From DAVIDsTEA

Ever hear that Quebeckers are obsessed with maple syrup? Well, it’s true. In our Montreal office, it’s not unusual to find people pouring it into their morning oatmeal, over fresh fruit and, of course, into their tea. It adds a hint of warmth and sweetness that’s totally unbeatable. So it was only a matter of time before we came out with this all-natural, maple-sweetened tea. With black tea, apple, cinnamon and real pieces of maple sugar, it’s a warming hug on a fall day – and a delicious taste of Quebec. (MK Kosher)

Price per 50g: $8.98

Finally got around to trying this. The smell kinda reminded me of French toast, the maple and cinnamon scents. It had a too sweet, and mild spicy flavour. There isn’t any apple that I noticed. So I ended up with a cinnamon tea instead.

Meh…doesn’t really taste like maple, although I do taste something artificial in the mix. I can’t really drink black teas often anyways due to my sensitive stomach so once my last bit is gone it will not be replaced.

I reviewed this tea on my blog, and described it as “mimicking the flavor of artifically-sweetened pancake syrup mixed with mild spices”.

I think the odd flavor and sweetness has something to do with it containing monk fruit – which is actually a “natural” sweetener. I tried a sample of monk fruit at a farmers market earlier this year, and wow, it is SWEET with a bizarre aftertaste.

One of my free DAVIDsTEA samples. I didn’t think I would like this, but it’s very good! Mild maple flavor so it isn’t too sweet. You can really taste the cinnamon. This is perfect for a cold winter night.

Not that mapley or sweet, has kind of an odd earthy taste. When steeped a long time (like 15+ minutes) it kind of starts to taste like maple sap, a little. Not a big fan of this. Might be good sweetened with actual maple syrup but I don’t currently have any.

I did not think to add some real maple syrup to the tea – might have helped improve the flavor:)

I cold steeped this one and it was pretty good. I think the name of this tea is totally wrong though, it should be called Apple Crisp, because that’s what it tastes like – apples, cinnamon, brown sugar. It’s not really very mapley at all.

I think I have about 2oz of this to go thru! Ack!

This was not good. I didn’t get any maple. It had a really weird chemical/medicinal smell/taste. The dry leaf smelled really good! I tried without and with sugar and the taste didn’t change. I’m not sure if it’s the black base or what!

Very disappointed in this one though…hope Snickerdoodle is better.

Sorry to hear that you didn’t like this one..:(… If you see something in my cupboard of interest, I’d be willing to swap for some, though!…I have yet to try this.

LOL – I think Maple Sugar is one of the worst teas I’ve tried. I agree with you Darby, it has a weird “chemical/medicinal smell/taste”. It contains monk fruit (a sweetener), and I think that is the culprit. I’ve tried a sample of monk fruit (sugar) at a farmer’s market, and it is crazy sweet with the strangest aftertaste.

Isn’t it funny how different the tasting notes are on the same tea? People seem to love it or hate it.I was sort of reluctant to try it but I am really glad I did. I am really enjoying this tea. :-) I do tend to like sweet and flavored blacks. I was all set to have to add maple syrup but I didn’t need to.

I know, it’s funny how people have such varying perspectives on a tea! I did not like this tea, but glad you did:)

This was slightly sweet and a little bit maple tasting, but something was missing here. Not sure quite what it was as I had this quite awhile ago.

This has got to be among the worst teas I have ever tried, end of statement. The maple flavor is just too strong. You would think that a Canadian company would get maple right but they didn’t. I am annoyed that I paid ten bucks for this. I hope the other teas in the Maple collection that I bought are better.

I brewed this once in an 18oz teapot with 3 tsp leaf and boiling water for 4 min.

Maybe you could put it up for swap/sale on Steepster. :)

It was a little better towards the end where all the sugar I added got to.

AllanK

I wonder if a lower temperature would make the maple flavor less intense? It works with bitterness, maybe with other flavors?

TeaBrat

I wonder if you can take it back?

Tealizzy

I was definitely not a fan of this one. I’ve heard the others in the collection taste better, but I haven’t tried them myself. Good luck!
