90 Tasting Notes

I love drinking this in the morning, because it makes me feel like I’m being mischievous and indulging in a buttery pastry for breakfast. I don’t usually taste all the different notes in straight teas that others seem to, but this one is undeniable, in-your-face bakey goodness, with just a tiiiny pinch of spice. It’s amazing on its own, and I haven’t dared to add anything for fear of messing with a good thing.

Unfortunately I sipped down the last of it and it’s out of stock until the next harvest this summer, so the fond memories will have to hold me over until I can get my hands on some more!

drank Caramel Apple Oolong by 52teas

Some of my favorite childhood memories are of going to the annual fair, which always included eating a caramel apple and having it stick to my teeth and hands and not caring at all. So I was hoping to relive that experience (minus the mess!) through this tea, but instead it reminded me of apple jolly ranchers.

The first taste is of sweet apple, followed by a hint of caramel at the end of the sip. As my love for caramel is still as strong as ever, I find it too faint here. As an apple tea it’s quite tasty, but as a caramel tea it doesn’t quite hit the spot. But I’m so glad I got to try it; thanks TastyBrew!

This tea has multiple personalities. Today, brewed western style, it’s got an incredibly creamy mouthfeel and reminds me of a milk oolong. Last time I brewed it this way, it tasted minerally and sweet. I iced my leftover leaves, and the result was an earthy, roasty flavor. It’s so intriguing.

This tea reminds me of one of my good friends, who’s a true-to-form Gemini. I never know what I’m going to get when we hang out, but I don’t mind, because we always have a great time.

This is a tea I may stray from every so often, but I always go back and remember why I loved it in the first place.

It welcomes you back with love. No bitterness, no fuss; just smooth, sweet and wonderful.

A solid straight shooter.

drank Lemon Chiffon by Della Terra Teas

Sweet creamy lemony dessert goodness! Sadly it’s a sipdown. Thank you Kaylee for the sample to hold me over until I order this.

I couldn’t say goodbye right away so I threw the leftover leaves in a cold brew with some black tea leaves as an experiment; a desserty twist on lemon iced tea perhaps?

Ok I can’t believe I finished the mug in just a few minutes. I need to own this asap! But I’m trying to resist the urge to order because there are a zillion teas I want from Della Terra, and I need to sipdown some cupboard space so I can order them all at once and get to open the huge package like it’s Christmas.

drank Raspberry Truffle by Butiki Teas

Dessert tea for breakfast! Yup, it was one of those mornings.

The raspberry in this is perfect; not tart but not too sweet either. I’m not getting much chocolate but I am getting a nice rich creaminess. I’m curious to try this sweetened, or even iced (potentially the ultimate raspberry iced tea?) Of the fruity-chocolate teas I’ve tried, this one is the best and most natural tasting (but that’s not surprising, is it?)

Thanks TastyBrew for letting me try this!

I got this in my last order, now Im dying to try it. Is it morning yet?

Alysha

Haha! Hope you enjoy it. I’m saving the last of this for cold brewing but the weather is not cooperating yet!

Jasmine tea has grown on me, but I’m still wary of trying new ones for fear of that strong perfumey taste. If I hadn’t got this one as a sample with my order, I probably would never have tried it.

But I’m so glad I did, because it is the most perfectly balanced jasmine tea I’ve ever had. The jasmine doesn’t overpower; it shares the spotlight so you can actually taste the silver needles, and the sip is so silky and ends with a bit of sweetness. There’s also a crisp, fresh linen quality to it, which makes me feel like I’ve been transported into a plush robe sitting atop a luxurious bed in a fancy hotel (and in that case, it’s well worth the price, right?) I’ll definitely order this one (and I’ll have to hoard the rest of this sample for special occasions until then!)

I started this journey with affection for green tea and a mission to find a reliable go-to. I tried some tasty ones but wasn’t blown away by any, and soon the bold blacks and outspoken oolongs and flashy flavoreds won my attention away from the gentle greens. But then this tea made its entrance and everything changed.

It’s smooth and fresh and vegetal, but also incredibly creamy! I’ve never tasted a green tea this light yet rich at the same time. This is the seductive son of sencha and milk oolong, and I’m so enthralled in this buttery dance that nothing else exists right now and I can’t put my cup down.

If you enjoy greens then you must make a date with this one, and if you’ve only flirted with them hesitantly then this is the one that may just sweep you off your feet!

Gosh I love that tea so much! Its my favorite tea of all time. I can’t wait to try the spring harvest :D

Alysha

I’m so curious about how the spring harvest compares to this one. Hopefully it’s just as amazing, otherwise I’ll have to hoard the rest of this for special occasions!

Stephanie

Same here, all I have left of the autumn harvest is one sample pack and I’m SO hoarding it!

Today was a “I’m just gonna hit the snooze one more time” kind of morning. I still feel like a zombie so I’m trying this sample from Stacy.

Ironically this tastes like a relaxing nighttime herbal tea, which actually works cause you can stay in chill out mode while this gently massages you awake. The mint, guayusa and a trace of lavender are all floating together on a creamy vanilla cloud. This is my first try of guayusa, and based on this blend, I like its earthy, kind of “foresty” flavor.

If this successfully wakes me up, it’s going on my next order. It’s yet another delicious blend by Butiki.

I was hoping this would satisfy my craving for nutella on toast (or croissant, or waffle, or…anything. What doesn’t go with nutella?) The flavors were subtle; the chocolate and hazelnut were mildly there, but it was lacking that certain something.

Then I added milk and sugar, which smoothed it out and enhanced the flavors a bit, but still didn’t result in that “pow!” that I was hoping for. I guess it’s just not that kind of tea, and that’s ok; now that I know what it’s all about I can accept it for what it is. And it was a nice cup. Thank you to whatshesaid for the sample!

Glad you could enjoy it!

Tealizzy

That’s what happened to me, but I just recently upgraded my chocolate hazelnut spread to something more natural, and I think this tea is closer to that. :)

Shmiracles

Tealizzy! what spread do you buy or make now?! i want i want!

Tealizzy

I just got it this week and it’s so much less sugary, and more hazelnutty. It actually has a nutty texture too. It’s Justin’s chocolate hazelnut butter blend. I got it at whole foods, and it’s more expensive than Nutella, but I got it on sale. ;)

Bio

I recently discovered loose leaf after a long and uninspiring relationship with teabags. I’ve been in love ever since (sorry bags, I just don’t feel that spark anymore).

Food is a passion for me and my love of scents and flavors has translated into an excitement for trying new teas. I’m trying to expand my palate with all different types, and currently my favorites are oolongs and greens.
