1758 Tasting Notes
When I opened this tea today I didn’t realize I already had an open one somewhere and had already reviewed it. Well I still think it is a nice shou. It starts of with a fair amount of fermentation flavor and maybe even some chocolate notes in the mix. It was sweet, not bitter from the beginning. It evolved into an even sweeter tea. Towards the end of ten steeps it evolved into a fruity profile. Can’t really say a specific fruit. It was quite good for an inexpensive puerh.
I brewed this ten times in a 220ml teapot with 17.6g leaf and boiling water. I gave it a 10 second rinse. I steeped it for 5 sec, 5 sec, 7 sec, 10 sec, 15 sec, 20 sec, 25 sec, 30 sec, 45 sec, and 1 minute.
Flavors: Earth, Fruity, Sweet
Preparation
This is a malty and bold tasting Assam tea. There is little if any bitterness or astringency. It is pretty good. Not as good as Vahdam’s Darjeeling First Flush teas but tasty.
I brewed this one time in a 16oz Teavana Glass Perfect Tea Maker/Gravity Steeper with 3 tsp leaf and 190 degree water for 3 minutes.
Flavors: Malt
Preparation
This tea is a mix of good and bad. There were no unpleasant flavors and certainly no wet storage flavors. You could say the dominant flavor was a sweet note. However it was weak and not truly flavorful in nature. Who knows if this will improve and the sweet note get stronger. I do like this better than other Liu Baos I have tasted which have a heavy wet storage note.
I brewed this eight times in a 110ml teapot with 6.2g leaf and boiling water. I gave it a 10 second rinse. I steeped it for 5 sec, 5 sec, 7 sec, 10 sec, 15 sec, 20 sec, 25 sec, and 30 sec.
Preparation
This is a nice ripe that was bittersweet at the start with the bitter being stronger than the sweet. There was a fair amount of fermentation flavor to it that lasted four or five steeps. The fermentation flavor was a little unpleasant but not fishy. This tea gradually turned into a nice sweet ripe puerh. In the end it developed a distinct fruity note although I am not sure if I could pin it down to a specific fruit. This was a highly enjoyable puerh tea.
I steeped this twelve times in a 150ml teapot with 13.7g leaf and boiling water. I gave it a 10 second rinse. I steeped it for 5 sec, 5 sec, 7 sec, 10 sec, 15 sec, 20 sec, 25 sec, 30 sec, 45 sec, 1 min, 1.5 min, and 2 minutes. I would say there were two to three steeps left to the tea. But twelve was enough.
Flavors: Earth, Fruity, Sweet
Preparation
This was overall a nice tea. I only bought a sample but it might be worth buying a cake of. There were some notes of leather and tobacco that were gone by around the fourth steep. It was replaced by a note I would call a sweet note but very different from the sweet note of a young sheng. I am not sure how to describe it. I did in the end like this cake.
I steeped this tea eight times in a 75ml teapot with 5.2g leaf and boiling water. I gave it a 10 second rinse. I steeped it for 5 sec, 5 sec, 7 sec, 10 sec, 15 sec, 20 sec, 25 sec, and 30 seconds.
Flavors: Leather, Sweet, Tobacco
Preparation
This was overall a very nice brick with a moderate amount of fermentation flavor and sweet notes throughout all ten steepings. The fermentation lasted about five steepings. There was no unpleasant note or fishy note to it. I was not really paying close attention to the notes so I couldn’t say that there were chocolate notes in there but maybe. The sweet note in the end I think could be described as fruity although I can’t get specific.
I brewed this ten times in a 160ml silver teapot with 13.9g leaf and boiling water. I gave it a 10 second rinse. I steeped it for 5 sec, 5 sec, 7 sec, 10 sec, 15 sec, 20 sec, 25 sec, 30 sec, 45 sec, and 1 minute.
Flavors: Earth, Sweet
Preparation
This tea was good in the end but had a poor start. There was an initial sour note to this tea. Perhaps a factor of too dry storage at Puerhshop but that is only a guess as to the origin of the sour note. The tea did improve as I resteeped it. The sour note lasted perhaps three steepings. BY the eighth steep it had a very nice sweet note. I had just had somuch tea this morning I didn’t feel like continuing. If you don’t mind the initial sour note it is a good tea.
I steeped this eight times in a 75ml teapot with 5g leaf and boiling water. I gave it a 10 second rinse. I steeped it for 5 sec, 5 sec, 7 sec, 10 sec, 15 sec, 20 sec, 25 sec, and 30 sec.
Preparation
I do not know if the unpleasant note I get from this tea is from the fermentation or if it was wet stored. It tastes much like a wet storage note. A taste of either wet wood or perhaps bamboo. Maybe this one will improve with a couple of years of dry storage.
I steeped this eight times in a 75ml teapot with 5g leaf and boiling water. I gave it a 10 second rinse. I steeped it for 5 sec, 5 sec, 7 sec, 10 sec, 15 sec, 20 sec, 25 sec, and 30 sec.
Preparation
This was a nice ripe with some pleasant flavors. It had a fair amount of fermentation taste left. Not really sure if it had chocolate notes because I had some dark chocolate while drinking this. Towards the end I did find a fruity note although I can’t be specific. This was a nice tea and the price was right.
I steeped this twelve times in a 160ml Silver teapot with 13.6g leaf and boiling water. I gave it a 10 second rinse. I steeped it for 5 sec, 5 sec, 7 sec, 10 sec, 15 sec, 20 sec, 25 sec, 30 sec, 45 sec, 1 min, 1.5 min, and 2 minutes.
Preparation
Today I drank the June offering from the White2Tea club. It was a mixture of old tree and very old tree sheng according to White2Tea. It was picked in April from a Mengsong Mountain old arbor garden. This is all information that I have to trust the seller on because there is no way to check on it. That being said this was a nice tea. There was little if any bitterness to it. It was the sort of young sheng made to drink now as opposed to one to age. It had a a sweet note from the beginning. At some points you might even call them apricots and stonefruits. However the finish tasted just a little flat to me. Sweet yes but not as much flavor as you would expect.
I steeped this twelve times in a 85ml Silver Teapot with 5.6g leaves and boiling water. I gave it a 10 second rinse. I steeped it for 5 sec, 5 sec, 7 sec, 10 sec, 15 sec, 20 sec, 25 sec, 30 sec, 45 sec, 1 min, 1.5 mini, and 2 minutes.
