells good!”

It is so fresh that it looks wet in the bag. That may seem gross to you but it just makes me want to eat it with a spoon . I wouldn’t go that far though, you guys, come on.

It’s almost as good as it smells. And the similarities to Davidstea Red Velvet Cake are pretty amazing because that one is chocolatey and this isn’t!

Maybe they used a similar cake flavouring. You can’t pull the wool over my eyes, I know that’s how it works. Just tell me where you bought it so I can use it on everything else.
It’s very sweet, this tea. Definite brown sugar notes, creamy, I guess the only “complaint” I have is that I can’t taste the pineapple very much. I wish this was a bit more different from the Red Velvet Cake because given the ingredients and intention with this I should love it way more than that one. I do love it though, and will have to do a comparison sometime! Another DellaTerra win!

Happy belated birthday!

I found the same thing about Della Terra. They have great tea, reasonable prices and one thing that DavidsTea is sorely lacking: SALES. :P

Kittenna

Yes…. DT could certainly stand to have more sales! Or coupons. Or a rewards program…

ohfancythat

Yes!! I mean clearly their sales are not slowing despite their lack of sales but I bet they’d go up even if they put a tea a week on sale or something! Even the discontinued ones aren’t discounted. Silly.

ohfancythat their sales aren’t slowing despite their lack of promotional discounts (sounded confusing before)

Sil, you are now my best friend!
This tea is SO AWESOME!
I opened the package, & the smell is AWESOME!!!
It smells like butterscotch chips. It smells like cake, & a creamy frosting. It smells wonderful!
I steeped it, & I love it. My son Drew walked into the room & said, “What is that awesome smell?” I allowed him to sample 1 tsp of my cup of tea, & he said, “We MUST get more of this.”
He’s right!

Sil

Hahahahahaha so glad I was able to send that off to you. The resteep is pretty good too, which is rarely the case with della terra (in my opinion, but I seem to be the odd man out when it comes to della terra)

Terri HarpLady

Yeah! I went ahead & tried for a resteep, & it was tasty too!
Most of the time with flavored teas, I don’t bother.
Thanks again! You are awesome!

Ok, months have passed since Cavocorax sent me a sample of this. I dismissed it at the time as being too sweet and cloying for me, but shortly after I finished the sample I began CRAVING it. Nicole’s descriptive comment of an actual Pineapple Upside Down Cake on my old note reinforced that craving. I finally caved in last week and ordered some more, along with my staple Lime Chiffon.

Yep, It still tastes like rich citrusy cake. I’m actually getting some fruity pineapple before the finish/midsip, and their is a citrus sour aftertaste. This is not an everyday tea but I’ll keep it tucked away for when I really need a slice of cream-filled cake.

And here I was just complaining about how over-the-top sweet the winter blends from David’s Tea are. To give this tea some credit it’s less oily looking then RVC, Coffee Cake, etc.

I’m really frazzled from life and the upcoming holiday today. It seems like some huge catastrophe happens every october/november (this year is was both our cars) that prevents us from having any disposable income for gifts. Or anything, really. It’s like no matter how hard we try to get ahead (and are for a while), we’re going to get slammed.

So it’s just a milk and sugar and make me happy kind of tea day. The cakey pineapple sweetness here is really hitting the spot.

Tuscanteal

I love the holidays but feel the same way as you.

Mmmmm this tea is amazing. It’s sweet and has delicious baked notes. I’m always surprised at how good this is whenever I drink it.

Lariel of Lórien

Try it cold, it’s even more awesome.

KallieBoo!

So you just cold brew it?

TastyBrew

I love it cold too. I haven’t ever cold brewed it though, I’ve been meaning too. I brew it strong and then pour over ice.

Lariel of Lórien

I’ve probably had it more as a cold brew.

I know I’m in the minority here, but it’s ok: I’ve been feeling contrary lately (I feel like singing that song from The secret Garden about mistress Mary now! oh, btw, The Lion King is coming back to Toronto and I’m going! yaaaaaaa!). Sorry. Anyway, this tea didn’t cut it for me, although it wasn’t awful, either.

People raved about this tea so much. When I opened the bag and inhaled, I smelled that seemingly signature Dellaterra cake smell, which isn’t bad at all, but it does get a bit redundant. Honestly, it smelled exactly like Birthday cake from David’s tea, and I had to double check that this wasn’t indeed a rooibos, because it sure smelled like it. Anyway, as it steeped, I got more of a cake smell—like it actually smelled thick and creamy, and I got my hopes up. And then I sipped it, and found myself underwhelmed. Before any flavouring, I somehow got a bit of an astringent base, and hot on its heels was the birthday cake flavouring that reminded me of rooibos. as the tea cooled, I liked it more, because somehow as it cooled it became creamier, and I found myself wishing that the first few sips tasted more like the last few sips, but then all the tea was gone and I was very ho hum about the whole ordeal. Then we ordered pizza for dinner and it arrived an hour and a half later (which was fine because of the really bad weather) but it was also cold. Uggh. I need some redemption in my life!

Oh, and no pineapple taste to speak of, but I’m sure you guys knew that. Just saying.

Yvonne

I have this one and haven’t yet tried it – hm, I’m sorry it didn’t live up to your expectations! Maybe I’ll try it tomorrow, I’m really curious now.

JustJames

the only way i liked this was drowned in brown sugar =0(

we can be contrarians together!

Fjellrev

Add me to the list! I thought it smelled and tasted a lot like David’s RVC, but a touch better. No pineapple either.

TheTeaFairy

Count me in, don’t like it either!

It’s a cold, rainy night in NY and I am craving a cup of something rich and warming. Something like… cake! As luck would have it I just got a sample of this tea from Chuckieroy, what perfect timing. This tea smells just divine, not just pineapple-y but very much like cake. Often cake blends fail to deliver on that aspect, but I had high hopes for this one since Della Terra seems to excel at dessert blends.

Oh my GOODNESS. This tastes just like cake! The pineapple is strong but tempered by brown sugar and a rich, creamy quality. It’s so buttery and, well, cake-y! Definitely the most cake-like tea I’ve tasted, this so lives up to its name and I will be adding this to my permanent stash for sure. Thanks so much for letting me try this one, Chuckieroy!

Sipdown! My last cup of this didn’t go unnoticed at work this morning. Almost as soon as I added the tea to the water, people were commenting on the sugary, caramelly scent it gives off. It does smell wonderful, it has to be said. The bad news is that I’m getting a cold just in time for the weekend, and this tastes rather inexplicably of coffee cake to me this morning. I think my tastebuds have already packed up in protest!
This makes for a delicious tea, but it doesn’t taste quite as much of pineapple as I’d hoped. A definite contender for future Della Terra orders, though!

CAKE.

This is more buttery cake than pineapple, I could so use a bit more. I probably have something somewhere I could add. Or next time I will just sweeten it a little. But yes, if you like cake, this is your tea. It tastes just like cake.
