From DAVIDsTEA

Pie in the sky

When it comes to dreaming up new teas, sometimes inspiration just randomly strikes. It usually happens in the middle of a really great dessert. So you can probably imagine how this decadent flavour came to be. We’ll give you a hint: it involved a chocolate banana cream pie. We tried out dozens of blends before we found the perfect one – a rich, chocolatey black tea blend with pieces of ripe banana and creamy white chocolate. It tastes like a dream come true.

Ingredients: Black tea, cocoa nibs, banana pieces, white chocolate, cocoa powder.

Price: $7.00 per 50g

Got a sample of this with my DAVIDsTEA order last week. Brought it to work with me to start off the morning. Unfortunately, it’s just too frou-frou for me. At least to start off this morning. I wish I had something more basic but malty, instead of this.

Maybe I’m “growing out” of flavoured teas? I’d rather have a really good plain black than something with all kind of stuff added to it.

I have been going through my cupboard in order to clean out what I don’t drink when I stumbled upon this tea again. I remember wanting to try it as a latte and finally got around to it. I think this tea is perfect in a latte form! I used unsweetened vanilla almond milk for the base and couldn’t be happier. Now I only wish I had more. :-/

One thing’s for sure. This tea smells like a dream come true. If it smelled any more like a chocolate banana cream pie, I’d be tempted to eat the tea leaves. Seriously. The tea is filled with generous chunks of banana, cocoa and white chocolate.

The tea steeps to a dark orange, with an oily layer on top (due to the chocolate, probably). Even steeped it smells great, although it’s more chocolate and less banana at this point. As soon as you take a sip, the chocolate hits your tongue, and the banana lingers in the aftertaste. Thankfully, it’s a candied banana flavour – my favourite.

Milk and sugar make this tea even better. But if you’re adding sugar, I feel that just a sprinkle doesn’t work with this one like it does with other teas. I threw in twice the amount I usually do (which is still only half a teaspoon). The creaminess of the milk turns this tea into a decadent dessert!

This tea is also incredible chilled! I suggest trying it alcoholic if that’s your thing – I could see it being delicious with a splash of Bailey’s.

This tea is decadent. I’m in chocolate banana heaven, and I’m not even that fond of bananas. I suggest steeping this tea for less than the max 7 minutes (as it can get a little bitter), and in my opinion, it’s best with milk & sugar! This isn’t one of my favourite teas, but it definitely does what it set out to do – imitate a chocolate banana cream pie.

This is the last of the Winter Collection Sampler I got for my birthday. Truthfully I had forgotten about it and then when I remembered I was going thru an anti banana mood. For me bananas are really touch and go, I have to be in the right mood to enjoy bananas or banana flavors. (Interestingly enough I alot of times enjoy artificial banana taste even when not in the mood for actual bananas. Yeah I know, I am weird;))
Only by adding more Apriva and a big dollop of honey was I able to make this tea drinkable and since I havn’t finished the cup yet, I still may end up throwing this out. As for the chocolate in the tea: As of yet I have not had good luck in finding a chocolate tea that I like. Most of the time it just tastes like heavily watered down hot chocolate. What doesn’t help is that my desire for chocolate has really gone downhill in the past 5 years or so. It is possible that I’ll be inclined to finish this bag, or see if my Dad likes it. If he does, then he might be inclined to order more, and maybe I can add to his order! LOL. Though I need to try more samples of theirs 1st, because without being able to sniff a tea before buying, it’s hard to convince myself to buy 50 grams or 1-2 ounces of tea. And not a lot of the tea that I want to try is in a sampler set. (Like so many that I took well over an hour going over each section and writing down the ones I thought looked good and the list in a ‘Tea File’ on my harddrive, got similar for the other companies I am interested in.

I love bananas, but I despise anything artificially banana flavored. This is a tea I would have never bought for myself. My bf got me a wonderful array of DT for Christmas and this was one of the samples. I just got around to trying it…figured I would get out of my comfort zone. Wow!! I have ordered an entire tin! That’s how good it is. Very rich and almost creamy. The banana and chocolate are a perfect pair. This is such a great treat! Thank you DT! I love most dessert teas from David’s but this is one I’m so glad I received as a sample!

As a tea, this was OK but I liked it alot better as a latte. As a tea, I found that the flavour got old pretty fast and tasted somewhat artificial. I will not be going back to get more once I run out but will finish the 25g pouch that came in the Winter Collection.

YUM! I love this tea! It tastes exactly like banana cream pie, but in a delicious black tea. It’s a sweet tea, but not too decadent. I like to have it on occasion after supper as a light desert.

This might be my current favorite tea!!! I love having it with agave and when I’m feeling indulgent, Silk’s soy creamer for coffee. It is very sweet and flavourful, if you like dessert style teas, this is the ultimate. DavidsTea will stop selling it in March 2013 so definitely get some in your mug ASAP.

Ok,where the heck is my white chocolate pieces, there is NO white chocolate in my whole 100g tin…I might contact them about it as I LOVE chocolate. The tea smells good, brews very dark I taste a hint of banana with some sweetness but it is a very dark black tea I like my teas without sugar or milk and I think with sugar and milk it became closer to banana cream, but I would like more banana flavor. I might just add some extra dehydrated bananas to my tea tin and some chocolate chips!.
