121 Tasting Notes
I’ve been hitting duds lately when it comes to drinking black tea, hence why I have been adding a ton of green tea tasting notes. I found this sitting in my cupboard and thought of steeping it. I received this as a sample in the last Lupicia newsletter and I’ve never tried it before. This tea is very light with a subtle taste of strawberry. I’m considering of giving black teas another chance after tasting this one. I can’t go wrong with Lupicia, they’re flavors are usually spot on and delicate. Just stay away from the teas on sale, those tend to be a little funky.
PSA: Don’t try with milk, it’s pretty gross.
Preparation
This is a backlog note from last night but I have quite the story. I steeped this in my timolino and went off to school. I parked my car and quickly grabbed my stuff because a shuttle from the parking lot to the actual campus was about to come. I realized halfway up the hill to class that I forgot my timolino! I wasn’t going to spend 20 minutes just to grab it so I left my mug for when I returned to my car to go home. When I returned, my tea was still hot! This was 4 hours after parking my car and in the cold. Color me impressed!
Onto the tea. I do like this tea mainly for the peppermint. My sore throat has turned into a small head cold so the peppermint has been soothing for me. Also I have tasted other rooibos teas and nothing compares to Mariage’s rooibos for me. They have some body and other rooibos feel like I’m drinking dirty water.
Preparation
I’m taken back to a happy place when I was staying with a friends family in Japan. Every morning when we woke up, we ate thick toast with yogurt and a cup of sencha tea. We’d eat while huddling under the kotatsu and trying to plan out where we’d go that day. That was 6 years ago and I am overdue for a return. Maybe after I graduate and when I save up some money after finding a job.
Enough down memory lane and onto the tea! It’s smooth but full bodied. You can distinctively taste the grassiness but that seems to disappear on the tongue after a sip. There’s no hint of bitterness, just happiness. :)
Preparation
This tea should be named happiness instead of their ‘Happiness’ haha. I need to try Mariage’s green teas to compare though. A place in Palo Alto just opened and sells a wide variety of their teas.
They are so good and so different. MF and Lupicia are by very far my favourite flavoured greens – I wouldn’t want to be without either.
I’m excited to read about your MF impressions, but not so excited about the Palo Alto place – as if visiting my family there needed to get even MORE expensive shopping wise.
I have Bouddha Bleu and when i brewed it, i swore it was the best cup of tea I have had to date. The flavor is consistent and I was able to get almost 6 steeps out of a single serving.
I’ll just say it’s a small place in downtown PA and they have delicious french sweets. :)
I came home from a long day of classes and this is exactly what I wanted. I have a headache and my sore throat turned into an annoying cough. I feel like an old lady because I was in the cafe on campus near my next class and they were playing the music loudly. I should have gone to the library but it’s always a zoo when I go. Anyway this is helping me relax and I really need that right now. Ughhh
Preparation
I got pulled in by the pretty gold tin, but this tea is quite good. It’s like Lupicia’s Genmaicha with Soybean without the matcha. It’s smooth and has a roasted taste, but very clean after a sip.
It’s good, but it’s so similar to other genmaicha teas by Lupicia that I wouldn’t say it’s anything special. But it is a limited time tea so it was worth trying out.
Preparation
This is definitely an interesting tea! It has a grassy base but the bits of fruit and flowers adds a little bit of sweetness. I’m not sure I’m loving the rooibos mixed in with this tea, so I probably wouldn’t purchase this again. It’s good, but I’m not crazy over it.
Preparation
No, definitely not Lupicia’s best fruity/floral green. I honestly had no idea there was rooibos in it until I read your review.
I picked it up because it was a blend and it was 50% off in store. I enjoy momoko more, or if I wanted some citrus, grapefruit green is another good one.
I’m green with envy, seriously – I so wish I had a Lupicia store nearby. Have you tried Bravissimo? I really like that one.
I haven’t! Next time I’m at Lupicia I may ask for a sample. I think they’ll brew tea for you to try but I’m not sure if they do that anymore.
Picked this up recently while I was debating on purchasing a happy bag. I reluctantly pulled myself away from them and purchased some teas I knew I would enjoy. I was very pleased with my happy bag last year, but there was just too much tea for me.
I love genmaicha teas and I had the matcha genmaicha in my happy bag last year so I chose to try this. You can definitely pick up the toasted flavor and a hint of the soybean. This is a tricky tea to brew though, Lupicia recommends brewing it at boiling for 30 seconds. This tea can easily be over steeped so you need to make sure you have a timer or that you’re aware of how long the tea is brewing.
Preparation
I needed a tea that wouldn’t aggravate my scratchy throat more but get some caffeine so I grabbed this. This tea really needs to be brewed at a cooler temperature than what Davids Tea recommends because it’s more floral and less strong. I brew it at 165 instead and for the same amount of time and this tea comes out perfect for me. I don’t think this is the best jasmine tea I’ve had, but it’s ok and I really needed something to get me through 3 back to back phone interviews.
Preparation
I’m hoping this tea will help with the scratchy throat I have had the past two days. I don’t feel like I’m getting sick, but my allergies did act up the other day so this scratchiness is probably associated with it. I have a morning full of interviews tomorrow for a job once I graduate so I really need my throat to be in tip top shape!
The lemongrass and hibiscus really come out in this tea which may be a weird combination for some. I only taste the peppermint as it lingers around on my tongue. This might turn into my go to tea for the evenings but I’ll have to try other herbals by Davids.
Preparation
I made a pot of the most disgusting black tea I have ever had. I won’t name it because it’s a favorite for others but it solidified that I cannot drink black teas. I think they’re too strong for my stomach because this one was quite strong and almost made me spit it back out.
I needed a tea that makes me happy so I brewed this immediately after I dumped the vile tea I brewed previously. Now I’m happy and in love with my cinnamon and apples. I’m sad that I am now out of this tea, but I’ll probably place an order for more soon.
Preparation
It was Harney’s Golden Monkey. I wanted to give plain blacks another shot but they’re way too strong for my tummy to handle.
Oh, I haven’t tried that yet, but I intend on it. and for every beloved tea on steepster, there’s at least a small cohort of people who can’t get on the bandwagon. I felt the same way about Harney’s Vanilla Comoro: it seems the whole world loves it, and I just find it very thin and lackluster. The good news is that there’s enough tea in this world for everyone to find something they love.
I’ve been really curious about this one, I think I might try it out next time around – I love Lupicia’s light, clear approach to black teas.
And have you tried their Cookie? I know you like Butiki’s Caramel Vanilla Assam, so you and Cookie should really get along.
Funny you mention that because today a sample of Cookie just came in the mail!
I’m SO excited about your tasting note now, although I worry I might have raised your expectations too much.
Mmm, just the smell of it. I could live in my tin.
I’ve been wanting to try it since I received an email on how to make a tea au lait with Cookie.
I haven’t tried it with milk, but I’m pretty sure it would be completely ridiculous. Also thinking iced milk tea for summer.
