1113 Tasting Notes
WHOA! Thanks for the sample Stacy
This tea tastes like a chocolate donut dusted in powdered sugar! I had no idea an oxidized aged oolong could be this good! The scent of the liquor is amazingly strong cocoa. This is going on my shopping list :)
I was a gawky awkward 13 year old when this tea was picked. How special!
Preparation
Thanks Stacy for a sample of this one. It is really fun to get these samples, especially when they are not something I would have picked out for myself!
So I may have underleafed this one. I know Stacy usually sends exactly one serving in her little sample baggies, but it just really looked like more than 1 tsp to me so I used half. It took forever to steep it enough to get some good strong flavor going but I finally accomplished that. I will use the other half of my sample in my teeny 4oz gaiwan at some later point. Typically heavily oxidized oolongs are not my thing, but this has some impressive fruity and roasty cocoa noted like a fancy black tea might. Very complex and interesting! So glad I got to try it :)
Yum, sounds wonderful. And isn’t this the one that she was playing around with a caramel apple version? :D
I love this one, it’s already fruity and honey like, I’m pretty sure it will make the perfect base for a caramel apple tea :-)
I’ve been enjoying this sheng all afternoon. This is another one of my huge batch of TeaUrchin samples I got for my birthday :D
Lovely sweet and somewhat mellow. I’m digging the vibe and creamy mouthfeel. Flavor is bright and fresh with hints of floral.
Yay! A new breakfast blend from Butiki. The Black Lotus is one of my favorite black teas right now, so I’m quite excited to try this one.
As with the Black Lotus I think the darjeeling on top of all the darker richer notes really makes this blend pop. Definitely worth a try if you are a fan of bold blacks!
I got a sample of this tea from Teavivre as a prize in my sample packet during the Spring Tea Review Giveaway! Thanks TeaVivre!
Oddly enough, this one does not appear to be on TeaVivre’s website for sale yet! Sneak Preview? Count me in! :)
This is a sweet, bold, assertive young sheng. Some apricot notes. I believe this is the first puerh I have drunk that was produced this year! VERY young sheng! Also very strong cha qi. I am super energized :)
Love the lingering aftertaste. This one’s a keeper!
I got a sample of this from Marzipan who got it as a sample with a recent Harney order. She hates both green tea and coconut but I love them both! Lucky me!
This is actually pretty decent iced tea! I was very skeptical when the directions said to put the giant bag filled with green tea into boiling water for 15 minutes. But it worked! The green tea is not bitter and the coconut flavor is both pleasant and strong.
I would consider purchasing these some day if big bagged iced teas were my thing. Seems like lately I’ve just been making iced tea out of whatever is taking up room in my tea stash but not thrilling me hot, ya know? Anyway, decent stuff :)
I am drinking the Autumn 2013 harvest of this tea, which I believe came to me courtesy of boychik :) :) :)
I slightly underleafed this but I can tell it is a winner. Nice and sweet and malty with cocoa notes. Heck yeah! Next time I will use a lot more leaf. Big leafed teas are hard to measure and I need to get in the habit of weighing them.
This is really tasty. I think I’m going to be sad when my sample is gone, Marzipan!
Enjoying a lightly sweetened to-go cup while I work today :D
Seems like a lot of people like this one. How does this compare to Lemon French Macaroon? I imagine it to be a richer tea w/some added tartness.
They are pretty different, LFM is more bright and crisp, this one is sort of a mellow custardy lemon to me with a little “wang” to it.
Funny you use the word “wang” Marzipan.. Around here a wang is usually not a good thing. Usually means an “off” flavor.
