128 Tasting Notes
Water: 8oz
Leaves: large tea block
Steep: 3m
Aroma: Earthy
Color: dark reddish brown
Taste: This time i came across cake from of pu-erh, i tore off a piece hoping it wouldn’t be too much for a 8oz cup. With a rinse done i was ready to brew 3m for starters. This brew was bland with no bitterness at first then upon cooling i noticed a slight bitterness that faded in and out as i sipped on my cup. Not much of an after taste left but it had a bit of a cooling sensation at the back of my throat.Overall i don’t quite know how i feel about this particular pu-erh.
Preparation
Water: 8oz
Leaves: medium w/ tangerine pieces
Steep: 6m
Aroma: Sweet/Earthy
Color: reddish brown
Taste: Due to my previous brewing i decided to let this cup go for 6 minutes instead of the longer steep of 8m. what surprised me was the large pieces of the tangerine peel that was in the sample packet i received. The aroma of the dry leaf was sweet & earthy while on the other hand the brewed cup had a bit of a burnt/earthy smell to it. The color was lighter in comparison to the previous pu-erh & i could see the bottom of my tea cup. I should also mention before brewing i also gave this tea a bit of a rinse. As for the taste i really didn’t get much of anything in terms of flavor.
Preparation
Water: 8oz
Leaves: mesh tea bag
Steep: 9m
Aroma: Earthy
Color: deep brown/black
Taste: I don’t have much experience when it comes to Pu-erh teas, this was something new to have it in tea bag from. I also have quite a few other teas like this one that i will be getting threw in preparation for new spring teas. I was surprised by this tea during the brewing process b/c of how dark the color is like black coffee. As for clarity I couldn’t see the bottom of my cup, but when scooped up with a spoon I noticed a reddish-brown clear tone tea. Overall I found this tea to be bland & bitter
Preparation
Water: 8oz
Leaves: medium leaves + rose buds & chamomile
Steep: 1m,2m,3m
Aroma: floral
Color: Pale yellow
Taste: I got my first tea ball the other day b/c i was running out of Finum tea bags. I decided to go with this tea for today since i wanted something different, the aroma was lovely with a hit of roses as the main note with slight a chamomile note. As for the taste I had a little bit of difficulty when measuring due to the large rose buds I went with 1 table spoon & added it to my tea ball. The first steep was for 1 minute and produced a clear tea with light flavor w/ the same great aroma. As for the tea ball only a few tea particles escaped! The second steep was also great no bitterness very smooth. I found the last steep to have less flavor then the first two but overall this tea is great & works wonderfully when using a tea ball.
Preparation
Water: 8oz
Leaves: medium leaves/ Triangle tea bag
Steep: 3m,4m
Aroma: Spice
Color: Golden brown
Taste: Feeling a bit under the weather i decided to go with something really quick & simple for today. Going with a tea bag, but this bag was different from all the others I have had in the past, i found it cool how it had no string. therefor i could just toss it in my mug & be good to go! The bag was a very fine mesh like material with plenty of space for tea to float around. When brewing not only could you see the black tea leaves but also flecks of green. The aroma of various spices filled my cup as i brew for 3~4 minutes a slightly lighter shade than other back tea I’ve had in the past, with great clarity no cloudiness at all as I’ve experienced with other traditional tea bags. When drinking i found this to have a nice smoothness with a light spice flavor.
*Update: This tea stopped my runny nose! I was even able to brew 16oz for 8m and it was still good! I say 4 steeps max for now. I’m surprised i was able to fall asleep normally due to the tea having high caffeine amount.
Preparation
Water: 8oz
Leaves: long thin, dark green w/ fuzzy
Steep: 4m,5m
Aroma: Floral
Color: pale yellow
Taste: I received this as a part of CuriousTea complementary tea box. This evening i was in the mood for something light so i decided to go with this tea. The aroma was floral not too strong. One thing i found interesting about this tea is that is it required 4 minutes to steep for it to be a white tea. I boiled water then let it cool for 7m before adding it to the leaves, hopping that wouldn’t be too cool for the steeping time. The first cup had no bitterness & light in flavor. The second steep i lowered the water cooling time to 6m and up the brewing to 5m. The result was same flavor profile just slightly warmer tea. Overall i found this to be a nice light tea.
Preparation
Water: 8oz
Leaves: medium dark green leaves
Steep: 1m, 2m,3m
Aroma: Vegetable
Color: Light yellow
Taste: I received this as a part of CuriousTea complementary tea box. This was my first ever experience with a tea box subscription company & wow i was amazed at the size of the package i received. The aroma of the dry leaf was nice & vegetable like. I also must note I normally use 1 tsp per 8oz cup this one call for 2 tsp which is something new in terms of brewing. The clarity of the first steep was nice, clear with no cloudiness & light in flavor. Second steep gave almost the same result but with a darker color. Third steep same color & flavor. Overall I found this to be an okay cup of tea, it feels good to write a review after quite some time after getting things done.
Preparation
Water: 8oz
Leaves: medium green
Steep: 3m
Aroma: Sweet, Vegetable
Color: Pale almost clear
Taste: A cup of tea before bed paired after eating a ruby red grapefruit . Dragon well was one of the first teas i had in my early tea blogging start. I’m excited to be reviewing a different variation of this tea. A wonderful cup nice & light! Great if you don’t want anything heavy at night.
Preparation
Water: 8oz
Leaves: Tiny rolled leaves
Steep: 1m,2m,3m
Aroma: Sweet Vegetable
Color: Deep golden yellow
Taste: The aroma of this tea was great! I haven’t had loose green tea in quite some time, I need to practice at getting the water temperature correct. This time I decided to go with 5 steeps to see how this tea would last. As for steeping I’ll update this as I go. 1m I didn’t get much of a aroma from the cup of tea it self as i did the leaved. The taste was light with a hint of bitterness that later subsided, i think this was due to the water being too hot. 2m I let my water cool this time for a minute longer than the first, It was the same shade of golden yellow but lacking in any flavor the, 3rd steep revealed the same flavor profile. I stopped here short of my original 5 steeps planned b/c i felt it wouldn’t make a difference. Overall i found this tea to be quite plain.
Preparation
Water: 8oz
Leaves: Tea Bag
Steep: 6m
Aroma: Vanilla Spice
Color: Deep orange/brown
Taste: Due to my previous Chai taste test I wanted to try out another sample. On the package it stated to brew this for 4-6 minutes. I went with the later at 6m I wanted to see what this tea had at full strength thus a stronger brew. The aroma was a nice vanilla spice. As for the color it was deeper than the previous Chai this is probably due to the longer steep time. One thing I found rather interesting was the clarity of the tea I found this cup to be quite cloudy. As for the taste despite brewing for a long time this was very bland like plain drinking water, no spice flavor or anything else for that matter.
