From DAVIDsTEA

It can’t be helped. As soon as the seasons start to change, we crave all things pumpkin. Whether it’s baked into pies or steeped into lattes, it’s the fall taste we come back to again and again. And in this richly spiced black tea blend, we take pumpkin and spice to a whole new level. With hints of molasses, currants and a touch of garam masala, it’s a warm and cozy hug in a cup. Limited edition.

Yay, finally have internet again. By the time I got to a David’s, the Pumpkin Cheesecake was all sold out. One location even had both sold out so I had to go to another one for this one. Not worth the hassle. The dry leaf smells decent, at least. Like creamy pumpkin spice.

But it lacks in flavour. All I really got were bitter spices. When my mom walked into the room, the first thing she asked was, “Why does it smell like curry in here?” So looks like she picks up on the garam masala notes. Otherwise, nothing else notable here.

TeaBrat

all I got was curry also, not a fan

Kittenna

I didn’t get curry at all. So interesting.

Fjellrev

Well, to me, it smelled like curry but didn’t necessarily taste like it? The spices were just really bitter and muddled. Either way, not a winner in my opinion.

Sipdown (594)!

Finished off this DT Oldie as an iced latte – and it was a sad moment; this is definitely one of the better pumpkin teas that DT has done, IMO. The iced latte was amazing though; definitely still rich and sweet but with a denseness to it and a bit of malt. It’s kind of a pumpkin molasses flavour, and I find it pretty similar to a molasses heavy/chewier sorta ginger snap cookie? When I was like three or four years old, my mom used to drop me off at a family friend’s farm and their older daughter would babysit me. I don’t really remember much of it – I mean, I was four. Just sort of walking around and looking at horses, these horrifying “bedtime” stories she would make up about a psychotic rooster, and that she made the BEST gingersnap cookies. I mean, I’m sure I’m glorifying them a little bit in my head – but I do kind of feel like even today I’ve never tasted a ginger snap better than the molasses-y, dark ones she used to make. This iced latte reminded me of lot of my memory of those cookies…

Sad, sad sipdown.

Friendly reminder that I do not numerically rate DAVIDsTEA blends as I’m currently employed there and it would be an obvious conflict of interest. Any blends you see with numerical ratings were rated prior to my employment there. These reviews are a reflection of my personal thoughts and feelings regarding the teas, and not the company’s.

Evol Ving Ness

a psychotic rooster

I suppose the cookies made up for the trauma of the rooster stories. :)

Roswell Strange

Like, I’m sure that mentally I’m embellishing the stores a little or misremembering/understanding since I was quite young – but I do remember this rooster doing things like tricking the farmers into eating his brothers/sisters when they upset him. Which was sorta scaring as a small, animal loving child (who then later became a vegetarian).

Evol Ving Ness

wow! I can totally see how these stories would have been terrifying to a kid, especially one who loved animals. Maybe they contributed to you later becoming a vegetarian too.

Roswell Strange

Actually, reflecting on it now I feel like the moral was supposed to be “Don’t pick on/bully your siblings because there are consequences to your actions” but as a four year old that was DEFINITELY not my take away.

Mastress Alita

Somehow “psychotic rooster” just makes me think of these awful self published books I have to catalog at work (the “Ross the Rooser” books) just because the author is “local”… but that doesn’t make the books good. Oh, at all. The art looks like colored pencil and the stories are just… so bad. Once my supervisor and myself found 5+ errors on the cover. They are getting worse and worse… I think the last one I had the farmer and rooster went from Idaho to Australia for some crazy reason, with one of the most uncomfortable drawings of Aboriginals I’d ever seen…

Though the title sounds awful, I highly suggest the children’s book “We Don’t Eat Our Classmates” by Ryan T. Higgins. That ended up on my cart to catalog the other day and I died laughing; it was the sort of book I couldn’t just catalog and put back on the cart, I had to read it and laughed through the whole thing. Is it dark humor? Yes, but it is also charming and funny.

