659 Tasting Notes
Got lost in my computer program and oversteeped this. While it’s still good (this tea is mostly apple pieces so it’s hard to really ruin it) it does lose some of the sparkling lime taste that it has when it’s steeped properly.
Preparation
One of my favorite teas ever. This was David’s tea of the month last June, and I can definitely see how this light, refreshing flavor was designed for summer. But I like it so much I need it year round. I think there’s more fruit in it than tea leaves; citrus and apple are the strongest flavors and there’s some creaminess from the yogurt. It’s beautifully balanced and just delicious.
Preparation
I don’t like chai and I don’t like rooibos, so it’s a surprise to me that I actually find this tea pretty pleasant. It smells tantalizingly of gingerbread cookies but the flavor is a little harder to pinpoint. A light spice blend is about as close as a I can come. I don’t taste coconut at all in this, unless it is the flavor that is sort of mellowing everything out.
Preparation
The first time I tried this I felt like I wasn’t getting the full flavor, so this time I steeped it with extra tea leaves. The results were a bit strange. I really taste the rose now, but the peach and jasmine flavors have completely disappeared. I’m sort of getting the feeling that this tea is not for amateurs. It has to be prepared exactly a certain way, and I’m still figuring out what way that is. The reason I can’t give up on it is that it smells absolutely amazing, and as for three wishes, well my first wish is that I manage to translate that aroma into a delicious cup.
Preparation
I’m really not sure how I feel about this one. I’ve never had candy stuff in my tea before and I can’t decide whether I like it or not. The dominant flavor is peppermint, but like, candy cane peppermint rather than the leaf. I’ll try to make up my mind after I’ve had it a few more times.
Preparation
Got this as a free sample, otherwise probably wouldn’t be drinking it as I’m just not a darjeeling girl. There is something about the flavor that I associate with teabags (even though this is loose leaf); wish I could describe it better but I don’t know the proper term. That said, it’s still a decent cup, and a nice change after all the flavored tea I’ve been drinking.
Preparation
I love this tea! I’ve never had goji berries before so this is a new flavor to me, and it’s amazing. The melon and apple flavors contribute a lot too. I drank this late last night, thinking that an herbal tea was a good choice to settle down with, but actually the bright flavor woke me right up. I’m moving this to the morning side of the cupboard. Other notes: despite being very strong during the first round, this doesn’t stand up to a second steeping.
Preparation
After reading some of the ingredients — black tea, green tea, rose & jasmine — I was expecting a pretty strong tasting tea. This is not the case. The flavor is pleasant but quite light. I do taste jasmine but just barely, and I sort of just smell the rose. Many other Steepsters have noted this as a peachy green tea, and I can definitely see why — it tastes more like fruit than anything else. I think I will try this again with extra tea leaves — I’ve found in the past that sometimes you have to do this with David’s to get the full flavor. I also want to try Alphakitty’s recommendation of drinking it iced, as soon it warms up a little here!
Preparation
I was given a sample of this, and while it’s a perfectly pleasant tea, I probably won’t be buying it. It’s a bit unimpressive after the other oolongs I’ve tried. I guess if I’m really in the mood for chocolate hazelnut, I’d rather have it in coffee or hot cocoa.
Preparation
I was a little worried about this one, as I tend not to like spiced teas, but I was also very curious to try such a traditional blend. So glad I took the chance! This tea is awesome. Mint is the dominant flavor — and it’s an excellent mint, very close in scent and flavor to the mint I find growing wild — with the spices nicely rounding it out rather than competing with it. I think fennel might be the spice I taste the most but there is also something I can’t quite identify. Maybe the cardamom. I’m not familiar enough with cardamom to be sure. The green tea is so light in this that to me it comes across more as an herbal tea; on the whole, it’s very soothing and refreshing, a great tea to unwind with.
