1501 Tasting Notes
Grabbed this while I was in Montreal six months ago, and never opened it, just sent it home. Silly me! Now that I am back, it was on the top of my pile to try.
Sadly, I messed it up. 130 degrees and an oversteep, plus a tea kettle that had water sitting in it for who knows how long. I won’t rate it, no way this is doing it justice.
Grabbed this in a bio store (organic) in Brussels, and have had it a few times. Can’t oversteep it or it gets really weird, and it’s surprisingly sweet even unsweetened (licorice? Anise?). It’s not amazing, but solid for bagged tea.
Flavors: Cinnamon, Licorice, Nutmeg, Sweet
I’m retarded and put this tasting note in the wrong place.
Hm. Still not sure about this one. Cleaned the kettle again, made this tea right away, and it still smelled delicious – this time like raspberry cocoa. Drinking it though just isn’t as lovely as I want it to be. Maybe it’s the tooth stuff I’m fighting (very old root canal that seems to get infected easily, however I’m allergic to most antibiotics, so I’m downing a tremendous amount of raw garlic and oregano oil). Just had a sip cold, and it’s quite lovely – other than the scum on the cup (normal for severe hard water, I know, still icky).
Flavors: Cocoa, Raspberry
Preparation
Hm. Okay. This is better than the Tropical I had the other day, although it’s very artificial, pow-in-your-face kinda tea. I don’t mind it, it’s cheap (2-3 euros/20), but it also left slime on my teacup — although that could well be the severe hard water issues I have here.
Flavors: Artificial, Mango, Mineral, Peach
Preparation
Gr. Lost the tasting note.
With one sip this is pure raspberry chocolate mousse, the next caramel, and the next a roasty, toasty cocoa. I’m confused, yet really liking it . Must try when I don’t have severe hard water issues like I do here in Brussels.
Bought in the Paris Fauchon store, looseleaf, for about half the price of a tin. Woot!
Flavors: Caramel, Cocoa, Raspberry, Roasted, Thick
Preparation
This is such a strange tea, I really can’t quite make whether I like it or not. Grapefruit, kind of, but perfumey (not soapy like the other day). Tart citrus as well. I much prefer Tarte Citron (lemon tart) to this one, or the Peach Mango, which I need to review still.
Flavors: Citrus, Grapefruit, Perfume, Tart
Preparation
In-store this smelled amazing, and I struggled to choose between this and Paris Breakfast (which smelled equally vanilla-y, with perhaps some sort of caramel). There’s a woody, almost paper-like taste to this, as well as a rich softness. The vanilla is divine, hard to describe, not as punchy as I’d like it, but really smooth and elegant. I do like this, a lot.
Grabbed at a chocolate shop in the heart of Brussels, March 16, 2015.
Flavors: Smooth, Vanilla, Wood
Preparation
You must go to Wittamer in Brussels if you haven’t already done so. Their chocolates are amazing! I miss Belgium…
I hate saying this, but I was told most folks here don’t buy chocolates unless they’re a gift for a tourist. They’re so expensive! Most just get them at the grocery store. The quality and selection are still staggering. So while I might go see a chocolate shop, I’ll rarely buy anything. I’m pretty sure I found The Chocolate Street and The Italian Fashion Street yesterday. Lol
Well, that’s generally true of most places. I mean, in China people just buy tea at the grocery store because the selection and quality are good, but that doesn’t mean that I don’t go to the tea street when I’m there. It’s more the sheer variety and unusual flavors that you just don’t find at a grocery store (and we did go to the grocery store too!). We got some amazing marzipan/chocolate/caramel confections there that I’ve never seen anything like before.
I really, really like this, however I’m having a hard time describing it. It smells like a hot, tart grapefruit and tastes more like a sour orange, or sweet grapefruit, or a bunch of citrus with a hint of floral that I just can’t place. It’s more robust than say a juice… I’m really perplexed and need to review the ingredient list. Regardless, it’s refreshing and I can easily drink this often.
Flavors: Citrus, Grapefruit, Orange, Sweet, Tart
