Tieguanyin, a journey through sublime flavors. Compared to their previous Tieguanyin, which was a nice tea, this one stands out as exceptionally delightful. The first sip unveils a graceful dance of orchid, accompanied by a smooth, buttery texture. As the infusion deepens, creamy sweetness emerges, evolving into hints of fresh greens and a touch of citrus. Each steep is a delightful transformation, leaving a lingering symphony of floral and fruity notes. An exquisite oolong for the discerning palate.

This tea unveils a deep earthiness that resonates throughout the experience, complimented by mineral undertones that add a distinctive edge. Notes of sandalwood and a subtle hint of tobacco contribute to the complexity. There is a woody essence also intertwined with a delicate roasty character, that establishes a harmonious balance. The smooth mouthfeel enhances the overall drinking experience, providing a comfortable texture.

Geek Steep S3E19 – The Three Body Problem (Novel)

Gongfu!

This is one of two different Dahongpao that I drank while reading through this week’s fandom/book – I chose Dahongpao because I read the first episode and essentially decided that something Chinese in origin with more of a political history would be super approprite for this read through, and I think I was pretty dang spot on.

I decided to bring a mooncake with me to enjoy with this session while reading at the park. This one is lemon paste with candied lemon peel and salted egg yolk. Sounds a bit weird, admittedly, but it tastes really delicious – almost like a less sweet Lemon Pound Cake!

This is honestly one of the most nutty tasting Dahongpao that I’ve brewed. It’s very smooth with a pleasantly roasty, mineral character and hints of orchids and lilacs to the undertones. It even has a bit of a snappy sort of woody top note that I found fascinating. Mostly, though, it kind of just tasted deliciously of peanuts. Both roasted peanuts and, well, peanut butter. Sorta creamy and a little bit sweet to go along with a general umami profile. More like a natural peanut butter, at least – not something super processed and refined. The kind where all the oil seperates if you go a day or two without using it. Very, very good.

Side note – I bought this yunomi cup because the colour and stroke pattern of the glaze made me think of tall blades of grass, and drinking with it this afternoon at the park just made me so gleefully joy filled because it fit in so perfectly with all the greenery!

A sweet black tea. When hot the tea has noticeable wood and malt notes, when cool it has light note of rose. I’m a grandpa style brewer and I could feel the presence of tannin after a while. For the price this is a nice daily drinker, I would recommend going light when brewing the tea.

A very interesting black tea. The tea doesn’t feel like a black tea, it tastes more like a hojicha because of its toasty, vegetal flavors. Light in fruity notes. When added milk the tea tastes like a tea flavored dark chocolate. It’s very unique.

This time I’m only reviewing the rose black tea from this sampler.

A rose flavored black tea. I drank it hot because I prefer hot tea over iced tea. The rose has a strong floral lychee note that does not come off as artificial, the black tea base is on the medium to light side but still has the fruity tartness of a Yunnan black tea. Honey goes really well with this tea.

Of the teas from this box I have tried the jasmine green tea and fenghuang dancong before, I recommend those two as well. I probably will write a separate review for the fenghuang dancong. Like their other samplers this box also contains empty tea bags.

I was quite surprised that this tea came off as smokier than the lapsang suchong, but it was delightfully so. The first steep had more bitter woody tea notes, and the 3-4th steep had a wonderful balance. I over steeped some to add to my soy egg marinade and it provided a beautiful depth of flavour. Definitely one of my faves.

The classic selection has 4 different Black teas and 4 different Oolong teas. It has two of each tea so there are 16 bags of loose-leaf teas. It has been a real eye-opener. I mean, I’ve tried my fair share of Chinese tea, but the variety of flavors and aromas in this selection is something else. It’s like a flavor adventure every time I brew a cup, and I absolutely love discovering new tastes. I love this tea box! For those who prefer Lapsang without the intense smoky flavor, this is a wonderful choice. The dry leaf is a dusty, dark chocolate brown with beautifully twisted leaf. This one is best consumed on its own. It is light and thus your palate is best if clean of anything else before you consume it. Very woody in flavor with notes of decaying tree, a pile of wet leaves, raisin bread, and some very light woody notes. The wet leaf aroma is pleasant; high in wheat bread with raisins
Soft mouth feel. Astringency piles on fast. This is not a leave it in the cup and see what happens tea. Don’t walk away. Sit and enjoy the session. However, once you get to the fourth and fifth sessions leaving it longer is advisable for more flavor.

Sipdown (2382)!

Since I spent a lot of today just hanging out around the house and catching up on comic books, I thought it was a good day to do my weekly “teas I drink in a day” round up on IG. I decided to take it a step further and make it even more themed by dubbing the day “Sipdown Saturday” and challenging myself to only drink teas I’d be finishing off…

I’ve heard from several people who also received the iTea World samplers that this is the worst/most disappointing of the teas included so I’ve been hesistant to brew it myself. Honestly, though, I didn’t think it was that bad. Certainly not as memorable as several of the other teas have been, but it was pretty smooth with a very interesting array of tasting notes. The most striking were this very peculiar mix of sweet parma violet candies and more mineral and drying roasted peanut. I kind of liked the strange juxtaposition, though.

The leaf brewed out very quickly for an oolong, so only a few steeps. Part of that may be that this is one of the samples that’s a very sparse amount of tea leaf per packet so it was definitely a little less concentrated in my 100ml gaiwan that I accustomed to.

I was going to ask which comics you read, but you covered that in the IG post. =) How’re you enjoying She-Hulk?

Bilouchun is one of my favorite Chinese green teas and this one was no exception. Very nice leaf presentation as well as a pleasing vegetal and grassy scent when smelling the dry leaf. Sweet and floral aroma with hints of chestnut or mung bean with subtle fruity undertones and a refreshingly sweet finish.

This tea reminds me of a Silver Needle visually, with fully intact hairy buds, the Jasmine flower flavor is present but not overpowering. Floral notes, with a sweet finish. Jasmine teas are often hit or miss with me some taste artificially flavored, and others present too strong of a Jasmine note but this one hits the marks perfectly.
