From DAVIDsTEA

Yo ho ho-conut

Hot buttered rum is so delicious we want it all day long. Unfortunately, most employers frown on workplace drunkenness, so we came up with this rich and creamy alternative. Toasted coconut and vanilla beans mingle with black tea in a caramelized caress of flavours. Decadent hot or iced, it also blends perfectly with dark rum, brown sugar and a dash of milk – so go ahead and indulge your inner pirate, off the clock. (MK Kosher)

Ingredients: Organic: Fair Trade Certified Black tea, coconut flakes, vanilla beans, cornflower petals. With organic and natural flavouring*.

This tea was a little odd – I kept getting butter notes from it and zero rum! Made me feel like I was drinking smooth butter…kinda turned me off in a way. Somehow I think the lavender and coconut mixed is the culprit of that one :P
As my cup cooled down though, I started getting a pleasant nutty taste with a hint of sweetness from the vanilla and it made the cup a lot easier to drink.

Would I buy this again? Errr…no. But it’s honestly not bad if you don’t drink it right away.

Used to be one of my favourite tea, but I can hardly stand the smell of it now, funny how taste changes…

Yvonne

I know, eh? One day I find myself liking something and the next day hating it sometimes…:P Funny how things work out.

When they say buttered rum, I tend to think dark rum with brown sugar and spices. This is not that kind of buttered rum. It’s more a hot coconut rum with sugar and vanilla kind of drink.

Not a favourite, but I’ll probably finish the package I bought.

Yes, this is EXTREMELY sweet. Like, extremely. At my first initial sips I found it too rummy, but by the time I finished the cup, I felt kind of sick. Had the same experience on the second cup. To be honest, since I only bought a small amount (20g) I just tossed the rest. I don’t drink tea to feel sick. D:

OMGsrsly

It’s weird because I loooove buttered rum (I make my own mix!), but this just doesn’t even come close to the flavour I expect. I might end up tossing what I have left. There’s something about it that I just don’t care for.

Yeah, I’m surprised at how well received this tea is. For a bit there I was enjoying it (I likened it with those snowball chocolates) but in the end it was just sickeningly sweet.

To be honest, I actually hate rum! Ha! I bought it because I was intrigued by the coconut and vanilla.

I got this tea in a swap. There was JUST enough leaves to make a small cup of tea.
The dry leaves smell just like butter. As it steeps it still smells like butter. I can already tell this is going to be really good, or really horrible.
Right now I’m tasting buttered popcorn. Not exactly what I expected, but different. I’m even getting a hint of salt.
This is a good cup of tea, but I don’t think drinking a cup of buttered popcorn is something I could enjoy frequently.
After reading all the reviews I really feel like I am missing out with this tea due to the lack of leaves. So I am not giving it a numerical rating and I am going to wait until I can get a decent amount of leaves.

I got a decent amount of this from a couple of Father’s Day samplers and have tried this with a bit of rock sugar. It’s quite delicious this way. Creamy, rummy and vanilliay! Mmmmmm!

So tonight I decided to up the ante a bit. I have this really tasty Hot Buttered Rum Batter ( http://liquor.com/articles/in-defense-of-hot-buttered-rum/ ) in my freezer. I have used this to make said drink and it’s pretty good. But I had a lightbulb moment tonight – what if I combine the batter with some brewed Buttered Rum tea and a healthy dose of the Captain’s Spiced Rum. Well, let me tell you this is FANTASTIC! I won’t be making it a habit (because it’s ridiculous calorie-wise), but I’m keeping this in mind when the weather cools off considerably.

Will be ordering one of the larger amounts Buttered Rum once I place another DT order!

I’m home for the Easter weekend and I found a wonderful little four cup teapot today for a great price. I can’t wait to knit a cozy for it :D

Anyway, I made this and definitely got to taste some of the creamy, rummy deliciousness I see everyone else talking about. And then suddenly, the horrible salty taste of San Angelo water overpowered everything else. I couldn’t even finish the poor cup. I’ll have my Brita filter pitcher over the summer at least. Hopefully that will help. And if not, I guess I’ll just stock up on water from the store :(

it is getting ready to rain…needed something to warm me up. Now my bag is empty. Better savor this cup. Not going to be able to buy some until I get through a bunch of my other tea.

EDIT: Tragedy struck. My drink got knocked over and it all spilled out. Worst part, the room now smells delicious. SOB

I wonder if my stash of this is stale… my friend told me it smelled like cat pee and now when I sniff it it just doesn’t smell delicious at all anymore :/

Sil

I’ve never had buttered rum, but this mix of flavors sounded delicious, so I had to try it! This tea is sooooo creamy and sweet. It’s also kinda rummy! Surprise, surprise! Haha. It also has a sweet coconut flavor to it, so I’m thinking its kinda like coconut rum! Not bad! I think this tea would be particularly awesome on a cold icky day. It does have a little artificial note to it, but who cares, it’s good! Definitely takes care of a sweet tooth!

Nxtdoor

Love this one still.