This was a surprising tea for me. As soon as I saw garam masala listed as the main “spice”, I either thought it could go really good or really, really bad. To me, it’s somewhere in between, mostly going on the good side.
Unlike DT Pumpkin Chai, this one came across as a little less “pumpkin-y” but still very autumn. It is very savory – I often drink this one in the morning rather than at night because of this. All in all, it’s a good alternative to pumpkin chai.
Like it, but not enough to restock.

I love pumpkin in the fall, but I didn’t like this one near as much as Pumpkin Chai. The taste is not as strong, which I guess is ok sometimes, but I was expecting something a little stronger. I certainly wouldn’t buy this over pumpkin chai.

Kittenna

Interesting – in my opinion this was stronger than Pumpkin Chai, although to be fair, I didn’t brew the two up side by side (and probably won’t, because that would require buying Pumpkin Chai, haha).

Its Halloweek, so the fall teas, especially the pumpkin ones, are in super high demand. Well, around my house, anyway.
This is slightly nutty today. Or maybe that’s just me? (heh)
This is pleasant, but not overwhelmingly good. That’s my opinion, anyway.
Fall!

Ost

Halloweek! Haven’t heard that one before-I like it though! Hehe ^^

Dry nose: Sweet, a little spicy, very fragrant. Carrots, pumpkin, spices.

Tasting notes: Surprisingly good. Not as spicy as it smells. It has more of a pumpkin flavor than the Pumpkin Chai though, which I like. A little sweet, a little savory. Tastes like a fall harvest.

Flavors: Carrot, Fruity, Pumpkin, Vegetables

Boiling 5 min, 0 sec 1 tsp 12 OZ / 354 ML

I found the garam masala! It’s sort of a “be careful what you wish for” discovery seeing as in my last note, I mentioned wanting more of the flavor to come out to separate this tea from others I have had and now I wish it was toned down. Apparently brewing this as an eggnog latte causes all the other flavors to be lost and only the garam masala and creamy eggnog remain. It’s unusual for sure and not in a good way. I won’t be making the tea like this again.

Fjellrev

Yeah, curry-tasting tea just seems wrong.

Kittenna

And then there’s the samosa water that was New Delhi Delight…. (gags).

Sami Kelsh

Yeah, that sounds… no. Garam masala makes for a nice bowl of chickpeas and rice, but tea? Somebody has to have a word with David about that decision, I fear.

Hm. This is creamier than Pumpkin Cheesecake, and it’s… thickness?… lingers in my mouth. I don’t like it as much, it’s a bit cloying for me, without nearly enough spice to help me get through. I do love the garam masala addition – what a great idea! – I just wish it was more prominent in this cup. It is very, very creamy though. Shockingly so. I think a short steep and lower temperature is the best way to get a great cup from this, with some sweetener (6 drops of stevia, in my case).

Try steeping it longer, I think I did mine for 5 minutes and the garam masala is VERY strong :)

MissB

I’m so scared to steep blacks that long – my body hates me after. I do however steep the rooibos version of this really long. Amazing!

Ugh ugh ugh..I have been in warp speed mode at work for the past few days, starting last Wednesday..had an excellent weekend and now back at work. But had my painting class tonight and it went better so that’s a plus, helps me take my mind off all the things I am trying to figure out at work lol (at least not people problems, just ones relevant to projects haha).

This tea was calling my name tonight. Yes it is late, and yes it’s a black tea, but I needed a cozy cup of goodness with some warm spicing tonight. It’s starting to rain outside, so it feels like a nice autumn evening for this one. Oh, the bf also went back to work for 14 days up north, so that always makes my day a little less bright too. Hence the need for good, comforting tea. This is the perfect choice right now. See previous notes!

Meh.

That’s really just about all I have to say about this blend. Meh

It wasn’t good, it wasn’t bad, it was just kind of there. And it’s similar enough to the Pumpkin Chai that I have to wonder why it was necessary? My wife and I shared a pot and couldn’t remember anything about the tea afterwards. I’m making vegan butter “chicken” later this week, the rest of our sample will be used to flavor the rice.
