Drinking this for the first time in a while. It is still one of the best young ripe teas I have had. Some fermentation taste to it but this is a very smooth tea. It was clearly properly fermented. I like this one a lot.

I steeped this twelve times in an 85ml Solid Silver teapot with 7g leaf and boiling water. I gave it a 10 second rinse. I steeped it for 5 sec, 5 sec, 7 sec, 10 sec, 15 sec, 20 sec, 25 sec, 30 sec, 45 sec, 1 min, 1.5 min, and 2 minutes.

Got this yesterday. It is pretty nice. It has a malty note and I would say a chocolate note. Can’t say that it is better or worse than last year’s tea.

I brewed this one time in a Teavana Glass Perfect Tea Maker/Gravity Steeper with 3 tsp leaf and 200 degree water for 3 minutes.

Flavors: Chocolate, Malt

Preparation
200 °F / 93 °C 3 min, 0 sec 3 tsp 16 OZ / 473 ML

This tea was one I did not like that much. It was sour in the initial note and astringent for the first four steeps. It wasn’t actually terrible it is just that the initial notes were unpleasant and I only steeped this eight times because it was already late in the day for me to have caffeine.

I steeped this eight times in a 75ml teapot with 5.9g leaf and boiling water. I gave it a 10 second rinse. I steeped it for 5 sec, 5 sec, 7 sec, 10 sec, 15 sec, 20 sec, 25 sec, and 30 sec.

Preparation
Boiling 5 g 3 OZ / 75 ML

This has likely hit that one year mark where it is starting to ferment. Last year it was lovely. Must be time to stash it away for some years.

This is a fairly nice tea. Got it with the Chawangshop group buy. Got them a while ago but am really just getting to them now. This one started with a bit of a sour note but I didn’t notice it in the second infusion. It was slightly bitter and slightly sweet. A nice raw to drink now because it did not have an abiding bitterness that some sheng has. In the end I am not sure if it was sweet enough to say apricots and stonefruits but a nice sweet note was there.

I steeped this ten times in a 75ml teapot with 6.1g leaf and boiling water. I gave it a 10 second rinse. I steeped it for 5 sec, 5 sec, 7 sec, 10 sec, 15 sec, 20 sec, 25 sec, 30 sec, 45 sec, and 1 minute.

Preparation
Boiling 6 g 3 OZ / 75 ML

drank 2016 Forest Bridge by Global Tea Hut

Bought a one ounce sample of this when I went to Puerh Brooklyn for some Global Tea Hut events. They were not selling whole cakes or I would have bought one. This tea was very good but falls short of phenomenal. It had a sweet taste from the beginning with only a light bitterness that did not last too long. I am not sure if I think this tea is good enough to spend the $108 they ask for it online at www.gLobalteahut.org. I probably have to drinkn it again before I decide that. I did give this tea steepings and I did like it, I just do not know if it is worth that much money for what I believe is a 200g cake. If it were a full sized cake for the price I would be more likely to buy it.

I steeped this ten times in a 75ml teapot with 5.6g leaf and boiling water. I gave it a 10 second rinse. I steeped it for 5 sec, 5 sec, 7 sec, 10 sec, 15 sec, 20 sec, 25 sec, 30 sec, 45 sec, and 1 minute. I could have gone a few more steeps and perhaps will later on today.

Boiling 5 g 3 OZ / 75 ML

This is a very nice aged shou with a little fermentation taste left to it but not much. There was a weak wet storage note that lasted a few steeps. There was a sweet note from the beginning that seemed like a dates note to me. This was quite a good tea.

I brewed this ten times in a 160ml silver teapot with 12.2g leaf and boiling water. I gave it a 10 second rinse. I steeped it for 5 sec, 5 sec, 7 sec, 10 sec, 15 sec, 20 sec, 25 sec, 30 sec, 45 sec, and 1 min.

