Gongfu Sipdown (2384)!

Thanks to iteaworld for gifting this sample.

It’s a pretty easygoing and laid back tea that doesn’t really require a lot of focus with steep times or temperatures. Smooth and medium to full bodied. Early steeps are mostly a bit of a malt bomb that wanes into something just a smidge creamy with a strong fresh baked bread profile. As the leaf gets closer to being spent I keep thinking that it would make a pretty affordable milk tea base; something a step up from the quality of a chain shop but that doesn’t break the bank. No complaints here; relaxed and non-fussy was exactly what I needed today!

A flower scent, beautifully arranged shades of brownish gold and almost completely dark leaves twisted as expected.
The first steeping gives a honeysuckle perfume, followed by a final cedar.
When brewed and sipped, on top of the honeysuckle, brown sugar and malt will be present in your mouth. The final cedar and the characteristics of a superior black tea will be lingering for a while. Low bitterness and astringency, when brewed under 10 seconds.
It was indeed a great experience.

A good hobbit requires a second breakfast and a cloud-covered morning requires a second cup of tea. This beautifully twisted leaf has an aroma of dry desert wood. The golden fuzzy hairs are gorgeous, easily the ones twisted in the dark chocolate-colored leaves. The initial aroma is a bit bready but reminds me a bit more of bread pudding. The taste is delicate at first but then really punches you with some unique notes. They are mellow and refined wheat and rye bread notes with desert dry wood notes. Slight driftwood paired with If you steep longer you’ll also find hints of varnish which is fine but steeping for less than 2 minutes seems to reveal the best notes in my opinion. Heck, I’d say it’s probably better to stick under a minute. The notes stay pretty consistent and mellow with each steeping. The dry woody notes remain.

Yingde Black Tea from iteaworld.com is amazing. Please note: I was offered this tea for free in exchange for my honest review, and I do have to say that I’m very much enjoying this tea! It comes from modern high mountain tea gardens and the rich, sweet taste is wonderful. The tea has a beautiful, roasted smell. It tastes rich in flavour and reminds me of caramel and cocoa flavours. I also love how each infusion alters the taste just a little bit, and the amount of infusions it lasts for demonstrates the high quality black tea that it is.
