Mint To Be (Organic)

The moment of truth…this tea is not how I remembered it. Not drastically different but not the same either. I recalled this being a York peppermint patty. Instead there is a stronger dark chocolate element. Is there even chocolate in this?!? It is rich and creamy and tastes like an After Eight which is fudgier and less fluffy than a York Peppermint Patty. Not a bad cup, just not what I remembered. I am still deciding if that is good or bad.

This I just had to try ASAP. For one, I’m a coconut whore, and secondly, I love mint. So theoretically, this should be a win, right?

The dry leaf is mostly pepperminty, kind of like an After Eight. So far so good. Smells mintier than Read My Lips. But I’m not really picking up on the coconut.

Taste-wise, it’s basically like a creamier Read My Lips. End of story.

Ok, well, it’s not as sugary due to the lack of sprinkles which makes this more appealing, especially when you don’t want dyed sugar mucking up the waters. The creaminess is a little vague. I couldn’t taste coconut at all. Not even a bit. At least not until I got to the last two sips of my Nordic mug that I realized, huh, ok, there’s a bit of coconut coming out of hiding. But it’s kind of artificial. Actually, more like their white chocolate flavouring.

So again, tl;dr: creamier, less sugary Read My Lips. Kthxbye.

The dry leaf for this tea smells so, so good. It smells like everything i’d hoped Santa’s secret would smell like but didn’t. I found Santa’s secret to taste like a very generic, mint black tea. I also didn’t like the peppermint in it—it seemed rather sharp, a bit grating on the throat, and just unremarkable in the grand scheme of things.

I found it interesting that DT suggests a brew time between four and seven minutes, because despite liking a strong black tea, I wouldn’t steep most for seven minutes. I steeped this one for five, and imagine I might like it at four, even.

This tea still tastes creamier than Santa’s secret, and I find the mint to taste a bit more muted and gentle. I don’t really get any coconut at all, although maybe a distant hint of butterscotch or, as variaTea suggested, dark fudge—something is lurking around in the distant leaves, that’s for sure. I got a little too much base, which I didn’t find jived well with the creaminess I was hoping to elicit, so that’s why i’m hoping a shorter steep time will result in a creamier cup. Overall, I’m not blown away, but I do find I enjoy it more than Santa’s secret, and I’m happy to try it again.

I tried this as a sample when it had no name, but thought I would order a bag to try again and form a real opinion. Firstly, good lord has my steeping skills improved since I first brewed this up! I consider myself fairly well versed in mint teas, they are a favourite of mine. I have oodles of Read my Lips, Santa’s Secret, White Chocolate Frost, and Mint Julep and I wondered if this really could be that different. Apparently it can…

I actually thought this tasted closest to the White Chocolate Frost in that the mint was strong and I got a lot of the white chocolate flavouring. The coconut and black tea helped by adding some interesting base notes and an overall creaminess to the flavour. Admittedly, I like mint teas. A lot. But I think this was a really nice, creamy, chocolate mint.

Because this is my first note, it’s the one people will read and this might dissuade people, but it’s funny: I drank this and it made me think of toothpaste. Or fluoride.

I got a small amount of this yesterday, along with the Lovebirds mug…which I adore.

I think I might prefer Santa’s Secret a little more because the mint is more candy-like, as in candy canes, but this was a decent cup of mint tea, since I’m not especially fond of mint teas. The mint does dominate the tea, but I think I can taste what I perceive to be the coconut. I think the coconut might tone the mint down just a wee bit, and make it a little less sweet and overpowering. But I’m not sure. I made this with milk and sugar, but I may try it without the milk on a later steeping/ I’ve got 16g of this to play with.

Made a big cup of this in my new DavidsTea mason jar…holy cow this sucker is huge! But onto the tea. I agree with the other reviewers who said it’s like a creamier Read My Lips, but it doesn’t have the chocolate aspect, which makes me very happy. The girl in store told me it tastes like Santa’s Secret, which it does…to a point. The mint is more…minty than Santa’s Secret, and it doesn’t seem to have the same vanilla creaminess. So I guess it’s more creamy than Read My Lips but less creamy than Santa’s Secret. I only get the faintest hint of coconut. Overall, I love it and if I ever run out of Santa’s Secret, I’m glad to know I can fall back on this. However, I won’t be stocking up any time soon, because I already have so many teas that are so similar (Read My Lips, Santa’s Secret, Cocomint, to name a few)

Sipdown! This came as one of the free samples in our most recent order. We finally got around to trying this little oddity, and it definitely lives up to the new name. I was hoping for more coconut, but this really is all creamy mint. I’m not in love with it, but I do love the idea that while we found enjoyment in it, there’s one less little tea scrap in the cupboard. Yay!

Dry Leaf Nose: The mint is prevalent with the chocolate coming through in the background.

Liquor: Dark red brown liquor with a minty tea aroma followed by a cocoa chocolate note

Flavour: The rich chocolate and tea notes are heightened by the peppermint. This classic flavour combination reaches a new level as the tea adds a richness, liveliness and caffeine kick to the blend.

I think I’ve decided I don’t like minty teas as lattes… I felt as though I was left wanting with this one.