Flavors: Dates, Earth, Sweet

Preparation
Boiling 12 g 5 OZ / 160 ML

Thank you for the sample of this tea. It was quite a nice sheng. It had a fairly sweet note at the start with very little bitterness. Only brewed it eight times because I need to go out and replace my phone because the camera died on it. Just didn’t have time to keep going or I would have brewed it at least twelve steeps. I think I would use the words apricots and stonefruits to describe the sweet notes in the later steeps. It was very good.

I brewed this eight times in a 150ml gaiwan with 8g leaf and boiling water. I gave it an 10 second rinse. I steeped it for 5 sec, 5 sec, 7 sec, 10 sec, 15 sec, 20 sec, 25 sec, and 30 sec.

This is a very good ripe that Puerh Brooklyn doesn’t yet list on their website. It was quite expensive. For the price I paid I was expecting phenomenal. This tea was really, really good but I will have to drink it again before I decide it was phenomenal. There was a fair amount of fermentation taste to the early steeps, not unpleasant or fishy. There were some notes of dark chocolate in there too. As I resteeped this tea over and over again, eventually steeping it 16 times it got sweeter and sweeter, developing a fruity note. I really can’t pin it down to a specific fruit but it did improve dramatically. I gave it more than my customary twelve steeps because it was so expensive. Even after 16 steeps I think I could have gotten another 2 steeps out of the leaves. It had gotten weaker by the 16th steep but not so weak that the leaves were dead. Overall this was a very, very good tea.

I steeped this tea sixteen times in a 160ml solid silver teapot with 12.2g leaf and boiling water. I gave it a 10 second rinse. I steeped it for 5 sec, 5 sec, 7 sec, 10 sec, 15 sec, 20 sec, 25 sec, 30 sec, 45 sec, 1 min, 1.5 min, 2 min, 2.5 min, 3 min, 3.5 min, and 4 minutes.

drank Random Steepings by Various Artists

The tea I drank was called Enlightenment and was phenomenal. This is a tea I wish I could get more of. I did not prepare this tea. It was prepared for me by WuDe of Global Tea Hut fame. He doesn’t consider himself a tea master but I disagree. He prepared this tea for about 23 of us in attendance. It was not a ripe puerh according to WuDe but tasted a bit like a ripe puerh but the earthy flavor of it was very pleasant and not at all dirty like a poorly made shou. I actually had three teas prepared by the man but this was the best. The first two were in a course on the art of Cha Dao. The tea enlightenment was prepared for the evening tea ceremony. He prepared the tea in what I would say was a 1 liter kyusu style teapot and then put the first steeping into a big glass teapot used as a cha hai. Then he made a second steeping and added it. After this he gave it to a woman who went around the room serving us small bowls of tea, a little more than in a standard gongfu style teacup. If I rated teas on this one it would rate at least a 101. It was quite possibly the best tea I had ever had. One of the earlier teas in the earlier session on Cha Dao he said was from 1000 year old trees. Now WuDe is someone I could see actually having the connections to get some of this. These teas were simply brewed in our bowls again and again and again. All this was an incredible experience to say the least. I wish I could go back tomorrow for more but I have to work.

Finally starting on my Chawangshop group buy sheng. This one was good. There was just a little bitterness but not much. I persisted for maybe six steeps. There was a fair amount of astringency to this on. It quickly developed a sweet note although I do not think I would use the word apricot, it wasn’t quite that sweet. This one was good and is one I would consider picking up the next time I order from Chawangshop.

I steeped this twelve times in a 150ml gaiwan with 7.4g leaf and boiling water. I gave it a 10 second rinse. I steeped it for 5 sec, 5 sec, 7 sec, 10 sec, 15 sec, 20 sec, 25 sec, 30 sec, 45 sec, 1 min, 1.5 min, and 2 minutes.

I am Allan. I live and work in Long Island, New York. I have been amassing a tea collection for nearly two years and have spent way too much money. I now try to buy mostly Puerh as I like it most and it lasts nearly forever. Black tea has a habit of going bad. If anyone is interested in tea swaps I am open to ideas and have quite a cupboard.
