I really like this. It is definitely a nice low-calorie stand-in for hot chocolate. :) To me, it has more of a milk chocolate taste than dark chocolate, and the almond sweetens or mellows it somehow. There’s not a strong tea flavor, which I am OK with because the other flavors are strong, but be warned about that if you “need” to taste tea. I bet it would be good with a little milk, too.

I just got this, and drank a couple of cups already. Once with almond milk, and once without milk. Both times I drank it hot, not cold. The artificial almond flavor is overwhelming, and that is really the main flavor l taste, and smell. There is a tiny bit of a chocolate flavor as well. I doubt I would purchase this again.

As I expected, I kind of fell out of following my advent calendar once exams finished and I started working more, so now I’m trying to get through the last of it (and will hopefully finish it off before New Year).

I actually forgot I brewed up a pot of this so it sat for…well I’m not actually sure but at least over an hour. Fortunately it was a big pot so it stayed decently warm.

As for the actual tea, it’s fine. I do get chocolate covered almond, but the chocolate is definitely a cheap, waxy chocolate. Kind of wish the almond was a little stronger. There’s a strange sweetness that reminds me of stevia, even though there isn’t any in this blend. I still have a small sample of this, but I won’t miss it.

I was opening the deep drawer where I keep most of my teas, wondering what to have tonight, when I caught sight of my DAVIDs Tea calendar. You know, I have plenty of tea left in there, and I should drink it up. I opened the little drawers at random. No, not that one. No, I didn’t rally care for this one. I’m not in the mood for that one. What about…?

I finally settled on this one, forgetting the yerba mate. I hope it won’t keep me awake. I actually like the flavor more this time around. Still a bit artificial, but nice.

Bought this one in store yesterday. I figured I like chocolate and I like almonds so it should be good. It has the taste of dark chocolate to me not milk chocolate. And the almonds are present too with a nutty note. Overall this is very tasty.

I steeped this one time in a 16oz Teavana Glass Perfect Tea Maker/Gravity Steeper with 3 tsp leaf and 200 degree water for 4 minutes.

I’m pretty undecided about this one. Although I love chocolate and nut teas, I have been having issues with the chocolate in Davids Teas for at least a year, with them tasting weird…is it the alcohol taste others have mentioned? I am not sure. I definitely like this one better than Coffee Cake (belch!), but I am not sure I can call it a favourite of the collection either.

My initial steep was plain, with no milk or sugar. When I had it yesterday with milk as a latte, it was a little bland, so maybe a smidge of sugar would have helped a bit? I do have more to try. I’ve been trying to have more teas without sugar, but I feel some are better with some. That said, David’s Teas are now mostly sweet enough for me to have without sugar, which I am happy about. I have been cutting my sugar use gradually over the last few years and I was at a little bit of a plateau for a loooong time, so it is good to have progressed further, but I feel like when I do add sugar, I am regressing back to needing it sweeter. Still, progress is progress, and I am proud of myself for coming as far as I have. And I have to remind myself of this when I do choose to use sugar in my tea…I try to use less than I had been before, which makes me feel less guilty.

Anyway, I am still undecided on this and will leave it unrated for now.

Had this as an eggnog latte (or maybe a smoothie…actually I think it was a smoothie) the other day and I don’t recall much other than this having an alcohol sort of smell/taste to it. Sorta like chocolate and amaretto. It was okay but nothing I need to have again, especially in light of the mate in the base.

Additional notes: I like that this says for caffeine it’s “low” on the Steepster page because now I’m questioning WHY DID I BUY THIS WHEN I KNEW HOW WEAK THE BLACK TEA WAS?!?! I guess I just like the idea of it more than I was recalling my memories of it. The black tea couldn’t get any weaker, which is a real shame. Maybe I thought it was the age of my sample making the black tea weak before? Or hoping that the base had changed by now? It was on sale anyway. Like I said the other day, there is nothing worse than a light base on a chocolate tea. bleck. Lowering the rating from 79 (which I don’t usually do, but new harvests confirm things.)

Roswell Strange

Only slightly related, but this is the caffeine rating metric that DT uses:

Low = 1-19mg/8oz
Medium = 20-39mg/8oz
High = 40+mg/8oz

Just in case you were curious.

tea-sipper

Thanks, Ros! I don’t think caffeine affects me at this point anyway. haha

Roswell Strange

I feel that – I think I murdered any reaction my body might have had to caffeine years ago, back when VariaTEA and I were competing for tasting notes and I was steeping six teas at a time.

tea-sipper

SIX teas at a time?!? Yeah, I think when I brew two at a time, even if I try to only have one black tea and another type (rather than two black teas at the same time), that alone did it for my caffeine levels.

VariaTEA

hahahahaha @Roswell Strange, I forgot about that! We both ended up drinking like 20 cups or something insane that day. Also, I know for sure some of those were the 24 oz mason jar. I would say we should do that again but I genuinely think I might die.

Roswell Strange

I don’t think I’ve ever caffeine overdosed, but that’s probably the closest I’ve been.
