56 Tasting Notes
This has been my favourite Moroccan Mint blend for years. I’ve been trying to get into iced tea lately to make my daily water intake less of a chore (I aim for a gallon a day) so I started with this. In a 1 litre/1 quart mason jar I put 1 tea bag and filled it up with boiling water, then let it cool to room temp. before refrigerating overnight with the bag still in. It’s very light in flavour, but I prefer this way, and super refreshing! I enjoy it hot too! I have no complaints about this tea!
Got this as a sample. I’ve never had white tea before and apparently it’s popular so I was eager to try it! It smells and (faintly) tastes like fuzzy peaches! Very light, peachy, a bit floral. I like it but it’s pretty expensive and not something I would reach for in the morning/afternoon. It’s too high in caffeine for me to enjoy in the evening when I think I would like it most. So it may have to be a Frequent Steeper reward (if they offer this one!). And I just noticed that the rainbow tins are Buy 2, Get 1 Free again! After I just bought three two weeks ago! :’(
House sitting this weekend and they have an old Christmas collection from DT! Which includes this and Cocomint Cream!!! Ahhh!
Sweet apple, creamy/eggy vanilla custard. I under-leafed (they said I’m welcome to whatever but there’s only about 2 cups left) so the flavours are present but not strong just black. So I added a touch of milk and sugar to help things out. Really tasty!
Got another sample of this in my latest package. Still love it! Even though there’s no room in my tea drawer I will be getting 100g of this on my next order. I made some in my regular cup and steeped for about 3 minutes then popped the infuser in my big 20oz travel mug and let that steep while I sipped on the first cup. The resteep tasted just like the first! So I think (hope!!) this will be a cost effective tea.
Wow! Had my first taste of genmaicha this morning. Even after reading most of the tasting notes here I was still quite shocked by the taste. It tastes exactly like puffed wheat! And with the sea-weedy green tea it reminds me a lot of soup broth. Very strange, but I’m really enjoying it. The steeping instructions online at DT stated 1-2 PS for 16oz in HOT water while the tea packet stated 1.25 tsp at 86 degrees C for 2-3 minutes with no water volume given. I have a 14oz cup so I did just under 1 PS at 80 degrees for 2 minutes. For the resteep I added on 30 more seconds. Both came out very good, although the second cup wasn’t as wheaty as the first.
Note: I got 4 steeps in total! The wheat came back for the 3rd and 4th. It lost the soup-like qualities and got more sweet.
Preparation
Got this with my latest order. It smells great! It’s also very chunky and heavy. Made it hot using two PS for a 16oz mug. I didn’t steep it a full 5 minutes because I wanted to get two steeps out of it so it was a bit weak, but still good. It’s pretty accurate in terms of replicating the taste of a pina colada, although more in a perfumey way? And not in a negative sense! It’s a bit artificial tasting to me and the aftertaste (which I found stronger than the actual sip/swallow) of mango/pineapple and coconut travels up through the nose which is where it reminds me of perfume. I didn’t really care for the tea until the aftertaste because I finally got the full range of flavours! However, due to drinking it hot there was a pretty thick layer of oil on the top of my cup and the hibiscus was quite strong. I’ll definitely be having this hot again, but I can tell this would be so refreshing as an iced tea. I’ll try cold brewing overnight!
I love mint and I’ve been wanting to try matcha, so this seemed like a good way to try it out. When I opened the bag it smelled like iced tea powder? Unexpected, but ok. The matcha “powder” was more like granules, which was also unexpected. Prepared it as an iced latte by shaking 2oz warm water and matcha powder (two teaspoons) in a 1/2 pint mason jar for a minute, then I topped off the jar with milk and shook that for another 30 seconds. If I make it again this way I’ll use a full pint jar so I can get the milk really frothy. Poured it over ice in a 24oz cup and voila!
I actually ended up drinking a couple big gulps to make room for some more matcha as it was quite weak. Just added another heaping teaspoon and a splash of water in the jar, shook, and added that to the cup. It’s still really mild! I think the milk is just overpowering everything. I do get a nice cooling mint sensation at the end of the sip but I’m mostly tasting milk with a teeny tiny hint of grass. The grass taste might be making the milk taste extra cow-y in fact… not super pleasant. I bought 50g of this so I’ll have to try it with a non-dairy option and see if that helps. I have other teas I’d like to try with almond/coconut milks so it all works out. Overall, not bad but I think I can play around with it and make it more to my liking. I’m eyeing up Red Leaf Teas reviews… may have to try them as well!Note: as I got closer to the bottom and the latte was watered down more, the mint started to taste stronger! I’ll do 50/50 water to milk next time and see if this helps!
