From DAVIDsTEA

We’re going crazy for coconuts over here. Why? Because they’re fun, delicious and make an amazing base for a piña colada. And this happy-go-lucky blend of pineapple, mango and coconut is the perfect way to get a taste. Sweet, fruity and delightfully creamy – it’s the kind of drink that makes us want to sip back and relax by the poolside all day long. The best part? It steeps a pretty light pink, thanks to a touch of hibiscus. It’s totally loco coco.

Ingredients: Pineapple, Roasted Coconut, Mango, Apple, Hibiscus, Natural Coconut and Pineapple Flavouring. Contains Coconut.

Price per 50g: $7.98

My local Davids Tea was sampling this cold and since I love all things pina colada I HAD to try it. Unfortunately there’s something about the smell and something about the taste that I found really unpleasant. I wanted to like it, but I just couldn’t. I can’t even pinpoint as to what it was, as apart from the hibiscus i like all the ingredients individually and even the hibiscus wasn’t in a quantity large enough to be off-putting. Maybe my taste buds are off – that happens sometimes with the meds I’m on. And since it was such a small amount I got to try I’m going to hold off rating this tea for now.

Everyday I bring my cold brew to school, I have a friend who excitedly asks “is that a teapop?” since she has never heard of them so she is curious. Today I decided to bring a teapop to show her what it is but I took a lazy route and cold brewed it. Since cold brewing in the carbonated water directly didn’t turn out so great and I am too lazy to wake up earlier to brew tea, I decided to cold brew 4 tsps in 8 oz of water and then top off the strained tea with the perrier in the morning. That actually worked though using a plastic water bottle wasn’t the best idea since the pressure built inside (don’t worry, it didn’t explode) and the bottom bubbled so it kept rolling around the desk.

As for this as a tea pop, for one thing, it was a lovely color (think dusty rose with a bit of sparkle). Unfortunately, lovely color doesn’t mean lovely taste. I found it to be too sweet brewed this way. Granted, a tea like this is bound to be sweet but it was just too much. Something about the tea pop just emphasized the coconut which thankfully was not lotion-y but still a bit much. Luckily I have 85g of it so I can continue to experiment. I will hold off on ratings until I do so.

Yay for sparkle! :)
