From Teavana

Robust infusion of rich spice notes from cinnamon, ginger, pepper and cloves
Maharaja Chai Oolong and Samurai Chai Maté intermingle to form a blend that is bold in flavor and rich in heritage. Ginger, cinnamon, black peppercorn, cloves, and nutmeg harmoniously balance with sweet notes of pineapple, papaya, and star anise. Spicy and rich, this sweet Ayurvedic blend combines oolong, maté and green rooibos in a wealth of flavor.

I remember having a bag of maharaja chai many years ago, so I was happy to see a little sample in a previous TTB. The scent really takes me back. The flavor isn’t very complex. It’s sort of just a tang of cinnamon stick. It’s a little thin, and I never used to drink it with milk, but I tried some this time and think that helped a bit. I’m not really sure what the samurai chai mate adds since I feel like I only taste the other tea. I don’t need more of this one, but it’s always nice to sample some classic Teavana!

So many notes to backlog….

Well, I honestly bounced on some because of the eventual close of the franchise stores, and I have not been to a store in years. This was on my hit list since I did like the Samurai Chai, and oolong chais appeal to me.

Well, it smells like the fall just before Christmas, and it is a very approachable drink. My mom enjoys it even though she is not a Chai fan, and it is flexible hot or iced. It is a jubilee of Chai spices with emphasis on cinnamon, cardamom, and pepper. The papaya peaces are welcomed for fruity flavor while the oolong makes the body a bit more robust, though its very far off in the background. The mate also makes the body a little grassier, but oddly refreshing.

Drinkable and very approachable is how I would describe this tea overall. You can do it iced, with honey, cream, sugar, hot western or grandpa style (with less leaves, and hopefully, the right balance of ingredients). It will be especially useful in the coming fall months-the spices really do help my stomach out.

This is a combination tea, but the flavors did not blend together well. I could clearly taste the Maharaja Chai Oolong and Samurai Chai Mate distinctly. The former is more of an unsavory spice blend than an oolong, and the latter is the best chai tea I have ever had. It still has a pleasant taste, the Samurai being more potent than the Maharaja, but still better is Samurai on its own.

it is labeled as a combination I have them do in store. Doesn’t need sugar, but I personally do not enjoy very sweet tea, so you may like it better if it is sweet. I prefer it hot, but you can enjoy it cold as well. I really enjoy this tea, but the price isn’t as appealing as its flavor.
