From 52teas

So, yesterday was Steven Moffat’s birthday. For my customers who don’t know who he is, I feel for you. For those of you who don’t care, please forgive my self-indulgent nerd fest this week; this week’s tea will probably “not compute” if you are not a Dr. Who fan.

If you happen to be someone from the BBC’s legal department, please don’t sue me. As cool as it would be to be sued for my Dr. Who fandom, I really don’t have any money, and it would be a shame to “Exterminate” 52teas. We’re mostly harmless (to mix nerd references).

So, I’m sure you are wondering, what exactly is a Weeping Angel tea? Well, what else could it be, but a tea flavored like my favorite Dr. Who snack? It’s a buttered toffee caramel corn flavored black tea, and it’s heavenly–amazing enough to make a weeping angel smile.

But… Don’t Blink! This one will be gone before you know it.

Em sent me a bit of this to try and I’m enjoying it while I watch the Doctor Who Christmas special! This is a really nice tea with a sweet caramel-y flavour. It’s pouring rain outside and this just makes me feel all warm and cozy inside. _

TeaLady441

Doctor Who Special! I really need to catch up. :O

Valerie

Man it’s depressing. Poor Doctor. :(

Swap from Alphakitty!

This one, once brewed, smells kinda like a hazelnut coffee…totally not what I expected. But it smells absolutely delicious!

What I’m getting in the tea is different, though. I’m getting the black tea base, some buttery popcorn taste, and a light caramel/toffee (toffee is a bit more pronounced) mixture. It kinda does remind me of coffee, actually…just not as potent. It’s a subtly sweet tea, with a nice toffee corn aspect. Reminds me of those Christmas-time popcorn ball things…only with black tea. Pretty good.

I’ll have to have the rest of this one while watching “Blink” with my sister when she comes home on Friday, just for reasons…

Received a sample of this in a swap from someone but I’m afraid it’s been so long that I can’t recall who. It’s a miracle that I even got around to drinking it with a newborn around so let’s just focus on that!

Unfortunately I had no idea what flavored I was supposed to be tasting as I drank this, since the description was wiped out on this new version of Steepster. So I was going in blind.
It reminded me a bit of Kusmi’s Caramel tea. No popcorn or buttery toffee taste that I noticed. (I looked it up right now on the website). I found the flavoring very mellow and subtle, which can be looked at two ways -

1) since when I was pregnant I was immensely turned off by the smell of all my flavored teas, the fact that this wasn’t super flavored (aka fake/chemical) tasting to me may be a good thing
2) I kinda wish it had been more tasty…buttered toffee caramel corn sounds delish.

This tea is at least a year old since I received it before I got pregnant, so that might have something to do with the lack of amazing tastiness, but from what I recall of the 52teas I’ve tried, most have underwhelmed me anyway.

edited to add: I should probably comment on the Dr. Who-ness of this blend. I don’t get it, Weeping Angels don’t go well with delicious caramel popcorn in my mind. But I suppose I wouldn’t drink evil, pigeon poop flavored pu’erh tea anyway (because pu’erh tastes like fishy dirt to me, so there’s an association I can back!!)

I bought this one because my 16-year-old son just loves Dr. Who. I thought it would be fun for us to drink it together when he comes to visit. So we’re sitting here watching Dr. Who, and I brewed it up. I have to say it doesn’t live up to its delicious scent. It has a smooth base, and if I really, really try, I can taste the caramel—especially after it has cooled down a bit. My son just thought it was OK. I think I really could have sold him if I’d brewed the Butterbeer instead.

which Butterbeer tea?

Rachel Sincere

52 Teas had a Butterbeer flavor a while back. To me it tastes like melted butterscotch hard candy. It’s amaaaaazing.

It’s a bit late for me to be drinking black tea, but I feel like I have to keep up with the Twelve Teas of Christmas. I’ve already been bad about logging a few of them already, so here we go! This tea smells a bit astringent to me and I steeped it for around 2 minutes, 30-45 seconds. I’m really not sure what to expect… eh..

Sipping… This is not as astringent as I thought it would be, but it tastes like a cheap black tea to me. It’s just really not giving me any sort of flavor besides tea.. and tea without any dimensions. This would be fine if it wasn’t supposed to be something unique, but this is 52Teas we’re talking about! Some of the best flavored blends come out of this company! I’m staring down at my cup shouting… “WHY!!!!! I’m not getting anything from you!” Well, that’s okay, I’m looking forward to tomorrow’s cup. Hopefully it will be better! I received this from alphakitty

I dunno what happened but I am getting mainly some astringency with the faintest hint of caramel goodness. Had to toss it.

This is kinda like mild caramel, both in flavour and scent. Don’t really get any of the toffee popcorn, but maybe I should drink it with Doctor Who.

Drank so much tea yesterday, but decided I’ll just have to try them all again to post tasting notes :) Had this for a second time this morning. Really enjoy the nutty flavor. Great with a little sugar and milk (I’m obviously not a purist). Bonus: the Doctor Who reference is awesome. Weeping Angels are the scariest of the monsters, but they make a delicious tea :)

Black tea caramel corn, that’s what this is suppose to be. OK, black tea – check, caramel – check, corn – not so much. It’s sweet, mellow, nice, black tea. I’m not sure it lives up to all that’s promised, but it’s good. I enjoyed this sample that JackieT sent me. Thank you.

Edit: It was bothering me that I’m not getting the corn part of this. What I thought it was missing was the salty. Caramel corn is sweet and salty, so I added some salt. Not a lot just a couple of grinds of the salt mill. Yeah, no. Now it’s just salty caramel. Still don’t get the corn. Oh well worth a try.

I was a bit worried when I smelled the leaf. It smelled of caramel and … something funky. Wouldn’t know how to explain it. My worries melted away after I steeped it though. Apparently this tea just has a bit of a funny dry smell! :)

I couldn’t find any steeping instructions on the website, but maybe I was just impatient and didn’t read thoroughly enough. This is already later than I should be having a black tea as it is, so I was in a bit of a hurry to get this going. So I went with the assumption of one teaspoon per 8oz, used boiling water, and steeped for three minutes, which is always safe for a black tea.

Anyway, yum yum~ :D This tastes like caramel popcorn! Makes a great dessert, but I wouldn’t drink this every day. For a sweet tooth day, I’ll definitely be scooping some of this up, putting in a little milk and sipping happily with no guilt.

I am going to adjust parameters for the next cup though. This tastes really good, but I do feel like it’s not at its full potential for delicious. Perhaps I should try a four minute steep. That works well with the Coconut Cream Pie. :)

I’ll enjoy this pouch to the end, but this isn’t a re-order for me. Meanwhile Blueberry Cream Cheese Danish and Coconut Cream Pie I’d have on hand all the time if I could for my dessert cravings. :)
