Maple Sugar

Kinda like drinking cinnamon, maple oatmeal? It’s not super flavorful but it’s not bitter so I like that. Not my favorite, but I’ll drink it :)

I’m not normally a fan of the apple cinnamon flavor combination in teas, but, this tea sounded intriguing. Honestly, I think the black tea base is what drew me in. The dry leaf smelled…interesting. I couldn’t quite make out the scent to be honest, apart from the very mild smell of apples and cinnamon. There’s something in it that I can’t quite place. Unfortunately, the flavor doesn’t translate very well when steeped. I didn’t get much maple flavor at all, sadly. I was able to get through my cuppa, but it left me wanting so much more. Again, the name threw me off completely. The apple pieces added a bit of sweetness, but there was nothing maple sugar-y about this blend.

Cold steeping it really did help. Generally, I find that cold-steeping makes all the flavours blend together more seamlessly, and more mild. I cold-steeped this overnight in the fridge.

I would never buy this tea again, but cold steeping it made it possible for me to complete my sipdown.

There’s a certain character to this that I can only describe as “yeasty”. Not much maple, though I appreciate the appley bits.

I LOVE maple, and I was extremely disappointed by how little this tasted like maple. It had a metallic tinge to it. You could tell it was a black tea more than anything, and there were some cinammon/clove notes. The maple just added some sweetness. It tasted like a very mildly spiced black tea. It was not exactly bad, but was definitely not anything like it was advertised to taste.

This tea isn’t as bad as I was expecting based on the reviews. The cinnamon is a little more present than I would like, but not by much. Sure, it doesn’t scream maple, but there’s definitely a nice maple note. The dry leaf does kind of smell like maple oatmeal to me so I was more expecting that than pure maple and I’d say it’s pretty accurate. Hint of apple as well.

This tea was pretty good. I could taste a hint of maple sugary goodness and apple. It is nothing to freak out over but I did enjoy this cup of tea.

My first cup of this was with milk and honey and I enjoyed it but it didn’t blow me away. I had a re-steep that was black and I didn’t enjoy it as much as the first cup. The predominant flavour that really stood out to me was cinnamon. There wasn’t enough maple flavour and I was left disappointed. I was expecting something better. Still, not bad, just not destined to be a favourite of mine.

My friend wanted a sample of this when she found it in my cupboard, and it smelled so good I had to try some. In the timolino with some sweet creamer this morning. The dry leaf smells like apple crisp and the taste matches the scent of the dry leaf. Streusel and warm pastries. I can’t taste the apple, but that’s okay. I really wish I’d tried this sioner!

Due to the lower rating and the hit and miss nature of black teas for my current palate, I decided to make this sample as a latte. The smell tingles in my nose in a mostly pleasant way. Taste wise, it seems as if something is missing, possibly as this is an old sample. Maybe I want more maple because I like syrup. Happy to have tried this but with so many out there yet to do the same with, this won’t make it on an order.
