From Teavana

Rich spices intertwine with a delicious Oolong for a tea that the Maharaja himself would love. This is the famed ‘Spice Route’ in your cup: cinnamon, ginger, pepper, cloves, cardamom and nutmeg fuse together to create a robust and celebrated chai tea.

This tea was pretty gross. Mostly tasted like Big Red gum. Overly sweet. Straight cinnamon. Nothing special.

I tried a sample of this in a blend with a chocolate tea and I enjoyed it. I went back and ordered a cup to try the oolong chai on it’s own. I really enjoyed it. The taste overall reminded me of Cinnamon Dentyne Gum.

I love this tea, especially blended with Teavana’s Samurai Chai Mate. You can easily see and smell the spice combination of cloves, cinnamon, pepper, and nutmeg. My only issue is that the spices lose their individuality in the liquor and the tea tastes “one note” when it is not blended with another tea. Overall, a fantastic tea, but not quite worth the price.

I was blown away by the smell of the leaves, it is very strong in spices, and I totally loved that. When I first tasted it the smell was very predominant in cinnamon and clove, the flavor of those two spices overwhelmed everything else, but in general I enjoyed it a lot, its a very strong tea in flavor. I’m really happy I discovered this tea :)!

A lot of cinnamon going on here! I was happy to see the oolong leaves fully unfurl, but mainly this is a strong cinnamon infusion. For cinnamon fiends only!!!!!!! In some ways the identity of the base tea is beside the point.

So I order this tea online so I did not get to smell it first. Once it came I was not so thrilled with the smell. If I smelled it first I probably would not have bought it. HOWEVER I tried it anyway since I had it and turns out I like it. Because of the pepper it smelled really spicy and all and you do taste the spices but it does not overpower everything else that is in.

Another favorite Chai tea from Teavana. Unlike the Roobios Chai, this Oolong Chai tea has a nice cinnamon note.

When I smelled this, I was psyched, because I LOVE spicy chai. Like burn a hole in your throat spicy. As soon as I opened the bag, the pepper tickled my nose and I wanted to sneeze. Perfect! I made this as a latte, and it was a huge success! The pepper is definitely the most prominent spice, with cinnamon and clove closely behind. Although I really do love it, I don’t understand why 1. Dumb teavana uses oolong as a base for this. What a waste of oolong 2. They put so many spices because you can’t even taste half of them.

Love it! Another one from mj1851

I agree with your criticisms. Why the oolong?? I wouldn’t have bought this, but it is decent. The BF gave this to me as a present. He was so sweet to go and try to pick out tea, but he lives in Maryland and so has no clue which teas I drink. “It’s Oprah’s favorite!” he told me proudly. So cute :-)

Too sweet for me. I can see why it’s so popular, though, and I would still recommend trying it. I got a sachet of it in a gift set and found I much preferred it hot and clear. I was thinking about how it was so much sweeter than I like my Chai blends to be and decided to use it as the base in a Chai latte. I made it with vanilla soy and it was okay.
I think the fact that most of the ratings (including mine) focus completely on the Chai part says a lot… Not sure why it is priced as a decent Oolong because there isn’t much Oolong included with all the other ingredients involved.
