From Butiki Teas

Foxy Roxy’s Banana Walnut Treat utilizes our Congou Keemun as the base which provides an interesting contrast with the sweet banana flavor. We also added a touch of walnut which melds nicely with base without overpowering the banana flavor. One of our customers, Foxy Roxy, contacted us to suggest a banana Keemun blend. Since we were already working on a banana tea, we decided to test it out and we were quite surprised by the deliciousness of this combination.

Ingredients: Congou Keemun (Black Tea), Organic Walnuts, Freeze-Dried Banana Slices, Organic Lotus Stamens, Organic Natural Flavoring (vegan)

Recommended Brew Time: 3 minutes
Recommended Amount: 2 teaspoons of tea for 8oz of water
Recommended Temperature: 212 F (boiling)

The dry leaf is really attractive and smells wonderful.

I made my cup of tea by steeping 2 teaspoons of tea in a cup of near boiling water for about 4 minutes.

I am enjoying this cup of tea, but to me the flavoring is very weak. I’m not really sure that I taste banana or walnuts. The black tea is excellent. So smooth and no bitterness or astringency. The aftertaste is short and clean, with maybe a hint of the walnut? There is a slightly sour, slightly fruity taste that I think must be the banana, but it really isn’t terribly distinct for me. Maybe it’s the taste of a slightly green banana? I’m not sure. I find the flavoring very subtle, more so than I typically prefer.

First time trying this and I think I let my tea leaves sit in the cabinet for too long as I’m not getting a lot of flavor out of this.

The tea leaves look beautiful with the big chunks of walnut and banana. I broke mine up to make measuring easier. Brewed, it’s relatively light. It smells wonderful, like a banana nut muffin.

I’m withholding a numerical ranking on this one because I’ve had it a long time, not kept airtight, and I think the weakness is likely my own fault. The taste that is there is nice, and brightens with sugar.

I finally got to try the legendary Foxy Roxy today, thanks to lolainred. Nobody does banana tea like Stacy! This one isn’t quite as amazing as Banana Walnut Butterscotch, in my opinion, but it’s close! It tastes like a slice of banana bread fresh from the oven…rich banana flavor with a hint of nuttiness and just a little bit of sweetness. So yummy!

With unbelievable sized chunks of walnut and banana, this blend looks and smells completely amazing. Definitely got a banana and walnut cake thing going on. The tea base gives it a nice malty tone.

Trying a slightly different method for this, as my Gongfu teapot is already out I will be using that. Roughly 7g (considering there are many super huge chunks there too) with 200ml boiling water for a couple of minutes. I will re steep but will need to judge that after I taste it to determine times.

Flavour – warm malt tones with a little spice, a touch of nutty dryness and a lingering after taste of sweet banana. Strength is perfect and the flavours compliment each other extremely well. It’s not overtly sweet but it does have some natural sweet tones which help keep it light.

Steeping my second pot for another minute reveals a steep of equal strength and flavour. Looks like this will be good for another two or so steeps :)

Husband loves it, says he can really taste banana and walnut bread. Got a super craving for some now, will have to drink enough of this tea to suppress it.

All in all this is a wonderful blend, another to add to my favourites from Butiki.

This tea came from NayLynn! I do like banana, but I wasn’t so sure about the walnut, as walnuts aren’t generally my favorite. But onward, for science! I must say, the black tea leaves in this tea are huge! I figured it was one of the Taiwanese teas, but saw that it’s a Keemun when I looked it up. Wow, I have to try this Keemun plain sometime! There are whole walnuts and big pieces of dried banana mixed with the leaves. Dry scent is sweet and lovely authentic banana with creamy nuttiness. I steeped 2 teaspoons for 3 minutes at 200 degrees.

Once brewed, the tea smells strongly of banana (real banana, not candy) and some other fruit that I can’t identify. I assume it’s coming from the base tea. Yum, this is very banana. There’s also a nice mildly nutty creaminess that pairs nicely with the banana. Honestly, I don’t get much from the base other than a floral note at the end. I wish I could taste it more, but I am happy with the lovely banana.

