From DAVIDsTEA

We’re going crazy for coconuts over here. Why? Because they’re fun, delicious and make an amazing base for a piña colada. And this happy-go-lucky blend of pineapple, mango and coconut is the perfect way to get a taste. Sweet, fruity and delightfully creamy – it’s the kind of drink that makes us want to sip back and relax by the poolside all day long. The best part? It steeps a pretty light pink, thanks to a touch of hibiscus. It’s totally loco coco.

Ingredients: Pineapple, Roasted Coconut, Mango, Apple, Hibiscus, Natural Coconut and Pineapple Flavouring. Contains Coconut.

Price per 50g: $7.98

I love pineapple and coconut together, and thought this blend might make a lovely cold cup. Unfortunately, it smells and tastes awful to me. It’s the worst tea I’ve had in recent memory. I can’t give it another go or try different things with it, I can’t even open the packet again. Just posting this so I don’t accidentally try it again, because I will almost certainly forget about the reaction I had.

Sounds like, unfortunately, the coconut in the blend may have gone sour :(

Nik

Y’think? That could very well be; and, if that’s the case, I’m even gladder I didn’t pull down the tea’s rating with a low score. Entirely my fault. I should chuck it in the bin, then, and not ask around to see if anyone wants the rest. Thank you!

Roswell Strange

Unfortunately coconut is one of the ingredients used in tea blends that has the worst shelf stability. Nuts (particularly walnuts) are the second highest offender. I want to say that the last time we carried this tea was 2021 so it seems likely. Though toasting or “candying” (ie if you see sugar as a sub ingredient) can help extend the shelf life, if it smells sour or alcoholic/fermented that’s a pretty good sign it’s past its prime.

Thank you for the education, I appreciate it!

Mastress Alita’s sipdown challenge: Saturday, March 13th: National Coconut Torte Day Tea #3

I had this last night and tonight.  Thanks very much AJRimmer!  I have been saving this for coconut day.    Oh wow, I really like this!  It is definitely accurate to a pina colada – not that I’ve actually ever had one.  But it’s very fresh coconut but equal parts tangy pineapple.  And that’s all you need here, really.   The description here says it includes mango, which would also fit here and give another fruity layer.  And I DID notice the tiniest piece of hibiscus and that most definitely shouldn’t be here!  Be gone, hibiscus!  But I don’t think I noticed it in the mug.   The flavor here is delightful though.  Fresh, tangy, creamy.  Second steep is also lovely and no hint of hibiscus pink even after a long steep.  And the flavor holds up, even with only one teaspoon, maybe because the pieces are fairly small. I bet this is great cold.  I’ll be saving the sipdown for the hottest of summer days.
Steep #1 // 1 teaspoon for full mug // 12 minutes after boiling // 2 minute steep
Steep #2 // just boiled // 10 minute steep

Mastress Alita

How does it compare to that Zen Tea pina colada tea you shared with me? I loved that stuff but being unable to get more of it (the only places carrying it are Canadian companies with $20 shipping to the US which I refuse to pay), I’ve been looking for a good replacement!

I’d say this is definitely comparable! I still love Zen’s more but this can definitely fit that cupboard niche.

I’ve been meaning to try this tea for a while, and it finally made it into my cart in my last order. The flavor is quite mild and coconuty. The liquid ends up a bit oily and leaves a lot of residue in the mug. There’s a little bit of fruitiness as well, but if you want a cup of mostly coconut, this could be the tea (there are better options though). I wouldn’t get it again myself, but I’m glad I tried it.

I haven’t had this in my cupboard for a long time. It smells better than I remember, actually. Brewed it cold, added ice. A nice coconut-y and tropical iced tea.

This tea is perfect for summertime and hot days in general. Pineapple, coconut goodness! It was incredibly refreshing. I’ve only ever cold brewed it and I’ll do that the next time I drink it. I’m really glad I stocked up while David’s Tea had it available because it’s a favorite of mine now.

It’s summer. It’s hot. This tea iced is perfectly refreshing – coconut, pineapple, tropical, strangely but pleasantly creamy. A great alternative if you want to steer clear of caffeine. It’ll be getting me through the rest of the summer heat for sure. I actually had this a couple of summers ago, and for some reason never reviewed it, I guess. It’s not Bamboozled (nothing will ever be as great as Bamboozled for an iced herbal summer tea), but it’s almost as delicious. It’ll be a summer staple for me – at least it will be as long as David’s Tea decides not to yank it from the roster (I HATE when they do that).

This tea smells like a beautiful combo of pineapples, coconut, mango, pina colada, and cream! I had high hopes for this tea so i was pretty disappointed when I tried it. It tasted like all of this episode falcors but just wayyy too sweet and overpowering! Hard for me to drink so this is a pass for me!

I really wanted to love this one, but tried a couple of times and just couldn’t have more than a few sips, hot or iced. I think it might be good as a cocktail base, but I found the flavors much to artificial and the aftertaste awful. It was just too creamy and oily for me.

Iced, this has all the coconutty goodness that I was looking for. It screams “summer fun” and does indeed remind me of a creamy pina colada. The coconut is the shining star (as it should be) with the tropical fruit undertone dancing in the background. You can taste the tartness from the hibiscus but just a smidge, for once it doesn’t overpower the other flavours and also creates a pretty pink colour. Being a big fan of coconut and teas that are sweet enough without having to add anything to sweeten it up, I really enjoyed this one. I like that it gives me another non-caffeinated option for the evening time as well. Makes for a satisfying sip on a hot summer’s day!

Didn’t mind this one. Lots of coconut flavor with some sweetness from the mango/pineapple. A decent work tea, especially when you’re trying to get more herbals in.
