an ok tea:

when i smell the matcha powder, i smell vanilla and slight grassy notes.

when i smell the brewed tea , the smell is a bit diluted.

when i taste the brewed tea, the vanilla is very diluted and the grassyness is a tad bit stronger.

even though i used a half a teaspoon, the tea is so diluted i the vanilla is not strong enough to really enjoy it. if i were to use more tea it would probably become bitter and even less enjoyable.

since i was kinda disapointed, i rate this a 50

This is my third sample from the flavored matcha sampler. It’s delicate flavoring with the classic base. The dry leaf aroma is full of beautiful vanilla goodness. The flavor is gently sweet vanilla bean. The aftertaste is really lovely and the best part of this tea in my opinion. The natural-tasting vanilla flavoring lingers long after the sip.

This is delicious but I think I’d prefer vanilla as a component in a flavoring rather than the only thing going on. I can recommend this one, even in the lower flavoring level. I think vanilla may be one of those flavors that you want to be delicate. Although I’m really on a vanilla kick right now and I almost always prefer for it to be punched up about 100 notches. So that I enjoy this in delicate flavoring level is saying something!

Got this sample from NayLynn!
This was from our first swap from forever ago. It’s definitely an oldie bc I think I forgot about it since it’s been stuck in a baggie in a baggie in a baggie in a baggie full of all my other matchas, and this was at the very bottom!

Good, but definitely tasted a bit weird haha. I’ll give this an actual rating when I drink a nice, fresh cuppa!

I knew I only wanted this tea because I wanted to use my new milk frother hehe :)

Water and almond milk
I’m using a scissors from now on… i ripped it open and it dusted the counter top. Not much spilled but still.
We’re enjoying this one. Think the milk and water milk is a bit off but luckily this matcha is good enough that you barely notice. The french vanilla makes me think of silk fabric. Everything about this matcha is so smooth.

1 tsp+ 1 cup cold whole milk*= OH MY LANTA.

*shaken, not stirred

I can’t believe that I am drinking matcha right now. This is not matcha, no way. As if the funny green color of my milk could trick me. Nope. This is not matcha, this is actually funfetti cake batter for astronauts.

The green powder just needs to be rehydrated in some milk for you to feel like your grandma handed you a bowl of funfetti mix to lick after she was done pouring the cupcakes. But all this is happening in an imaginary world without calories or salmonella. Sounds too good to be true, right? Well, this is the reality created by Red Leaf Tea.

And oh my goodness, talk about an energy blast! I feel like the energizer bunny crushing through Ochem, cleaning the house top to bottom, and going for a run…and wait…it’s hardly 11 in the morning. And guess what? No crash. All the glorious caffeinated benefits of matcha without the matcha flavor. The flavor of the vanilla is definitely WHAM, in your face, ready to take your taste buds to a dance party. This is seriously the perfect matcha for dessert lovers who are afraid of the taste of matcha.

Yay, I got this as a free sample from Red Leaf Tea. Thanks so much, I really appreciate the chance to try some of your product before buying! I must confess, I am a matcha novice… I have really no experience with it, but I’ve heard good things from other people here on Steepster, and when I saw that the French Vanilla was available for sampling, I had to give it a go! I decided to follow the directions for a cold latte, minus the ice cubes. So I put 8 ounces of vanilla soy milk in an empty water bottle and added a half teaspoon of the matcha, then shook it vigorously for a few seconds.

I must say, it came out very tasty! I think next time I might try it with 6 ounces of milk instead of 8 (the instructions recommended 6-8) just because I wouldn’t mind a stronger flavor. I figured I’d stick to the lower matcha:milk ratio this time, just because I was unsure whether I would like it or not. Next time, all bets are off! I will say, the vanilla of the soy milk combined with the vanilla of the matcha is lovely. However, I find that this has a light coconut flavor to it as well, so not sure if that’s from the matcha? Either way, delicious creamy vanilla-coconut goodness.

Getting reading to leave town so I had to finish up my vanilla almond milk. I had about 16 oz. of almond milk. Gosh, I’ve got a great idea! Mix in some French Vanilla matcha and pour over ice. Yum, yum, yum!

Courtney

Thanks! I’m on the plane now. The stopover in Montreal means everyone is speaking French. Thank goodness I paid attention in school. :P

caile

That’s good! ;)

Sil

bon voyage!

VariaTEA

Oh French speaking flights, I know them well :P.

Courtney

First leg down. Bonjour Montreal.

caile

That was fast!

Courtney

Haha 4.5 hours from AB to Montreal. I have a connecting flight now home, then another from home to Jamaica.

caile

Haha, well, not that fast then. Didn’t you come from home already?

Courtney

Nope home is Nova Scotia. :)

caile

Oh, that’s nice! I have only been west and never that far east, but I have always wanted to go there as it seems so beautiful. Anyway, enjoy your trip and have lots of fun!!

Sil

Caile – having been to both ends of Canada, it’s well worth the time to go out both ways haha. I love my mountains out west and the ocean there…but damn if the east coast isn’t beautiful and amazing in it’s own way as well.

caile

Yes, I will have to go! :)

Had this as a latte with rice milk for the sipdown. Lovely. Boosting the rating a couple points as this matcha grew even more on me as I figured out my matcha-liquid ratios. I think I may prefer rice milk to skim or almond. Will likely be buying this again, but I’m going to try the Madagascar Vanilla first as a comparison.

OOOOH YEAH! I got it, I got it, I got it! THIS IS IT!

Here’s what I did: I used 1 tsp of sifted matcha, whisked it in a bowl with 1/2 cup of 185 F water. On the side I heated up 1 and 1/2 c of almond milk to approx 170 F and then added it to the matcha mixture. I ended up with 16 oz. of delicious, creamy matcha latte GOODNESS.

I found a way to enjoy matcha and on my second try, too. Not bad. I detect French Vanilla so much more this way as well (even though it is the weakest flavoring grade).

SOOOO GOOD!

(See my previous note to find out about my confusion when I had it with just water).

EDIT: Unfortunately 16 oz. turned out to be way too much and I couldn’t finish it. The specific bitterness of matcha is really, really tasty at first, but then it gets just yucky when you have too big of a serving. At least it turned out to be so in my case. Oh matcha, matcha, we seem to have an interesting relationship.

I’ve sensed the same problem if I make too much. It smells so good you think you have to make a lot and then… the pleasure just slips away. We will have to keep working on getting it right.

Kat_Maria

Yeah, I think next time I will just make half of that!