I gave this tea a try before bed last night. The keenum base is great mixed with the banana and walnut. Love it. I was expecting the banana to be a tad bit stronger, but it blended well. I will be giving this one another go at work today. All 3 teas I ordered are a hit! I love it when that happens.

So this is another tea from, Sarsonator! ^^
I never purchased this tea because I probably wouldn’t like it if it were overwhelmingly nutty. But Sarsonator generously offered to send me a sample of it! Because she is just freakin’ awesome like that!
I over steeped it by a few minutes on accident, so this review might not be AS accurate as it could be. But I’ll do it right when I re-steep it. :P
This one surprised me even so! I can definitely taste the walnut, but it’s not too much or anything. It goes nicely with the banana flavor. It’s not too much of either flavor. Just the perfect amount of both.
Leaves a pretty strong banana after taste though, but not anything to complain about-haha!
Another fantastic tea from Butiki! Thank you so much for the sample, Sarsonator! :D

I got this as one of my Butiki samples (they allow two samples with every order). This tastes great! I was looking for a banana flavored tea and this was perfect. The flavor is bold but not overpowering, and it is a more natural flavor rather than artificial. I added a little sugar to this and it really brought out the flavor. My only complaint is that it loses its flavor quickly; by the 2nd steeping the tea flavor was still there but the banana nut flavor was very significantly reduced… but I suppose that is to be expected with these types of teas. Definitely something I would order again, and I could easily see this becoming one of my favorites over time.

Oh myyyyyy.

I used 1 tsp in about 3 oz, in my brand new gaiwan of supremely beautiful beauty! I steeped for 3 min, then did a 2nd steep for 3 min and put both steeps in a mug with some almond milk and maple syrup. I love this!

It seems like a dessert tea to me, so I just went right in for the milk/sweetener.

I just drank a very unpleasant dirt shou, but this is making me forget all about it! Nice job Stacy and Foxy!!!!! <3

Yay, and phew!! So relieved you liked it :-)

AllanK

The idea of maple syrup in tea never occurred to me. Did you use sweetened almond milk?

SarsyPie

You know, Allan, it never occurred to me either! I learned that trick on Steepster!

No, I always buy unsweetened milks now, so I don’t automatically get the benefit of the built-in sweetener. :)

AllanK

I don’t generally put milk in tea but if I did it would be almond milk. I don’t drink dairy milk for health reasons. Now I am trying to think of some teas to add maple sugar or maple syrup to. I have maple sugar at home but not maple syrup. I might try adding maple sugar to a puerh tomorrow.

Ost

I really need to try this tea…
Is it really nutty because that’s why I’ve been on the fence about buying it.

SarsyPie

I don’t drink dairy either, Allan. Different reason, same result. I really like almond and coconut milks, or there’s a great almond/coconut blend I get also. Let me know how you like the maple sugar!

And I think I may try a little maple in my next shou… good idea!

Ost – I didn’t find it overly nutty. I thought the nutty flavor was noticeable, but everything just blended nicely into a banana nut bread flavor. If you’re still hesitant, I can send you a little to try. :)

Ost

:O I would really love to try it. Just gotta let me know what I can send back to you! XD

SarsyPie

Mmmmkay… PM me your info. :)

mrmopar

What was the unpleasant shou you had?
Allan is a great guy I pulled to this site. You may want to include him in your circle.

SarsyPie

This one, mrm. Did not care for it AT ALL. Lol

I’m following Allan and I’ve been enjoying his notes :)

mrmopar

I may agree with you on that one. Thanks for giving Allan a shot. We have been friends on another site for a while now. I was glad to see him on here.

TheTeaFairy

Following Allan also :-)

SarsyPie

MrM – It was so earthy. It tasted like just dirt… no chocolate or leather or other notes of anything else. I just couldn’t even finish the cup. I want to love the shou!!!!!!!!

YUM! This is good! I love the pairing of the malty keemun with the walnuts and banana. The banana is super natural tasting, as if I’m eating a firm, sweet yellow banana! I found the blend overall pretty sweet too.

If you let the tea cool a bit, the banana flavor comes out more. FRBWT resteeps fairly well, but without much in banana flavor so you get to enjoy the keemun and walnut.
