Dammann Frères Advent Calendar 2022 – Day 9

I’ve made a few notes for this tea in the past; it’s working up to be one of my favourite casual dessert blends. When I finished up my original 100g, I took to refreshing the DF website every now and then, hoping that the 2022 advent would drop so I could justify ordering more of this. That was six months ago. I’m ok.

I got that 100g “refill” but, since I’m gifting it to myself for Christmas, I’m extremely happy to see it included in the advent itself. Hurrah for great creamy mango-almond-biscuit flavouring!

P.S. – I noticed a couple other “no. 9 mangoes” floating around the general Steepster advent note-fest. Good showing.

Flavors: Almond, Biscuit, Creamy, Fruity, Malt, Mango, Stewed Fruits, Sweet, Tangy, Tropical Fruit

Yeah, I’m glad to read a few advents for DF this year as I REALLY wanted to order from DF this year… I’m surprised a tea shop isn’t wholesaleing DF teas in America yet?

tea-sipper

oooo and then the wholesaler would be smart to offer less than 100 grams of each tea…

ashmanra

There used to be a company on the west coast that DID retail a few of their teas loose leaf. If only I remembered the name…but a Google search should turn them up if you hit on the right teas they carried…and illy.com used to carry some once they merged

ashmanra

Nieman Marcus and Bergdorf Goodman used to list a few as well.

OH YEAH thanks Ashmanra for reminding me there WAS a wholesaler for DF that was mentioned a few years ago, but I think it was only for a handful of their teas…

Crowkettle

I can’t recall ever seeing DF in North American stores but they must exist (Amazon easily being the biggest but their selection is poor; there must be better options).

Bio

I started my Steepster loose leaf adventure back in 2012. I can’t say I’m completely new anymore, but I still view oolong as a magical, extraterrestrial creature that unfurls in water.

My favourites are teas like Milk Oolong, Silver Needle, and Japanese Sencha/Gyokuro, or fruity and floral flavoured ones. However, I generally enjoy ALL the teas, including a good old cup of Earl Grey or Breakfast blend.

FAVOURITE INGREDIENTS/NOTES:

SPICES
Ginger, Turmeric, Clove-forward chai, Cardamom

AROMATIC & HERBACEOUS NOTES
Sandalwood, Frankincense, Juniper, Eucalyptus, Mints

Lavender, Jasmine, Rose, Lilac, Violet, etc.

VEGGIE/GRAIN NOTES

Less Preferred Flavours/Ingredients:
Stevia, Apple, Cocoa Nib, Almond, Licorice, Cinnamon-forward blends, Chinese Sencha

Subjective Rating System:
I don’t give a lot of low ratings out, since a) I tend to grab tea I know will appeal to me, and b) I don’t have a lot of strong dislikes.

90-100: Favourites. The Desert Island Teas.
80-89: Loved teas. Possibly staple-worthy.
70-79: Good teas, but I’m less likely to repurchase. Minor quibbles.
60-69: Ok teas. Likely a few preference and/or quality issues.
50-59: Cup of meh. Will do in a pinch.
11-49: Varying levels of undrinkable tea.
1-10: Nightmare tea from the chaos realms. This tea is the embodiment of the primordial swamp, an unholy abomination. It’s very gross and I’m almost positive it doesn’t exist.
